Winter in New Zealand

For the last four years I've escaped winter in New Zealand. Cold winds and heavy rain had no appeal in my mind but even so I always wondered why people would travel here to experience a season I'd usually avoid. I decided to take a 10-day adventure in the middle of winter with some friends. This is my experience. The snow, rain and wintry conditions return once more to south of Otago field on the west coast. Welcome to winter, finally. Halfway in and winter was growing on me. I was beginning to experience New Zealand in a light I'd never seen before. On one of the days we hoped to capture the perfect time lapse at a glacial lake. Little did I know I was about to witness one of the most memorable moments of the entire trip. The moon set, a glacial lake froze over and the Milky Way rose beyond the highest peaks in New Zealand. Adventuring in the cold became addictive. I wanted to get out more to continue seeing and experiencing my home in a different way. I felt inspired to create a film which allowed you to feel like you came on this journey with me.
