In todays Mexico travel vlog we are exploring the Pueblo Magico Tapijulapa Tabasco Mexico! Located 2 hours south of Villahermosa Tabasco, Tapijulapa could be Tabasco Mexico’s BEST kept secret a true Mexican Paradise!
Tapijulapa Tabasco is a small pueblo known for its white washed walls and red tiled roofs. It’s set amongst the Sierras of Tabasco on the banks of two rivers in a beautiful jungle setting. Near the town lies Villa Luz, and ecological park known for its cascades, caves, and unique colored water!
Since Tapijulapa is off the beaten path, we couldn’t find much information about it, i.e. we have no plan - but hope to find a guide to take us around and show us the area! Come along with us as we figure it all out with you and have A LOT of fun along the way!
We definitely recommend visiting Tabasco Mexico just to go to the Pueblo Magico Tapijulapa Tabasco and witness the beautiful waterfalls at Villa Luz.

Hola! Bienvenidos! Welcome to beautiful Tapijulapa!
Buenos dias! Good morning Country Collectors boy do we have the adventure planned for today.
Well, sort of! Yeah, all we're really positive about is that we are going to
Tapijulapa, that's a fun one to say!
Tapijulapa, Tapijulapa, Tapijulapa!
It is a Pueblo Magico here in the state of Tabasco.
So we have no idea what we're gonna
do when we get there, how we're gonna get there,
and most importantly what we're gonna eat when we get there!
Before we get started make sure to hit that subscribe button
and ring the bell so you don't miss out on any of our future adventures!
Let's go!
We've been trying to do some research for this place but there just isn't a lot of information
and yesterday we went to rent a car
and they didn't have any! Then we went to the ADO bus station - and they don't go there.
Yeah so now we are heading to the colectivo stand to see how we can get there.
We are on the streets of Villahermosa right now, this is the capital of Tabasco.
Tapijulapa is one of those places that locals just keep mentioning to us.
Yeah there is supposed to be a beautiful river, waterfalls, whitewashed houses
with red tiled roofs and they're supposed to have some unique local dishes. You know who's excited!
Me me me! i
It looks like we have found the spot!
It's right by the ADO bus station and they told us that we have to go to Tacotalpa first
and then change into another colectivo from there so we're just gonna
go wait over here.
Alright our taxi has arrived and it is 80 pesos per person or four dollars.
Alright let's go! And look at that protection!
We've only driven like 10 minutes outside of the city and
you can already see the vegetation changing. It's like a jungle! Seriously!
So we just got out of that colectivo. Colectivos can be any sort of shared
transportation. Pickup trucks, vans taxis. Yeah so I think here it's called a combi.
Which is going to be a van that takes us to Tapijulapa. So let's go find it!
Tapijulapa?
yeah okay!
It took about 30 minutes from Tacotalpa.
We have just arrived and he is now taking us to the center of town.
It costs 20 pesos each for the ride, one dollar and I can't wait to see what's in store!
So we just stepped off the combi and there was a local guide there Moises who greeted us.
He gave us all this great information.
He told us he would take us to a gruta (a cave)
we can go to Villa Luz, (the cascades the waterfalls) yeah and also take us up to the top
of the pueblo so we can get a bird's eye view.
Now we're going to go get some snacks and water
because they don't have anything like that once you're inside the ecological park.
So make sure to let us know if you want us to grab you anything!
Alright come with us!
Oh, you went in the Salida!
Adam never follows directions. I'm not a direction follower people!
There you go! Entrada!
Need some beans?
All snacked up let's start this adventure!
Alright we are starting our day here with Moises!
Here in Tapijulapa they are known for their wicker weaving
and they are masters of it! You have to check this out!
This is some beautiful stuff. This chair right here he just said takes five days to make.
Look how intricate this stuff is.
Man I need one of these today. It is mucho calor!
When you come here definitely check these artisans out. Alright let's keep going!
Now we are heading up to get a bird's eye view of the pueblo!
Adam's out of breath already!
We are just five minutes into this tour and it is already super beautiful!
We're up top here at the cathedral looking down over
this beautiful pueblo and I can see why it is a Pueblo Magico!
These kids are so excited with the drone. I mean seeing your home from above maybe
for the first time has to be really something special!
So now we are heading down to the river and then going to head to Villa Luz, the waterfalls.
So he was saying this beautiful lane here is where girls come down and take photos for their quinceanera!
Wow these are sweet I doubt they're rated for me though.
Look at that!
This is where the two rivers merge and you can see the emerald green of the first one
and the brown one. This is incredible!
It's a wonderful place to come if you want to escape
the city a bit and get back into nature.
It's absolutely stunning. Alright let's keep going!
While you're walking around the plaza keep those eyes open because there are some delicious
looking restaurants. We'll have to come back later.
