Hey there, April of Yes and X here with my mom, Aiko.
Hi.
Today we have a short walking workout
that you can do after dinner or after any meal.
Now, the benefits of walking after dinner
include lowering your blood sugar levels,
improving your digestion, burning calories,
help you manage your weight, can even help you sleep better,
and boost those feel-good hormones like endorphins
so you feel energized, which is awesome.
All right, so we'll be doing four exercises
in 30-second rounds, and we'll be doing that whole set twice.
OK.
All right?
My mom is going to be doing this one seated.
I'll be doing it standing.
Make sure you have some water available and clear the area.
Yeah.
All right, any thoughts, Mom?
No, let's go.
We've got to burn some calories.
Oh, yes, after that full meal.
OK, thank you.
We'll take a quick pause here and get started.
All right, Mom, you want to have a seat?
Sure, thank you.
OK, have a seat.
Let's warm it up.
March it out, everybody.
OK, on this nice, short, little after-dinner walk,
I'm feeling full.
Yeah, getting rid of those calories, burn it off.
Oh, definitely.
All right, give me some toe taps forward.
Yes.
Keep it going.
Breathe, everybody.
Yes, and even two to five minutes of movement
after dinner or a meal can have great benefits.
So good for you for hanging with us today, all right?
It's good.
Great job.
OK, march it out.
Good work.
OK, next I want you to just give me some nice little step out.
Step it out.
Good.
Anything with the arms here.
Whoo, breathe.
Nice and slow.
Go slow.
Good job.
And you could do this after any meal, right?
Very well, yes.
You can do it after any meal, during the day.
If you have two hot dogs, you work it out.
Especially if you have two hot dogs.
My goodness.
I think you should do it after one hot dog.
OK, all right.
March it out.
OK, here's a move I want you to do.
I want you to tap it forward and then tap it back.
Tap it forward.
Tap it back.
Good.
Tap forward.
You're going to see this move, so I just
want you to get ready for it, OK?
That's a good idea.
Yeah.
Tap forward, tap it back.
Good.
And very nice.
Breathe.
March it out.
OK.
Let's give that upper body some love.
Give me just some up and down with the arms, OK?
Good.
And two.
Good.
Give me one more.
And three.
And good job.
All right, nice work on this warm up.
Take a quick pause and get started with our walk.
All right, so our first move is going to be a one, two, three,
step and back, right?
So I'm going to do grapevine.
So it's one, two, three, and back.
My mom's going to one, two, three, and step it back, right?
One, two, three, step it back.
And we're on right now.
And back.
So one, two, three, step it back.
Step it back.
Good.
That's it.
And back.
I'm going to turn it into grapevine.
And go ahead.
One, two, three, good.
It's always good to show off a little bit.
Good, keep it going.
And good.
Keep it going.
Looking good.
Breathe it out.
Keep it going.
So one, two, three, step.
Yes, good.
One, two, three, and step.
Good, march it out.
OK, good.
This is our walking.
Yeah, this is when you get your steps, right?
Get your steps.
Well, we're getting our steps in doing all the exercises.
We really get it in when we're marching it out here, OK?
Now, remember we did that touch forward, touch back.
Step forward and back.
That is the next move.
And we're going to be on in three, two, and one.
We're on now.
Step forward and step back.
Forward and back.
Yeah, forward and back.
Good.
Forward and back.
Just one leg.
Yeah.
So it looks like this, right?
Weight shifting.
Coordination here.
That's right.
My brain is still sleeping.
Oh, you're doing great.
It's that meal.
Yeah.
Did you have a turkey meal with tryptophan
that made you sleepy?
Uh-oh.
And very nice.
Good, and march it out.
Good job.
That's coming up.
So maybe this is good practice.
That's right.
OK, march it out, everybody.
Good work.
Looking good.
Get these steps in.
You're burning some calories.
You're lowering your blood sugar.
It's all, all good.
All right, next move is basically out, out, out,
and in, and we're on.
Out, out, out, and in, OK?
Out, out, out, and in.
Good.
Out, out, and in.
And that toe can point to the side.
Out, out, out, and slow, and in.
Out, out, out, good.
That's what I like to see.
Tempo.
And breathe.
And if you need to go slower than us, it's OK.
Go at your own pace.
That's right.
And breathe, and march it out.
Good work, everybody.
That's really nice.
I just want to give you some different kind of walking
moves to make it interesting.
Yeah?
All right.
OK, breathe it out.
