PLANTING LEEKS FOR WINTER / ALLOTMENT GARDENING UK

them doting about I've fed them and they've gone right over there honestly where have you gone good morning guys welcome back to my allotment Diaries um I just share all about my allotment plot here to my plot and Einstein and his mate have literally come over for food I fed them and then they just flew off somewhere they're sort of starting to come back now so maybe they'll come and eat oh you've decided to come back now have you yeah gas lighting me today I don't know what's wrong with them let's see if we can see him eating hang on he's coming now there he is come on then it's for you yes it's for you i' only been down here a couple of minutes I'm already having an argument with the robins yeah become very fussy with what I feed them and stuff I don't think they should be that fussy I think they should be grateful that I'm feeding them anything you know no one else feeds them around here anyway how you all doing thank you so much for coming back and watching another Vlog by me um it is a beautiful day um it's been Sunny like all morning and we did start with like a frost so everything's really glistening like diamonds everywhere it's really really beautiful I think what we will do first actually is check on the brassicas now I have a little bit of news and I'm not massively allowed to sort of share it in too much detail but basically quite a famous gardening show/ magazine is going to come to my lotman plot and do a little bit of filming with me um which is terrifying and exciting they want me to present a couple of segments for them one of them is sort of on brussel sprouts and I said oh yeah I've got brussel sprouts growing but actually I haven't checked on them for ages so they might all be dead so I'm a little bit nervous about that but also I just wanted to lighting's terrible here let's move that's a little bit better um look at my Claus as well it's still growing still inactive growth and still flowering ing yeah I just wanted to say that with with this Vlog that I make and all my social media channels I do get offered quite a lot of opportunities to do things every time I talk he's going to do that you you you don't believe me but you will I get the opportunity to do loads of things just told just how do they know and most of the time I do turn them down so I've had like the opportunity to be on TV the opportunity to present segments for like online channels I've had the opportunity to speak live at gardening shows around the country and I turned down like all of them and there's like a couple of reasons for that firstly I am too blooming nervous and I am a very anxious person and I really overthink things I'm not very good at being in front of other people like this is fine because it's just a camera and I'm sort of here on my own um and I can sort of cope with this but like doing it in front of like other people and other people physically watching me is quite scary um so I'm a little bit anxious but also a lot of the time I feel like an amateur and I feel like a complete fraud so to speak at like a gardening show I would feel like why on Earth would you want me to speak at the gardening show you watch me here I just whack stuff in um anyway I've taken this opportunity I've said yes they're coming at the beginning of November to film and I'm absolutely terrified and I feel like my plot just needs I just need to redo the whole plot now you know anyway brassus is one of the things they want to film so we're going to go and check on the sprouts and fingers crossed I've still got Sprouts oh God why didn't I why did I not look after the Sprouts more [Music] why yeah there are a few Sprouts I mean it's not it's not the healthiest looking sprout plant in the world I'm going to be honest with you guys it's not the healthiest looking the snails over it really little snails actually but there are sprouts growing on it oh God if I could just keep them alive a little bit longer please these are sprouts this is where the sprouts grow they grow right on the stem right on the center stem just in between the uh the little stalks coming off and um they're doing okay they're purple Sprouts they're doing all right oh God the relief that I've actually got a sprout growing God [Music] right what I'm going to do is take off some of the worst affected leaves sort of at the bottom see if I can make this plant look a little bit more healthy come on plant I know I neglected you for many many months but please can you just magically come back to life now I've decided I do want you I've decided suddenly I do want you to live right do you reckon Nat's going to live then if I do that I reckon that might you know I really hope he get some more Sprouts can you grow some more Sprouts please I'm stressing now why did I tell them that I had sprouts [Music] right so like I said I brought some links of me today that I sewed quite a long time ago actually I think like the beginning of August I seed these we're now approaching the very end of October so technically they ship be able to go outside now the thing is never been very good at growing leaks they tend to do what they want they don't really listen to me so does any P ever listen to me no that's a good point guys good point well made I can't even get them out the bag this is how uncooperative leaks are with me I can't even get it out the freaking bag now they say with leaks that the best time to plant them outside is when they're the size of a pencil so they're like thickness of a pencil mine never get to a