Tapijulapa translates to "land of broken pitchers."
When the women would go down to the river and bring these jugs like this up on their heads
they would slip so much and break the pitchers that they named the town after it.
It's a little loud but behind me here is a tortilleria.
This is where they make the tortillas, check it out!
These things are hot! Yeah they're piping hot! But I'm gonna eat it anyway!
Oh man, wow that is so good!
And while it's really hot in my hand, it's just right in my mouth!
Gracias!
And now we are heading over a suspension bridge.
Man the suspension is killing me!
I feel like I'm in Indiana Jones and I'm gonna go through them. Please don't!
I haven't gotten to eat yet. I am too young to die.
Oh my gosh, Adam!
It's not me it's Moises!
Hola!
He wasn't phased at all. I'm like hitting the fence and he's just like he does this every day!
You know Adam's all about rocking the boat!
That's right. Rock the boat, rock the bridge, I'll rock anything you need me to!
He rocks my world! Aww babe!
Who's the cheese master now?
This is so beautiful here. You can see the river that runs down from Chiapas.
Well this town is full of surprises! Alright let's keep going!
If you're having fun make sure to hit that thumbs up. We appreciate you!
We hopped in the tuk-tuk and they brought us up here to the Tapijulapa sign to get some
photos how sweet is that?
Make sure you watch your head when you're getting in the tuk-tuk!
Not positive where we're going right now but we are out of town a little bit
so either the cascades or the caves looking forward to it! Stick with us.
We've arrived!
We just got that tuk -tuk here from town it was 60 pesos or three dollars.
We are now walking back towards Villa Luz, the waterfall and it looks beautiful!
And right over here you can see Villa Luz.
I could see why somebody would fall for this place!
There's the waterfalls right there. We're about to get a lot closer!
I feel like I'm in Jurassic Park or something.
We're about to walk up these steps into the jungle.
They look so cool, come along with us!
And make sure to keep those peepers peeping people.
There are animals like wild pigs and spider monkeys you might be able to spot while you're out here.
You better not be talking about me!
Whoa looks like a little farm here!
Along the way here he is pointing out all these different fruits
and vegetables that they grow in this region.
There's a farm right here. We've seen maize, cacao they're typical bananas,
guayabaya, frijoles! It's very interesting we're having a lot of fun if you can't tell!
I was getting worried these steps here I don't know if you can see it on film but they are
really steep! Luckily right before we got here he said, "this way!"
Adam's hero!
That might be my new favorite word in Spanish. Sombra. Shade! Yeah!
Gotta be careful where you step!
We're so glad that you're here with us, enjoying this with us for the first time!
It wouldn't be as much fun without you.
Hormigas trabajadoras.
Oh yeah! Look at these ants here.
These red ants, leaf cutting ants! They're working ants!
Oh I hear the waterfalls!
Look at the size of this Ceiba tree.
It is sacred to the Mayans and I can understand why!
500 years old it's the biggest tree in the entire forest here. Wow!
And make sure to bring bug spray the mosquitoes are wild!
We are now heading down to go look at the waterfalls!
WOW!
Welcome to Villa Luz!
After you're done admiring the falls you can swim in these pools here. How cool!
What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments.
For me this is magic. I love being out in nature.
One thing though. I don't like walking around in wet clothing.
So I'm not gonna go swimming.
But when you come here you can definitely go!
If that wasn't enough there's more!
He brought us down here so we could check out the waterfall going into the river!
How gorgeous is this?
Adam's going to fly his drone again and there is no shade here except for this little tree
and Moises said get under here get some shade!
He brought me some water! Oh what a guide and what a guy!
We still have to go to those caves and we're gonna walk there now so come with us!
Like Adam just said it's the prettiest town you've never heard of!
And we hadn't until about a week ago.
I was like we have to go there.
It's off the beaten track but you're gonna be blessed with sights
like that where there's nobody else there. It's so worth it!
What's that sound? It's the sounds of the jungle.
And check out this unique blue milky color of the water.
It comes from the sulfur that's present here.
The best part is it doesn't smell at all! Check it out. It's beautiful very mysterious.
Check out this termite mound. He just told us it's SUPER GRANDE!
Yeah it's very big! It is very big it's probably the biggest one I've ever seen.
That's what he said!
And when you're getting your snacks and water in the morning
make sure to grab a little something for your guide it's always really nice and they appreciate it.
One of the best things about this tour is Moises.
He's speaking in Spanish - obviously. But we're actually understanding a lot and it's great practice for us.
So I'm enjoying it. He's really teaching us some fun words like calor and sudor, it's hot and I'm sweaty!
Check this out!
So this is bamboo Chino or Chinese bamboo.
