Selena Gomez got her start on 'Barney & Friends,' and look at where she's at now. Our Women in Hollywood honoree opens up about not being able to breathe when meeting Meryl Streep, looking up to Jennifer Aniston, and the advice she’d give her younger self.
I'm Celia de Gomez and I'm a woman in Hollywood.
The first time I saw myself in a character was on Barney and Friends.
I was seven years old and it was very weird.
And I got made fun of a lot in school because I was in fourth grade on Barney.
But hey, look at where I'm at now.
The first woman in the industry I would say that influenced me in a way would be Jennifer Aniston.
She was one of the first few women in Hollywood that I had really met.
Jennifer always gives me advice on personal stuff or even just like dealing with all the craziness.
Sometimes this town can get lonely so it's nice to have people to look up to.
A Hollywood moment that still amazes me?
I will never forget when Meryl Streep walked in on set for All My Murders in the building.
I couldn't breathe for the first two minutes but she was unbelievably disarming and so lovely.
That was one of the first moments I realized that I was in a company of someone with grace and class and so much talent.
So I felt like a sponge and I wanted to absorb all of her knowledge and just become someone I look up to.
Advice I would give myself when I was starting out was, are you sure?
Are you sure? Because I was so young.
But I loved it and I guess I would say to myself, don't worry about what other people think and stay authentic to yourself.
The most difficult lesson I've learned in my career is to never doubt myself.
I think that I've prevented myself from getting opportunities and parts because I wasn't confident enough in what I'm able to do and what I'm capable of doing.
So I've learned to really just try to trust my instincts and just perform as much as I can with the best of my ability.
The future of Hollywood is when?
