In October 2023, the composer Zhang Chao and lyricist Yu Zhuo'er were invited to create a new song, "Climb Spring Hills," for the CCTV Spring Festival Gala. Zhang Chao naturally incorporated elements of local ethnic minority folk songs and folk music from Guizhou Province into the composition. In the creative process, Zhang Chao aimed for a melody that was genuine and sincere, avoiding excessive complexity or abstraction, while also ensuring it was pleasant, easy to sing, and memorable.

When Yu Zhuo'er penned the lyrics for "Climb Spring Hills," she was inspired by the sense of renewal and the lush greenery of spring, as well as various spring festivals and folk customs. In many regions of Guizhou, besides the Spring Festival, the third day of the third lunar month has been traditionally celebrated, now known as the Climbing Mountains Festival, emphasizing the custom of hiking to enjoy the spring scenery. Thus, the song was named "Climb Spring Hills." Yu Zhuo'er hoped to convey in the lyrics the idea of gathering together in this spring season to admire the beautiful landscapes of the motherland, including every mountain in Guizhou, and to impart springtime greetings and blessings through the song.

In line with the overall musical style, she chose a colloquial language imbued with poetic and classical hues. Many images could be found corresponding to classical poetry, cleverly interwoven and adapted, culminating in the creation of the lyrics for "Climb Spring Hills" within a two-hour timeframe.

In the arrangement process of "Climb Spring Hills," Pan Anxin utilized a large amount of orchestral music to set the atmosphere. As this song depicts the joyous occasion of friends and family gathering together to enjoy outdoor activities during the blossoming of spring, Pan Anxin envisioned a scene of warmth and harmony, employing a plethora of folk music elements to create a festive and jubilant atmosphere. The fusion of grandeur and joy ultimately shaped this vibrant arrangement. After completion, the demo of the song was submitted to the CCTV Spring Festival Gala program team and was approved on the first draft.
