Trooper's Narrative:
On 10/14/2024, at approximately 10:25 A.M., I, Trooper James Booth, was located on the right shoulder of I-40 facing
westbound. I observed a grey Volkswagen traveling at 83 miles per hour in a 65-mile-per-hour zone with no license plate. I
initiated a traffic stop near Crystal Hill exit, and the vehicle began to pull over to the right. Shortly after, the vehicle accelerated
to speeds above 100 miles per hour. I radioed for backup, informing them that I was in pursuit of the vehicle. The vehicle took
the 147 exit to go south on I-430. While negotiating the curve, the vehicle almost collided with several other vehicles. The
pursuit continued south on I-430 near the 12-mile marker. The vehicle took an immediate right, crossing the gore in an attempt
to get away. I crossed over the grass hill near exit 12 and continued the pursuit. The vehicle was driven by Marquis Thompson,
who was later identified as the suspect, and was westbound on Maumelle Boulevard, passing the Kum and Go gas station. I
was setting up for a tactical vehicle intervention before the suspect turned right into a business parking lot of STONE by AJ
Countertops. Mr. Thompson drove around the back side of the business before driving through a wooden fence. Once
Thompson passed the threshold of the fence, he went down into a ditch before fleeing on foot. Trooper Van Schoyck and I
were able to locate Mr. Thompson, who was running by a nearby business. Trooper Van Schoyck gave several commands for
Mr. Thompson to stop. He then deployed his taser to stop Mr. Thompson from fleeing further. Once the taser made positive
contact with Mr. Thompson, we were able to place him in handcuffs. MEMS was called to evaluate Mr. Thompson's injury from
the fall. Trooper Van Schoyck transported Mr. Thompson to UAMS. I arrived at UAMS to relieve Trooper Van Schoyck. While at
the hospital, I was advised by the medical staff that Mr. Thompson was being admitted to the hospital due to the extent of his
injuries. An affidavit was completed for a warrant of his arrest.
