I love how this is basically mud.
Welcome to a new video! Thank you for checking in on me
and if you're new to my channel, hi my name is Tessa, I'm an artist and
we are in my pottery studio that I set up in my old childhood bedroom in my
parents' home. I want to show you my studio for the
first time today and we're also going to make some
pottery. If that's something you're interested in
then just keep watching.
So here we are in front of my desk. I got this IKEA desk with these
two separate, I don't know how you call it,
they're not legs. You just put a table top
on top. I mean that it somehow belongs together but I thought it was kind of
pretty. What's also good is I can place my
clay that is still packed onto the bottoms
and that way the desk doesn't move so when I throw the clay
and wedge it then the desk doesn't move which is great.
That is this area and over here we do have my pottery wheel.
Just for references there's the desk area
with some clay I want to reuse and clay that is still in the water that
needs to sink down but I think until today it has sunken enough.
And here I built this shelf. It's also from IKEA. I built it
with my boyfriend together and this is where I'm gonna store all
the things that I've pottered but for now it's just it's a bit random
and down there are just some clear bins that I will
store more clay in. And in this cute little box
we do have my pottery tools. It's just a few for now but
yeah. If you're from Germany and you're searching for a good
pottery wheel as a beginner then I can highly recommend this one because in
comparison it was not too expensive. That's a very good
pottery wheel for beginners. These chairs are from IKEA. I think they
are the most basic pottery chairs or stools that you can find
and this one has actually had the same size as the big one but I just
cut the legs a bit shorter so that I can sit comfortably at my
pottery wheel. Most of my tools are from IKEA too like the boxes,
the lamp, the apron and the bolts too. IKEA. Just IKEA.
Let's make some pottery, shall we? I'm fully dressed and prepared and ready
and the first thing we're gonna do is I'm gonna use this clay and we're gonna
recycle all of this clay now. I love how this is basically mud.
I love it. I'm still a pottery baby so there might be a lot of things
that I'm doing wrong. Don't go at me but if you're a bit advanced in pottery
then please give me any tips if you notice something I'm doing incorrectly.
The first thing I want to do, I want to clean up a bit because I
didn't do that last time. Big nay nay. Big up. Didn't.
I trust my intuition there. You have to spread it
pretty evenly and not too thin I believe but that's all I know.
I feel like this piece is almost still a bit
wet but I think we can work with it. I'm also going to prepare
multiple chunks now and I also have these two balls.
They were a bit too dry that's why I put them in this wet towel
and now I think they're pretty good and these two already feel better. They're
much tighter, much more firm. I think that's better.
So I've got my tools.
Now that I've potted this beautiful thing
I have to ruin it now. I have to cut the middle
to see if the walls are even and if the bottom is too thick, too thin
or okay because that's part of the learning
process. Yep, that was way too thin
at the bottom and the edges were really thick. This is why
you have to do that at the beginning because as you can see the bottom is way
too thin and the walls here are super thick and
on top here super thin again. It's good to see
that because that way you can learn and that way you know
what to make better the next time. Yeah, like a little couch.
And now I will do it again. This is what my fingers look like now
and this is what my pottery attempts look like.
That's part of the journey, that's part of learning.
I tried multiple times so let's clean this space up.
Okay, so for the most part it's clean. The floor is pretty clean and here
I'm just waiting for these pieces of clay to be
dry enough to put them in this plastic bag and then they will go into the shelf
and when that is done I will clean the tabletop.
This part is not dry enough yet so I'm gonna keep it here and
maybe I will come again tomorrow in the evening and
see what it looks like.
