Hi guys! 안녕하세요 여러분! Welcome back to Easy Korean Parent.
Today, we'll be learning how to say do you know in Korean.
After watching this video, you'll be able to say
Do you know BTS?
Do you know about computers?
Do you know who that person is?
Do you know where the Hongdae station is in Korean?
Let's get started!
So today's Korean sentence parent is this.
Noun plus 아세요 or 알아요
for former and noun plus 알아 for informer.
This is exactly the same with do you know blah blah blah in English.
So it means do you know something, this, that, or the other thing or person, right?
Once again, speak it out loud please.
Noun plus 아세요 or 알아요 and noun plus 알아.
All right, let's break it down.
알다, 알다 is a verb which means to know.
알다, 알다.
And its conjugation in present tense is 알아요, 알아요.
So it would be I know, you know, or he knows, she knows depending on the context.
And when you ask do you know in Korean, you just have to say 알아요, 알아요.
You know, high notes at the end 알아요
because doing that way makes the sentence question, 알아요.
So this is a formal way to say do you know something in Korean.
So right now you might think that okay, 알아요 means I know, you know, he knows, or she knows.
But why 알아요 is just about you?
Why does it mean do you know?
Yes, you're right.
There is no you in this sentence, 알아요.
You can't find 너 or 당신 which means you in Korean.
So it seems like you're just asking no in Korean, right?
So you might be confused.
But Koreans often don't mention you directly in Korean.
They just usually omit the subject, especially in colloquial situations,
you know, in everyday conversations.
So if you ask do you know in Korean, it's not necessary to say you
because it's very obvious that you are asking someone, right?
They are listening.
So it is okay not to say you.
So that's why there is no 너 or 당신 in today's sentence pattern.
You can just simply ask noun plus 아세요, 알아요, or 알아 in Korean.
So 알아요, 알아요 is a formal way.
But if you meet someone for the first time or if you are not close with someone,
you have to say 아세요, 아세요 instead because it's much more polite.
And in informal, it would be 알아, right?
Blah blah, 알아.
So let's take a look at an example.
If you say 방탄소년단 아세요 or 방탄소년단 알아요,
it would be do you know BTS for formal, right?
방탄소년단, this is a noun and then you put 아세요 or 알아요, right?
아세요, 알아요.
And also in informal phrase, you can say 방탄소년단 알아?
방탄소년단 알아?
All right.
What about this?
저 아세요?
저 is a formal way to say me in Korean.
So it would be do you know me for formal phrase, right?
Do you know me?
저 아세요?
Or you can also say 저 알아요?
저 알아요?
And of course, in informal phrase, you can say 나 알아?
나 알아?
Right?
나 is an informal way to say me.
나 알아?
Also, you can say do you know about something in Korean.
You can just put 에 대해서 right after the noun.
에 대해서.
It means about.
에 대해서.
So if you say 컴퓨터에 대해서 아세요?
컴퓨터에 대해서 아세요?
컴퓨터 means computer.
And 에 대해서 about 아세요?
Do you know?
So it would be do you know about computers?
컴퓨터에 대해서 아세요?
Also, you can say 컴퓨터에 대해서 알아요?
컴퓨터에 대해서 알아요?
And also, in informal phrase, you can say 컴퓨터에 대해서 알아?
컴퓨터에 대해서 알아?
What about this?
그분에 대해서 아세요?
그분 means him, her, or that person.
So it means do you know about him, her, or that person, right?
그분에 대해서 아세요?
And also, you can say 그분에 대해서 알아요?
그분에 대해서 알아요?
And also, in informal, you can say 그분에 대해서 알아?
그분에 대해서 알아?
All right.
Good job, everybody.
And also, you can say do you know who that is in Korean?
You can put 누구인지 right after the nouns.
누구인지.
So it would be blah blah 누구인지 아세요?
알아요?
Or 알아?
All right.
Let's take a look at this.
If you say 저분 누구인지 아세요?
It means do you know who that person is?
저분, that person, or him, her, depending on the context.
저분 누구인지, who that is, 아세요?
Do you know?
So it would be do you know who that person is?
저분 누구인지 아세요?
누구 means who, and 누구인지 means who that is.
And also, in informal, yes, 저분 누구인지 알아?
저분 누구인지 알아?
All right.
And also, you can say do you know where something is in Korean?
You can simply put 어디 있는지 right after the nouns.
어디 있는지.
So it would be noun plus 어디 있는지 아세요?
알아요?
Or 알아?
Blah blah 어디 있는지 아세요?
알아요?
Or 알아?
Let's take a look at this.
If you say 홍대역 어디 있는지 아세요?
홍대역 is Hongdae station.
어디 있는지, where something is.
아세요?
Do you know?
So it would be do you know where the Hongdae station is, right?
홍대역 어디 있는지 아세요?
Or 홍대역 어디 있는지 알아요?
홍대역 어디 있는지 알아요?
And also, in informal phrase, you can say 홍대역 어디 있는지 알아?
홍대역 어디 있는지 알아?
Do you know BTS?
방탄소년단 아세요?
방탄소년단 알아?
Do you know about computers?
컴퓨터에 대해서 아세요?
컴퓨터에 대해서 알아?
Do you know who that person is?
저분 누구인지 아세요?
저분 누구인지 알아?
Do you know where the Hongdae station is?
홍대역 어디 있는지 아세요?
홍대역 어디 있는지 알아?
