hola buenos dias good morning from
puerto escondido
[Music]
oaxaca
so what do you do in puerto escondido
you go to the beach
that's exactly what we're going to do
today we're heading to playa
bacocho
we haven't been there yet so this is
gonna be a day of
exploration i can't wait to get to the
playa
let's go everybody just getting set up
for the morning
we're walking down the main strip in
town there's a bunch of great little
cafes and restaurants here
this is the road we're gonna take all
the way to those beaches and unlike
oaxaca city that is super dry
it is humid as hell here yeah i like to
call this the heat heat
yeah the hot heat the make sure you get
out early in the morning it's the best
time to go exploring
so if that sign was correct back there
we have 2.2 kilometers to walk which is
about
1.2 miles 1.2 miles 1.21 so we got
snacks in some cafe for the road
yeah here's our first view of the beach
i believe that's playa corral down there
this right here says access to the beach
is in 200 meters
this way i don't think this is the way
we've heard to get to playa coral you
have to go
via pachacho so that's the way we're
gonna go
unless you brought your mountain
climbing equipment i'm guessing this is
not
the way to go someone did tell us that
you can come to la carl beach house and
if you purchase a couple drinks you can
gain beach access here so
we'll have to try that out a different
day right up ahead here we see some blue
signs
so hopefully that is a sign to go to the
beach
yay this is it bienvenidos a la playa
pacocho oh wow look at this liberacion
de tortugas a la
cinco p.m i guess at 5 00 p.m they let
the turtles go
looks like a pretty steep walk down to
the beach i'm excited to see what it
looks like
i hope you are too
[Music]
the anticipation is killing me but we're
almost there
looks like it's right around this corner
wow
[Music]
i wonder what that is in front of us
let's go find out welcome to sea turtle
camp
together we recover the ocean that's so
cool
wow how often do you come places where
they
are actively trying to save the sea
turtles this is so great
so that sign that we saw that said they
released turtles at 5 p.m
this is what they were talking about
adam went to school for marine biology
so this is his jam
plus we're avid scuba divers heidi's a
professional scuba diver too how are you
i am too so this is something that we
really enjoy we have to come back at 5pm
to
see the turtle release so i wonder why
nobody is here
do you think it's because there's no
shade it's a little
further away from the center of town
maybe it's because of the waves
it's a little more dangerous to swim i
don't know
as a general rule of thumb whenever you
come to a gorgeous beach
with incredible water and no one
swimming always
check first there could be lots of
reasons it could be a riptide it could
be
strong currents there might be sharks
you don't know always check with the
lifeguard or ask the locals that you see
on the beach
all right let's go ask the lifeguard if
he said it is safe right now uh i think
that the waves here can be big sometimes
so
always check he said if we swim right in
front of the lifeguard stand it should
be fine it'll keep an eye on us
nice to know on inu i don't know if i'm
going in
i'm going in let's get these pesky shoes
off
whoo i love that feeling when you take
off those socks
yeah time to go swimming
oh yeah baby
all right the waves got a little smaller
so we're gonna head in
we're going swimming we're going
swimming
but we're swimming at the beach in playa
escondido
puerto escandido playa pacocho
holy crap
so i only went in for two waves i saw a
big one coming
and got the hell out of there look
adam's still in there
he's more brave than i am
exhilarating
[Music]
sand angel baby whoa we wholeheartedly
recommend this beach it is
stunning a great place to come for a
walk i bet sunset
is unbelievable but if you're going to
swim
make sure your experience guys safety is
always first the ocean
is beautiful and can also be really
scary so make sure that you know what
you're doing before you get in
and always take precautions we're
swimming right in front of the lifeguard
stand just in case
and we're also making sure we're not
going out in the big waves and we live
by the ocean and in the ocean pretty
much year-round
and this freaked me out so didn't freak
me out oh yeah you're so
cool and so brave and cute don't forget
cute she always forgets cute
right now we are heading to playa coral
and i believe it is this
small beach right here the lifeguard
said it was 500 meters
down the beach here to the left
welcome to playa coral
i need the snack again there's a lot of
walking yeah we made it well you can see
my freckles really came out
i feel like i look super dude
make sure you put on sunscreen this
beach is so beautiful
and what i really love about it is that
it's more accessible for swimming
compared to
playa bucco so we were just talking to
this really nice canadian guy over here
who stays at this hotel
if you remember on the way in we showed
you there was that like really steep
drop-off next to that hotel for 70 pesos
you can
get beach access for the day that 70
pesos also buys you two beers or a
couple of beverages
and you can come in and out instead of
having to walk all the way down to where
we did and then coming down the beach to
get to here so it's a much easier option
if you have a little extra cash to spend
or you just want a couple of drinks at
the beach another
great aspect of playa coral is that
there is
shade here so the other beach has no
shade and down here there are palm trees
and
a couple of big trees there's a guy
behind us who just set up a hammock you
can see between me and heidi
and casper the friendly ghost is pumped
up about shade oh man it's so nice
spear fisherman's on his way out let's
see what he's got
look at that pulpo
gracias e que ese
look at that
he breaks open the shells with a big
rock
separates out the shells he gets the
meat right there
oh he's going to shock this baby
snacker got a hook to pull the octopus
out
it's got a crowbar to get those
shellfish off the bottom the tools and
the catch
that guy was so nice he just let me
basically watch him break down his whole
fish catch
he explained everything to me how much
he gets for it what kind of work it
takes to get these things
