Pennsylvania leaders to launch campaign regarding mental health of new mothers
Pennsylvania lawmakers are taking steps
to improve the mental health of new
mothers today officials announced a
campaign to spread awareness an action
uses Christy Leto joins us here in the
studio with those details Christie
maternal mental health conditions are
considered a leading cause of pregnancy
related deaths in Pennsylvania for women
of color it's even higher and now more
support is on the way for mothers as
part of a new initiative called act 102
it directs the State Department of
Health to create a public awareness
campaign about the symptoms side effects
and the treatment for perinatal and
postpartum depression it's part of the
PA Omnibus which was launched by the
black maternal Health caucus to address
the maternal mortality rate this
afternoon physicians at Pennsylvania
Hospital along with State leaders
detailed how this will educate more
families and new moms on the resources
available and how this is treatable
we're really excited that this bill is
going to pave away for us to have
additional resources and being able to
screen them diagnose them and give them
the resources they need is key to
helping them be able to take care of
themselves and their babies we need to
normalize the conversation but also
normalize how we help connect
individuals to those resources that they
need and doctors today say so often new
parents and families focus on the
child's well-being and making sure that
they have everything need they need but
part of that also includes paying
attention to the birthing person and
this bill addresses just that Rick all
right christe thank you for the that
