After receiving a bummed motorcycle from the rental company in the Dominican Republic, I was off to find another which by the way wasn't an easy task. Finally I scored one just before sundown and the next day I was off, aimless roaming around the dirt roads and of course in search for amazing natural sites. One in which I only found through the help of a local man who decided to lead me, take me by his home, feed me bananas, and ultimately show me a very secret spot waterfall cave with crystal clear turquoise waters... another amazing day of motorcycle exploration
I contacted the rental place and told them that, of course, the bike is all messed up
and I asked them to switch it.
Since yesterday I've been asking that,
and they said they were going to deliver me a new bike
to where I'm staying in Cabarette.
Hola.
Eres del...
Del motor.
Pero dónde está la moto?
Él no te dice.
No.
Llámalo y habla con él.
Hello, lady.
We apologize for being too late with you today
because we are very busy today.
We apologize.
Listen.
We don't have it.
Well, I'm pretty disappointed with my rental company,
Xtreme Moto in Sosua,
here in Dominican.
Cannot recommend them.
They kind of, like, pulled a fast one on me, basically.
But so it is.
So now I'm going to look for another bike to rent for a different day.
So far, no good.
Just looking to rent this one,
and they won't rent it for one day.
But I'm still looking for more motorcycles.
We'll see.
A lot of them are really junky, like the one I had,
and no mirrors.
And after driving with no mirrors,
in the crazy traffic,
it's honestly, when you're going for a long ride,
I don't recommend it.
There's one I found, but it's also not starting in the shop.
Okay, I think I'm taking this one.
I will pay.
Seems to be, honestly, it's like a little bit of a disaster renting a motorcycle,
and all the motorcycles seem to be a little bit of a disaster,
but hopefully this one doesn't give me as much trouble.
All right.
Here we are.
Which one is my bike?
This one.
The big one out of the bunch.
The 250.
So today I'm just thinking about going to some caves around here,
do a little off-roading,
and, yeah, is this my bike?
I think so.
Let's see if it starts.
All righty.
Here we go.
So there's some caves just outside Cabarette.
We'll go check those out first.
And then I think I can do some off-roading up there
and really kind of explore and see,
go down some random roads and that kind of thing.
This bike definitely feels better than the other bike.
The other bike's suspension was really bad.
The brakes on this bike, however, are kind of non-existent,
so I got to be careful there.
This mirror doesn't work, but at least this one stays,
so I have at least one mirror.
The last time I had no mirrors.
I think it's got to be here.
Yep, that looks like a sign.
Cueves de Cabarette.
Ah, bueno. Okay.
Voy solo con la moto por poquito tiempo y tal vez regresar.
Gracias.
Yeah, so I think I'd rather just kind of explore on the motorcycle.
There's another waterfall, which I think you don't need a guide.
Yeah, let me see if I can find some small roads to explore.
Now it's starting to get a little more pretty
as we get away from the busy parts.
Sign there that said Gecko Piscina Rio.
That could be something to explore.
Gecko Piscina. Let's see what it is.
It's a cute little road.
Here we go.
Perfect little fun road to explore.
Okay, cool.
So it's like kind of a place for families,
so they have dorms over here and apartments to rent.
Are you guys coming?
Yeah?
You're going to come to the river?
Okay, so I'm just going to take a little walk to see the river.
Oh, that hut looks nice.
They've got kind of a balcony that looks probably out,
and they can probably see the river from there.
Here's the river, and look, there's cows over there coming to get a drink.
This is really cute.
Wow, the river water here is just so clear.
It's so pretty.
Okay, well, back to the bike, I think.
Look at that.
I have not seen one on my own.
So, you know, if you open this, what's inside looks like a sponge,
and you can eat it.
It's like a bread.
Bye, cutie pie.
Bye, cutie.
Look at this horsey.
Love him.
I think this guy is also carrying something,
a big canister maybe for water.
Here it is again, a horse with two canisters on either side.
I'm going to guess it's water.
I guess it would be water.
Ooh, this is a pretty road.
Pretty.
Another horsey with canisters.
Okay, here's where it turns into a dirt road,
and I think it might be too far for me to go, but let me go for a bit.
Oh, here's a cute doggie.
Cute puzzle.
Let's check the map.
Yeah, I think I might continue.
Okay, yeah, I'm going to continue on this dirt road.
I thought I wasn't going to do it because it would take too long, but…
Hola.
Now we seem to be climbing up in elevation.
This is going to get really gnarly.
Put this there with the little baby.
Hola.
¿La calle es muy feo arriba?
Así mismo.
¿Y muy inclino?
Sí.
¿Muy inclino?
Sí.
Esa subida y otra.
