The Local2030 Coalition - Localization of the SDGs

Nov 3, 2024

Our world today is facing existential challenges, a climate emergency, environmental degradation, continuing conflicts and increased forced displacement. COVID-19 has compounded these challenges, worsened inequalities, disrupted lives and livelihoods. Extreme poverty around the world increased for the first time in 20 years.

Cities are at the frontline of the pandemic response. With local and regional governments, and communities, delivering public services. The Sustainable Development Goals address the world’s most pressing challenges. They present pathways to find solutions and harness opportunities with rapid urbanization.

The achievement of the SDGs and the pandemic recovery highly depends on our capacity to accelerate local action and strengthen local leadership.
Localizing the SDGs is critical to building an inclusive, resilient, and sustainable future for all.

That is why, the United Nations and partners, including the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments, are launching the Local2030 Coalition. The Local2030 Coalition brings together an extensive network of global, national, and local partners. Across local and regional governments, international organisations, the private sector, academia, and civil society. To facilitate the sharing of knowledge, best practices, and innovative solutions. That can shape a transformative recovery and accelerate progress on the SDGs.

Our global achievement of the SDGs rests on local actions.
