Zeus, the supreme lord of Olympus, had married the goddess Hera.
She was extremely jealous of the love Zeus had for his favorite daughter, the goddess
Athena.
More than anything else, Hera wanted to have a strong, beautiful, and powerful son, capable
of one day replacing his father, fulfilling an ancient prophecy.
The queen of heaven's wish was partially fulfilled when she gave birth to the beautiful child
named Ares.
The little god grew up.
His strength increased day by day.
But from an early age, it was also possible to spot signs of anger and brutality.
As an adult, he received beautiful armor and a golden helmet.
He was the perfect model of a warrior.
Now Ares was the god of war.
His desire for conflict and blood horrified the other gods.
Because of his violent and uncontrollable nature, there were gods who feared him.
For this reason, he was disliked by most of the deities.
During battles between men, he marveled at the carnage.
Out of habit, he did not support one side because it was more righteous, honorable,
or courageous.
He preferred the more violent and brutal ones.
But he usually helped those who paid him homage and honor.
Once, Zeus said,
To me, he is the most loathsome of the Olympian gods for he loves only discord, war, and fighting.
Zeus hated him, even saying that Ares would have been expelled from Olympus if he had
not been Hera's son.
However, Ares also had divine followers.
Among them was Eris, the goddess of discord.
She, with her nefarious powers, created endless disagreements and disputes among men.
The goddess had her children with her, Lemos, the god of hunger, Algaea, the goddess of
pain, Paunos, the god of fatigue, and Leif, the goddess of forgetfulness.
The latter made men forget the presence of the gods after fighting.
After the passage of Ares and his retinue, the Keres appeared, deities of violent deaths.
They drank the blood of the dead on the battlefield and dragged those who deserved it directly
to Tartarus.
Athena, the goddess of strategic warfare, was the only one who opposed the bloodthirsty
god head on.
She defeated him several times.
However, not even Athena was able to stop the god's bloodlust.
Only one goddess appeased Ares' violent heart.
Her name was Aphrodite, goddess of love.