blade and pencil thickness ever like ever so I thought I'd just whack them out now and the thing is as well is like what is a pencil is that the same as like how long's a piece of string is it all subjective to like what pencil you use maybe I've got a very thin pencil and they've germinated very well very well so we're going to whack them out and there's a little technique that I want to try out with these so let's go and find somewhere to put them yeah just a bit right so this is the technique that I've learned so we're going to make a hole nice big hole like this we can plant like a clump of leaks I don't particularly need to just get one but if I can just get one out I will look so I've got one there right a leak we put the leak in the hole and we hold the leak like so now we get water why is this so Bleak and complicated it's supposed to be easy we don't fill the hole in we just pour the water into the hole that why has it done that then I can never do this I can never get this right apparently you pour the water into the hole and the leak stands up on its own but it's not so I'm just going to fill it a little bit cuz I did not it didn't now it is now it's standing up but the idea is that the water's supposed to keep it up but that it that's just what I'm doing now let's give it another go we'll give it another chance we'll give you another chance right nice deep hole just with my thumb like that grab ourselves a little leaky friend which leaky friend are we going to go for you very very long routes bigger hole required right we're clumping these that's a little CLP clump of leaks God right I'm holding the clump and I'm just going to oh go missed it I missed it missed it missed the hole Falls over understand understand maybe I'm just supposed to leave it it feels weird just not like at least just doing that well you know what what we're doing is working I mean they are planted so let's just keep going I just don't think they can swim I just don't think they can swim don't understand it I just they can't swim so that's just what we've discovered leaks can't swim there you go what's that is that bind weed oh my God where have you come from where have you come from bloody hell Co this bind weed just came out of nowhere and it looks really fresh as well that's actually really worrying but he's out now this is going really well by the way I'm I feel really positive about these but I have run out of water I just need to run and get some more water and also I've got quite a few leaks left got quite a few left and they're really good they're really robust and strong I know they're not the size of a pencil but the roots are so long so I'm going to find somewhere else to plant them as well [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] right I do have a row of leaks here which actually sewed directly which have really grown and I think I want to sort of space them out a little bit now some of these ones at the end here are sort of really clumped together and they're kind of flopping but then maybe I should leave them I don't know no I think I should sort of separate them a little bit maybe but before we do that there's a secret carrot here a secret carrot and uh oh my goodness I think he's going to be a Who we're going to pull him up oh my goodness he's actually grown this is my only carrot this is my only carrot of the Year guys this is the only carrot I have managed to grow for the entire year and I really don't want to muck this up oh my gosh it's an absolute beute right what do I do what do I do do I push I think I push and pull Push Pull oh my god oh he's short but he's beautiful wow okay it's small but it's absolutely beautiful and it's got It's quite thick it's got some girth on him you know look at that absolutely beautiful I think it's a nant um it's amazing I mean what more can I say about it it is the greatest carrot that I've ever seen in my entire life it smells so carroty like until you've grown your own carrot and actually smelt your own carrot that you've pulled up from the ground you do not know what a carrot smells like I'm sorry but you just don't it is just the strongest most carate smell in the world if you could make a candle with that smell I'd buy it I'd buy it it' be a the amount of um business opportunities that I give people on this channel like ideas for new businesses like the tool ideas and uh like just everything but like a carrot smelling candle oh my gosh it's just beautiful it's just it's just the best thing I love you I'm not ashamed to say it right so now that we've got rid of that um carrot we can start Distributing these leaks now I'm a little bit worried cuz I don't think that's a leak that's not a leak that's a weed looking at that thinking that's a weird looking leak it's not a leak guys it's weird right so we're going to distribute some of these I know the roots go really deep so I'm going to have to dig aren't I let's give it a go I might end up killing them all but if we don't try we won't know prize them away from each other they become really good friends these Leakes they don't want to leave each other now look love each other come on I'm all tangled guys can the BR beans that we sewed directly um when was it like a week ago two weeks ago see if any of it's germinated it hasn't yet I don't think might it's not looking right no no germination yet but nothing's been dug up so that's a really good start no mouse has dug it up so hopefully that means that they they will germinate and we will get broad beans here I hope so anyway hope you've enjoyed