Okay, voy.
Con Dios, alato.
Gracias, gracias.
Okay, here we go.
No, it's not so bad.
I've done worse.
Not bad at all.
Okay, that was nothing.
It just looked really bad.
Hola.
Oh, my God.
My favorite thing, a cow in the middle of the road.
It never ceases to excite me.
Look at him.
He's so cute.
Hi, buddy.
Hi.
What you doing?
You just standing there?
You want to say hi?
Oh, you're scared.
It's okay.
You want to check out my motorcycle?
Yeah.
Hey, buddy.
You're coming too?
You're coming to say hi?
You just showed up out of nowhere.
I wish I brought apples.
I always forget that.
Okay, my love.
I'm going to go.
I'll take a picture.
Hi.
Me gusta mucho.
Son amigos.
Sí.
Tiene un amalo de la piedra.
Siempre está aquí.
Sí.
Pero habla.
Siempre.
Siempre habla.
Qué lindo.
Okay.
Muchas gracias.
Mucho gusto.
¿Cómo está?
¿Tiene coco frío?
Okay.
Sí, una.
Gracias.
Okay.
Time for a coconut break.
Okay.
So we go down this kind of smaller road, I think, and to find the trailhead to this waterfall,
hopefully.
Ah, ¿cómo está?
Y una pregunta.
El camino por la Rejueyo.
¿Me pueden pagar un hat?
Encaminando.
Allá.
No, yo hago una cosa.
Okay, okay.
Gracias.
Esto es el camino por allá.
Okay.
El moto está bien aquí.
¿Sí?
Okay.
Está allá arriba.
¿Cuántos minutos caminando?
Veinte minutos.
Okay, gracias.
Well, I didn't ask for a guide, but this kind local man just began leading me there,
which I never mind having the help and company.
However, I could barely understand a word he said.
I'm having a really hard time understanding what he's saying.
But just like many interactions, it's really not the words that matter.
And thankfully, he decided to lead me because there were quite a few water crossings where
I easily could have gotten lost.
Another little river.
The tree is incredible with this incredible stem.
He says it's seven years old.
It's amazing.
Oop, another river crossing.
Yet again, another river crossing.
Here we are, like eighth.
There's a bunch of cacao trees.
That is a cacao.
You see how they, with this pipe up?
It's held by sticks.
And one of my favorite parts was this little detour.
Look at all these banana trees.
They're really high, really tall.
Look.
And then you can see, probably in the camera you won't be able to see, but there are bananas.
There's a banana and then a little red thing.
Loving this.
Loving going through a banana forest plantation.
What I didn't realize was he was actually taking me by his home.
Which came bearing gifts.
Who lives here?
I don't know.
Do you work with the bananas?
I pay people.
Okay.
Look at this.
It's like a really fat banana.
I love it.
It's very, very sweet.
Super yummy.
Little moments like those are really my favorite.
Riding a motorcycle is fun and all, but for me, it's the places the motorcycle takes me
and the people I meet that I truly cherish.
So far, the 20-minute hike had already taken over an hour.
And hiking in motorcycle jeans, I could definitely feel it.
But thankfully, we were almost there.
Okay.
I think we've almost arrived.
Let's see the waterfall.
The water is just so clear and turquoise.
It's amazing.
It's like a cave and then the water comes up all the way.
And look how blue and clear this water is.
I have to go in.
It's really amazing.
These are my favorite, favorite, favorite type of spots.
It feels way better not hiking in my motorcycle jeans.
Whew.
Made it back.
And my bike is still here.
With everything intact, that was really great.
I'm going to change.
Alrighty.
That was nice.
I think he was happy with his tip.
And wow, what a beautiful place.
So now, I'm actually going to a place I've already been.
But I had to go back.
I have to go back with my drone.
Hello.
These dogs are cute.
Hello.
I hit pavement, so I think I have to look at the map soon.
There's some kind of celebration happening here.
I think there's a parade over here.
Look at this.
Oh my god.
It's amazing.
Passing those kind of things.
It's just so fun.
It's like you never know what you're going to run into.
Look at this.
So classic.
The little girl kind of like hanging off the bike with her dress on.
Look how cute.
Alright.
Going this way.
The best time of the day, just as the sun's going down.
So pretty.
Alrighty.
Here we are.
Look at this place.
Okay, I only have a little bit of time.
Well, this is it for my Dominican Republic series.
And by next week, I should have an update about what's going on with my own personal motorcycle.
And my travels continuing south.
I actually have so much to update you guys on, but that will all come with time.
So, thank you so much for watching.
And feel free to contribute gas money to keep my journey going.
And a huge thanks to all my monthly subscribers.
