in the future Starship will Journey even
further undertaking a range of critical
space missions the driving force behind
these Ventures is undoubtedly the Raptor
engine after focusing on Landing
capabilities in recent flights the time
is approaching to demonstrate the
Raptor's potential for inspace
operations preparations for this next
phase are are well underway so how is
SpaceX progressing with Raptor's
Readiness for space will we see the
Raptor engine operating beyond Earth's
atmosphere soon and how will this
Milestone impact the path ahead let's
dive into these questions on today's
episode of great SpaceX the Raptor
engine's Evolution has been marked by
remarkable progress in performance with
flight 5 setting a new standard in this
Mission the Raptor proved integral to
the controlled successful Landing of
both star ship stages affirming its
reliability and the success of spacex's
engineering advancements building on its
suborbital achievements SpaceX is now
pushing to validate the Raptor's
performance in space with a focus on
achieving multiple mid-mission relights
a complex yet essential requirement for
future deep space missions to prepare
McGregor's test facility has intensified
testing simulating the stresses of space
conditions one particularly impressive
test involved 34 rapid relights in just
10 minutes underscoring the Raptor's
adaptability and reliability under
strenuous conditions the next milestone
for SpaceX is to replicate these
relights during an actual space mission
which would be a Monumental step toward
starship's orbital and interplanetary
capabilities upcoming Starship V2
Vehicles like the s33 Prototype will
likely use the new Raptor 3 engines
bringing even greater power and
efficiency to Future flights SpaceX has
already increased Raptor 3 production
with McGregor's test stand scheduled for
expanded reptor 3 trials in preparation
for s33 is launch to handle these more
powerful engines McGregor's test
facility may need upgrades including a
sealed down flame trench system similar
to the one at Starbase this addition
would ensure both efficient performance
and long-term durability of the testing
infrastructure as SpaceX ramps up its
launches initially SpaceX had planned to
achieve the critical inspace light
Milestone on flight 3 but Mission
changes delayed this objective the
priority in flights 4 and five shifted
to refining re-entry and Landing
sequences both of which were critical to
validating starship's Landing system now
with these aspects achieved SpaceX is
set to refocus on the inspace relight
milestone in the upcoming flights an
accomplishment that would signal a
significant leap toward achieving
spacex's ambitious goals for starship's
role in lunar and Mars missions with the
success of flight 5 where the ship not
only completed re-entry but also
navigated accurately and executed a
controlled vertical Landing it seems
time to reintroduce the engine relight
Mission into the flight sequence this
Milestone could potentially happen as
soon as flight six if so rather than
catching the ship with the Chopsticks
SpaceX would allow it to complete a full
Earth orbit an essential stepping stone
toward future catching Maneuvers
incorporating this step would enable
SpaceX to test the ship capabilities
more comprehensively allowing it to
complete an orbital pass rather than
merely going halfway and landing in the
Indian Ocean such progress aligns
perfectly with spacex's forward momentum
of course this plan will depend on
spacex's decision-making however if not
achieved on flight 6 it'll likely be
prioritized on a subsequent flight to
pave the way for other critical missions
I'm optimistic this can be accomplished
by the end of 2024 creating a powerful
conclusion to spacex's year if you agree
respond with why not in the comments
then like share and subscribe to our
channel to stay up toate on spacex's
Journey the reason I'm eagerly
anticipating the engine relight in space
is that it's a pivotal step for the next
phase of the Starship project soon
SpaceX aims to bring the ship back and
capture it with the mechazilla arm as it
currently does with the super heavy
booster for this to happen at Starbase
the ship must complete a full orbit of
Earth requiring the engine's ability to
act activate in space this capability
would allow the engine to maneuver the
ship back toward Starbase for re-entry
with a similar navigation and Landing
process to the super heavy of course
there are concerns to address such as
the ship flying overp populated areas in
both Mexico and the US on its Journey
Back to Texas there's also the ongoing
challenge of ensuring heat shield tiles
stay intact during re-entry especially
on such a long Route One alternative
plan could be to land the ship in a less
populated location such as Australia in
this case the ship would travel over the
Indian Ocean and approach Australia's
West Coast returning Starship to Star
base would be the ultimate achievement
but this would necessitate substantial
upgrades particularly in the Raptor
engine's ability to perform Advanced
Maneuvers and reignite in space
successfully Landing back at Starbase
