Volvo's switch to a twin-charged four-cylinder engine in American models in 2017 was a significant change for the company. Twin-charging was not a very common application besides a few VW models about a decade earlier. However, Volvo has successfully used it with a relatively small number of major issues. Unfortunately, the supercharger—half of the twin-charging equation—is a common failure point.