muchas gracias
que es esto estonos oysters oysters
perfecto wow i mean
i love mexico even more now hey what do
we got
well it's so good so fresh
at home we put lemon on it and the
lime's just a little different it's like
it's mexican i love it
where in the world can you be sitting on
this little beach there's only like
seven people around us
and this guy comes up to us with fresh
oysters
i know where mexico
it's so cool i mean these probably just
came out of the ocean like there's still
little critters on little critters on
them so
probably the french switches we've ever
had we know why it's called playa
corralmo
because there is coral everywhere it
seems like it's all dead coral
unfortunately but
basically wherever you step when you're
first getting in you're on
a piece of coral or a big rug run in and
dive head first
the first beach we went to today totally
fine it's all sand
waves down here every
couple of feet you have a piece of coral
so definitely be careful
and look at this setup the local guys
they just came down here
they got they brought their hammocks
some 40s
they were thirsty they went down here to
these palm trees they climbed the palm
trees
chopped the coconuts down and then came
back and broke them open and had some
drinks
it's very cool you know it just shows
you that you don't need a lot to have a
good time like back at home we have
all this beach equipment you know that
we put up we have
grills sand baths canopies
i mean all these games and these guys
they set up a couple hammocks and
brought a couple 40s one football and
they're just living life
the simple life is the good life we
found this sweet
tidal pool on the way back we love tide
pools they're like
little estuaries for all the little fish
and the little animals help right here
right here all these different animals
cool yeah coral lichens
nudibranchs there's a bunch of
urchins merchants snails
mud skippers i love the ocean especially
when i can share it with other people
so
[Music]
these are little echinoderms they have
these gorgeous hard shells on them with
the spikes
they have these thousands of little
suction cups on the bottom that's how
they hold on the rocks now they hold on
to my hand
oh he's moving got a little educational
lesson here for you
oh man they're so cool so we stayed on
the beach
all day it's 4 p.m at 5 p.m
you know what's happening liberacion
we're gonna go back to where we started
at playa
pacocho and we're gonna see what this
whole
turtle liberation is about i don't know
what it's about but i want to liberate
some baby turtles don't you
yes i do let's go
we're back at the sea turtle camp where
together we recover the ocean
right now we're going to recover some
shade turtles
this way there's all the turtles in
there
so we just gotta wait until five pm um
until i guess the the guards come and
tell us what we're gonna do
did you know that sea turtles are philip
patrick animals which means that they
return to the beef that they were born
on
every year to lay eggs on our planet
there used to be over
60 species of turtles but now there's
only eight left
that's kind of sad some of the reasons
that this is happening
is climate change destruction of their
habitats
pollution fishing sometimes locals
eat or sell the eggs and domestic
animals like dogs and cats will get onto
the beaches
dig up the nests and eat them it's
important to remember that you should
never touch
baby sea turtles directly because their
adaption and development
cycle is altered by that so that really
reduces their chance of survival
we're going down to release our turtles
right now we get to name them
i don't know i have to meet him first i
can't just give him a name maybe a girl
too who knows
enjoy it all right bro cause you gotta
go with your wife or
girlfriend oh man look at you you little
angel
oh my goodness this is the cutest little
guy
look at our little turtles together oh
my goodness
i'm gonna name mine josh i'm gonna name
mine winston
you look like a winston to me look at
these little angels
i hope you have the best life i hope you
grow up big and strong
oh my gosh let's go
all right my little friends be free
oh yes there you go
be free
[Music]
let's protect each other stick together
you can do it go josh go winston
oh guys i know it you're so close oh
winston here it comes this is your first
taste yes oh go and be free
explore that big blue ocean come on it's
so close
[Applause]
oh oh you got a taste you got to taste
now you know
here it comes this next one's gonna take
you i promise
yes yeah you're under yes come on guys
winston you're gone baby oh there he
goes
josh this is it baby back to the ocean
this is it oh
there you go buddy
that was so cool winston and josh of
course the time
that was beautiful our little turtles
are now off into the sea again
back where they belong that's gorgeous
thank you so much for sharing this with
us it was really emotional and we're
both really feeling it right now that
was just
so special i can't even begin to tell
you
we had a wonderful day what
i mean what an incredible day that was
that was just we just released
baby sea turtles into the wild that was
just a cherry on top
what was your favorite peach that's a
tough one i think i really liked
playa coral it was it was nice to have
shade
and you know it was just all locals down
there but
boccaccia bacocho
lo siento bakocho was also
really nice and we got to release those
sea turtles so
it's kind of hard not to just love the
beach for the turtles
alone i really enjoyed the tide pool
oh man i forgot about that's like
halfway so i guess i'm halfway in
between liking both of them
a lot yeah we are so happy to be back at
the beach here
in puerto escondido this place is just
like really relaxing
really cool vibes and there are a
handful of beaches in the area we have
yet to explore
and we're going to of course so stay
tuned for those
if you like beaches and turtles give us
a big thumbs up
make sure to leave us a comment too let
us know what you think about
josh and winston's journey back to the
sea
they were so cute i hope they're like
holding flippers they're
definitely holding flippers as they
drift off into the sunset
yeah and make sure to subscribe and ring
that bell so you don't miss out
on any of our next adventures we'll see
you
next time turtle power
[Music]