would pave the way for the next exciting
Milestone starship's capability to
deploy payloads given starship's
unprecedented size and power it's poised
to carry a record number of payloads
positioning SpaceX to surpass all other
launch systems in payad delivery
capacity the Raptor's inp space relight
capability will be critical here
allowing Starship to reach specific
altitudes required for precise payload
deployment once this Milestone is
achieved SpaceX will be ready to
undertake an even more ambitious
Endeavor developing an inspace refueling
system a foundational step for sustained
deep space missions and essential to the
Artemis program's success the
development of this refueling system
could start as early as next year with
initial plans outlining two specialized
Starships the target Starship or main
ship and the Chaser Starship or tanker
first the main ship would launch
entering orbit and awaiting the tanker
then the tanker would launch navigate to
the main ship Dock and transfer fuel
achieving full refuel capacity will
likely require multiple tankers making
this a complex yet revolutionary step in
space exploration this capability will
support missions deeper into space than
ever before marking a pivotal
advancement not only for SpaceX but for
Humanity's broader Ambitions in space
SpaceX has confirmed significant
progress on its road map having
completed crucial steps such as the
Tipping Point propellant transfer demo
and the propellant transfer demo flight
System review in 2024 for the remainder
of the year the focus will shift to
developing the necessary Hardware to
ensure written for the anticipated 2025
Mission among the proposed methods for
inspace refueling utilizing the pressure
difference between the two Starships
appears to be the most straightforward
and practical approach the system
underscores the critical role of the
Raptor engines which will need to be
activated for the ships to approach Dock
and facilitate fuel transfer achieving
this will require precise compatibility
between the two vessels to ensure a
seamless operation spacex's confidence
in this ambitious undertaking is
bolstered by the Raptor engines strong
performance in previous flights
particularly its role in the successful
Landing of the ship during flight 5
Additionally the successful transfer of
fuel from the header tank to the main
tank although not directly aligned with
the refueling objective serves as a
foundational achievement that paves the
way for future developments once the
essential systems are in place SpaceX is
likely to conduct tests using the human
Landing system variant of Starship
potentially beginning with an uncrewed
flight to validate the entire operation
one key goal of this Mission will be to
assess the engine's capabilities as
Starship Ventures beyond Earth's orbit
and deeper into space marking a crucial
step in human exploration of the cosmos
the emis 3 mission is set for September
of 2026 marking a significant milestone
in lunar exploration during this Mission
the Starship hls will embark on its
Journey To The Moon where it'll
Rendevous with NASA's Orion spacecraft
to transfer the crew following the
successful landing on the lunar surface
Starship hls will return the astronauts
to lunar orbit rejoining Orion to
complete the mission and safely bring
the crew back to Earth throughout the
critical phases of this Mission flying
to the Moon docking with Orion landing
and launching back into space the
performance of the Raptor engine will be
Paramount its ability to function
effectively in the harsh conditions of
space is essential for ensuring Mission
success however the scope of starship's
capabilities extends far beyond lunar
missions SpaceX and visions Starship as
a vehicle designed to reach even more
distant destinations particularly Mars
musk has ambitious goals aiming for the
first Starship flight to Mars within the
next 2 years and a crude Mission within
four the ultimate Vision includes
establishing a martian City within the
next two decades the Journey to Mars
presents a host of challenges including
its greater distance and harsher
conditions compared to the Moon thus the
engine's capacity to operate effectively
in space will be a crucial cral factor
in achieving these long-term exploration
objectives Paving the way for Humanity's
presence on other planets the pace of
progress in space exploration is
accelerating rapidly with significant
advancements expected in just a few
years currently we are witnessing
ongoing engine relik tests laying the
groundwork for the next phase of
development in the future this
capability will extend to operations in
space allowing Starship to ascend return
and build various systems for Missions
to the Moon Mars and Beyond
as we move toward these ambitious goals
the Raptor engine will continue to
undergo enhancements becoming even more
powerful and efficient however while
power is essential stability and
flexibility in operation will be
critical for the success of these
Journeys the ability to adapt and
perform reliably in the harsh conditions
of space will be of utmost importance