Good work.
Now, great job.
Keep walking.
Keep walking, all right?
Breathe, breathe, breathe.
OK, next move is basically stepping it out and arms up,
and we're on, OK?
Go slow, please.
Yeah, yeah.
I want palms up, palms up.
With the step up, you pull it up, Ma.
Pull it up, pull it up.
Step it out, pull up, up, up, and up.
OK, OK, you're doing it the opposite way.
It's OK.
Wait a minute, I'm trying to catch up with you.
Up, and up, march it out.
OK, good work.
We have the next round.
OK, so that's actually right.
All about practice makes perfect.
OK, so we're here for a minute of rest,
so take a sip of water.
Good job.
Gotta get your steps in.
That's right.
You can keep on getting your steps in, Ma.
I love what I'm seeing here.
That's excellent.
Pack your feet.
Yeah.
Oh, wow.
Those are truly, you're really getting your endorphins going,
huh?
That's right.
You can take a rest, breathe, water.
And it's very important to just keep moving, you know?
It's recommended that you try to do some movement as soon
as you can after you're eating, because your blood sugar
spikes within 60 to 90 minutes.
So any time you can get moving is great.
OK, we're going back to that one, two, three, step back.
OK, in about 10 seconds.
So hang tight, everybody.
Just relax here.
Breathe.
And we're going to do that one, two, three, and step it back.
We're on right now.
OK?
So it's one, two, three, step it back.
One, two, three, step it back.
And I'll do the little grapevine.
Good, one, two, three, step it back.
Good, one, two, and three.
Good.
Keep it going.
Looking good.
Yep, you can do what my mom's doing.
One, two, three, step it back.
Or you can go with me here with this grapevine.
Breathe in, out.
Last time you're going to see it.
And breathe.
Good job.
OK, excellent work.
Really burning calories.
I'm feeling energized after that meal.
It's always good to get moving.
All right, we're going to switch feet.
Remember we did that step forward, step back thing?
OK, so breathe it out.
OK, so it looks like this.
So step it forward and back.
Forward and back.
We're on right now.
Good.
So step forward and back.
Forward and back.
Good.
And breathe slowly.
Good job.
Excellent work.
Forward and back.
Keep it going.
See how fast this goes?
Yeah.
It really goes quick.
Keep it going.
30 seconds now.
I'm getting used to it.
Right, well, you're burning calories.
You're getting steps in.
It's great.
OK, march it out.
Good work, everyone.
All right, nice job.
Nice job, nice job.
Remember, we're doing that same leg.
We're going to start out on the left side here.
We're going step out, step out, step out, step in.
Step out, step out, step out, and in.
So we're on.
Hold on.
In.
3, 2, and 1.
So step out, step out, step out, and in.
Out, out, out, and in.
Slowly.
Good job.
Good.
This is actually working balance, too, and coordination.
Yeah, oh, definitely, yeah.
Well, I'm in a chair, so.
Well, the thing is, you can get a really good workout
even just seated, you know?
Now, if I fall, if I lose my balance from a chair,
that's pretty bad, you know?
Well, you're doing really good.
Thank you.
You're doing very good.
I'm very proud of you.
OK, march it out.
You're done.
March it out, march it out, march it out.
OK, believe it or not, we're heading into our last round.
Good job.
Can you believe this?
Yep.
All right.
Now, you remember what it is?
Yeah, the one I had trouble with.
OK, right.
Let's just practice that.
Step it out.
And when you step it out, the arms go up and up.
That's it.
OK, we're on right now.
Go out, go slowly.
There you go.
That's it.
See, there you go.
That's it.
Yeah, I don't think about it.
You're doing it.
I don't think about it.
I'm fine.
That's it.
Breathe.
OK, this is our last round, everyone.
So great job on just burning calories.
You're lowering your blood sugar.
We're hoping that you are feeling good.
You should feel good that you moved right after dinner.
Excellent.
OK, keep it going.
And march it out.
Nice work.
Good job.
I hope that you feel like a little bit lighter
on your feet here.
My mom is getting more steps in.
You definitely feel energized, huh?
Yeah.
I'm so proud of you.
I'm ready for another hot dog.
That's so great.
All right, very good.
OK, let's just cool it down.
Give me some nice side steps.
OK, good.
Good work.
All right, nice work.
Just give me some nice little arms up and down.
That's it.
Up and down.
Good job.
OK, give me some shoulder rolls back.
Nice work.
Excellent work.