Each one of these is the perfect length for a flute they dry it out and drill holes in it and boom you got some
(Adam pretending to play the air flute)
I am so glad that we got a guide because we would be so lost!
At least I would be so lost. Yeah!
There have been a few signs but this place is huge!
We are about to go into this cave that national geographic and the discovery
channel has done documentaries on.
This is the only one in the world that is like this.
wow this is incredible!
You can see that milky colored water down there from the sulfur
and I wish you could smell it down here. Muy fuerte!
The sulfur is very strong.
He's trying to catch a fish!
This is also called the cueva de sardinas.
They have these sardines down here that are blind.
Sardinas Ciegas. (Blind Sardines)
That was so cool. The sardines are actually blind because almost no light gets in this cave
at any time of the day year round.
What an incredible unique place to come and visit.
So glad you joined us.
It's very interesting and that smell is actually getting to me.
I'm starting to get a headache so I'm gonna head up and out of here.
But stick with us! We have so much more fun planned for today.
Wow this tour was fantastic! We are just finishing it now.
We have to walk back for a little while but I think it's been like four hours we've been out here.
We definitely recommend it and we will leave Moises's phone number
down in the description below so if you are coming here you can always call him.
And don't be rude! Whatever you bring in take out.
Carry in, carry out. So he doesn't have to pick up your garbage!
Now I really have no idea where we're going! (laughter)
You have to watch out for the poop! There are cow patties in the path.
One of Adam's many secret talents is being able to
MOOOOOOOOOOO!
Very well and you got the attention of some of these guys!
Oh, I got some heads popping up!
Whenever I see a gate like this in the middle of nowhere I'm like am I about to walk into
narnia or some other parallel universe?
He just disappears!
Nope still here.
Too bad!
Heyyyyy!
Just kidding!
It's really nice on the way back we are walking along the river here.
It's so beautiful. I'm glad we switched it up from the way that we came.
Check it out!
Adam's pretty quiet back there I haven't heard a peep!
He's either very thirsty or very hungry.
Can I be both? I'm both!
Oh! Sorry to bother you!
And there's the bridge back into town! Yes!
Someone is excited!
And we are going for a beer. I think we all deserve that!
We haven't even had our beer yet and I feel un poco baracho!
A little bit drunk!
Woo hoo! We made it to the beer store!
Yes please! (laughter)
Salud!
To a wonderful day!
I honestly don't think a beer has ever tasted so good! It's true! Victorious!
And just like that we have made it back to the center.
Now we gotta go find this man some comida!
Come along!
What do you think?
I think this is great and we have saved you a seat!
And look at the mini fan.
It's got some power though! Don't judge it by its size!
We are here at Restaurante Mariquita.
It's right on the river and they're supposed to have the best typical food from this region.
She is bringing over our drinks right now. Oh my gosh!
Both of our drinks came in Jicara, which are these. They almost look like coconuts but
they're definitely not coconuts.
Heidi got cacao flavored and I got a horchata.
They're actually kind of frothy. Yeah!
I think mine's called abena de cacao and Adam's is the horchata!
I mean I can't even choose they're both so delicious.
And I love hey look they kind of look like my head!
Bald and beautiful!
Aw babe!
Ooooo she just brought us this pishule.
And here is the second dish it's called mone.
This is basically just some pork and vegetables that are steamed inside this herba santa which
are steamed inside of a banana leaf.
And then this beautiful mess right here
is a tortilla that has beans, pork, avocado, onion
everything on top. And this is a specialty of the house here.
I just want to call it a Mexican pizza because it comes with a pizza cutter!
Let's jump into this!
How is it?
It is so good. The tortilla is crispy the avocado gives it such a nice texture.
The texture of the pork it's a little bit salty and the cheese on top it's perfection!
Good?
Look at that meat it just falls right apart!
Mmm it's a winner! But I'm definitely gonna still make it into a taco. Of course!
Wow!
Super tender?
The pork is so tender. The plantain gives a little bit of sweet and the spice just kicks it up a notch!
That meal was good! Man it was so good.
The view was great the service was wonderful.
We paid 380 pesos which is just a little under $20 for all that delicious comida.
Yeah and today
the adventure was fantastic. It lasted five hours!
It was supposed to be two and a half.
Yeah so actually at the beginning of the day
he said the price was 580 pesos and then when we finished he said 830 pesos.
But I think something was lost in translation this morning
and it was 580 for him to go to Villa Luz
and then 250 for the tour of the town.
I'm not quite sure but
like he said it was going to be two and a half hours, but we had him for five.
So we're both very happy to pay $20 for that tour each.
Absolutely it was totally worth every penny of it.
He was so kind, he showed us so many different things and it was way more than I expected!
Absolutely. So yeah we hope you had a wonderful time here with us today!
