It's Cyber Monday and there are loads of deals still active today. We have the chance to earn
20 Amex points per dollar or 20% cash back, whichever you prefer, at a load of your favorite
stores. We have a last call for a bonus on a certain credit card that ends in just a few days.
We have discounts on redeeming city points for some gift cards and we now know the quarter one
categories for the Discover It card. Buckle up, it's going to be a fast-paced, information-packed
video. Hey, credit warriors, welcome to the show. My name is Ben Hedges, aka The Credit Shoo-Foo,
and on this channel, I cover the US credit card market and most importantly, how you can use
credit cards to earn points and rewards to use for free travel or for cash back to buy stuff
that you want. If you like the sound of that, please subscribe. And this video is brought to
you by Max Rewards, but more on that later. All right. So first, let's talk about how to earn
20 Amex points per dollar. This is on the shopping portal Rakuten. Now, I know we've
talked about this in previous videos over the last few days, all right, over the holiday shopping
period, but I think it is worth it to talk about one more time because Cyber Monday is kind of like
their last hurrah of the whole shopping period deals and maximum cash back and Amex points.
Okay. So this site, what they do is they do marketing for various stores and they share
their commissions with you in the form of cash back or Amex points, whatever you choose. You
just have to click through their site to go to the website of the store that you want to shop at.
Now, today, this rate today is the highest cash back slash Amex points rate that they have offered
over the entire holiday shopping period. And I think it's going to finish tomorrow. In fact,
I know it's going to finish tomorrow because you can see there is a little countdown on the site
showing 16 hours left. As of the time when I recorded this video this morning, when you're
watching this, it's probably even less or I know it's even less. Now, while the 20% cash back slash
20 Amex points per dollar stores are perhaps not the most popular stores, there might still be some
that you'd want to shop at, but you can actually still get 15% cash back at some of the old
favorites. Bloomingdale's, you got Saks where you can combine it with the Amex Saks credit. You got
Dell where you can combine it with the business platinum Dell credit. So anyway, last chance to
get sky high cash back slash Amex points rates. If you want to do some Cyber Monday shopping,
I'll put the link below. You can get extra $40 bonus if you sign up to Rakuten through my link.
But if you have a friend who uses Rakuten, help them out. Don't help me help your friends since
they also get a bonus if they refer you and you still got that $40 bonus deal. But if you don't
know anyone who uses it, my link is below. All right, let's now talk about the last chance for
the incredible bonus on a certain credit card. And that would be the Amazon Prime Visa signature
card. You get $200 Amazon gift card when you sign up. That's it. No spend requirement. No waiting
for it. Just sign up. And as long as you get an instant approval, bam, $200 in your Amazon account
to use on Cyber Monday shopping today on Amazon. And there is still loads of stuff on Amazon
discounted for Cyber Monday with 50 percent off Amazon basics. You can save 25 cents per gallon
on fuel. And there's some other stuff that's 40 percent off. Some of the deals you do actually
have to have the Amazon Prime Visa signature card for two. And at normal times, that card gives you
five percent back on everything on Amazon. It does require Prime membership, which is one hundred
and thirty nine dollars a year. So if you already have Prime, it's a no annual fee card for you.
If you don't have Prime already, then you'd want to weigh up whether it's going to be worth it for
you since you'd need to get Prime as part of the application process. Prime does give you
free shipping on most items on Amazon and some special deals so you can weigh it up for yourself.
Now, this offer ends on December 5th at 6 p.m. Eastern time. So if you do want it,
be quick. And obviously, to take advantage of Cyber Monday offers, you'd want to get it today.
And hopefully you get an instant approval. I'll put a link to this card in the description down
below if you want to learn more. All right. Let's now move on to discounted gift cards with city
points and then we'll get into the discover it categories for quarter one of twenty twenty five.
But first, if you're looking to get value out of your credit cards, the sponsor of today's video
can help you do just that. Max Rewards is the credit card management software used by credit
card pros. It links to all your banks and displays the info such as balances, transactions, rewards,
balances, et cetera, all in one place. So no more opening up multiple apps to check on credit card
balances or see when your payment is due. Now, the pro version of Max Rewards has an additional
feature of activating all of your Amex offers for you. So you never miss a deal. And I have
even used Amex offers without realizing it several times. First time was when I bought my cat from
PetSmart. I got ten dollars off. And when you activate all of your Amex offers, new ones you
never knew existed appear in your account. And Max Rewards activates them to saving you even more
money. So check out Max Rewards with my link below. You can get a seven day free trial of the
pro version. And if you choose to continue after that, you get a three month discount on the annual
is below. All right. Let's now look at some discounts on gift cards using city points.
As soon as I mentioned gift cards, all the manufactured spend people's ears prick up.
But this isn't for prepaid debit cards, I'm afraid. However, there are still some really
good deals. It's up to 20 percent off when you redeem city points for gift cards from these
stores. I think the most exciting one may be Apple, which is 20 percent off. So you can get a
two hundred and fifty dollar gift card for twenty thousand points instead of twenty five
thousand. Now, real credit card points purists will still say that this isn't the best use of
your points compared to booking business class flights and getting an average of two cents per
point. But what if you don't want to go anywhere? All right. Have you thought of that? And maybe
you've got loads of points stored up. So it's really up to you. Do what you feel you personally
get value out of. Just in my opinion, do not go below one cent per point. Then you're getting
really bad value. Then there is another city offer right now, and that is 20 percent back on
Amazon. Oh, Amazon again. This is a city offer that comes and goes. All right. And it seems that
right now it is back. Some dude named Gerald left a data point on the doctor of credit post for this
deal. Here's what he says. I got 20 percent off up to five dollars on my custom cash. Then someone
points out that that's just a twenty five dollar purchase, which, yeah, OK, it really isn't that
big of a saving. But if you combine it with a Cyber Monday discount, that's going to be another
five dollars off something that's already discounted. And then lastly, Gerald gives us
the end date, which is December 31st. I don't have any city credit cards, so I can't show you this
offer. But if you do have a city card, it may be worth looking for it. All right. Let's now talk
about the discover it categories for quarter one of twenty twenty five. Discover used to release
its calendar of categories at the beginning of the year for the whole year. But now they've
followed Chase and they release them on the first of the month before the quarter starts. Actually,
with Chase, it's on the 15th of the month before the quarter starts. So discover has to be first,
I guess. They do it on the first. Chase does it on the 15th. And if you don't know,
these are the bonus categories for five percent cashback on the discover it cashback card. You
can earn five percent on one thousand five hundred dollars worth of spending for the quarter. All
right. The categories for quarter one of twenty twenty five are restaurants, home improvement
stores and select streaming services. Now, I would say because I see restaurants there,
that's a solid set of categories. Home improvement is a little weird. We normally get that in the
spring. OK, I think Chase would do it in the spring. Who does home improvement or building
work over the winter? OK, not that many people. Maybe you could buy materials in preparation for
spring. OK, perhaps that makes sense. And then we have streaming. That's perhaps going to be
only like one hundred dollars a month or so. So not a big spend category either. But yeah,
five percent on restaurants is always good. And to be honest, for myself, I think I could probably
max it out over three months just from my restaurant spending alone. All right, guys,
that is the video for today. Do check out all of the deals and stuff mentioned. They'll be in the
description and in a pin comment below. And don't forget to get a seven day free trial and then a
three month discount if you choose to continue on Max Rewards Gold. That will be the first link
in the description. Do subscribe to the channel if you're new. We'll see you next time. Bye bye.
