Snug as a bug in a rug. It's fresh. Yeah. It is getting a bit windier. Clouds moving fast.
Just have to see how we go. Yeah. Yeah. Good.
We've come, hello, it's me all wrapped up. We've come driven over to the southern
end of Haweswater and we were kind of planning on heading or doing a little circular route,
not super far. It's only about seven Ks, but fairly a lot of ascent, um, up to Hartafell
and taking in a couple of the passes. And, um, as you can see, it's super snowy. We weren't
expecting snow today, but if there's one thing I tell you about the Lake District is you never
know what you're going to get really. Um, yeah, the forecast had also given a lot of wind. So
originally we had planned just to stay in the Valley, but we didn't think there was a lot of
wind. Uh, so we decided to go up the hill and now as we started going up, we realized there is a lot
of wind. So we're just kind of playing it all by ear as you have to, especially with the wee one,
although she is very, very nicely wrapped up in Harvey's jacket,
snug as a bug. So fear not at all. Um, yeah, she's got all the layers on. So just going to play it
by ear today. It's a beautiful day to be out. Can't wait until we get up into the sun. Yeah.
It's really nice to be back in the lakes as well. Just going to check her and just see,
Oh, I can't get in. See how hot she is. Good way to check between the shoulder blades. I mean,
she feels quite warm, but I just want to make sure she's not too warm because I'm quite, I'm warm.
There we go. Oh yeah. I know. I know you're very cozy. I mean, you're not sweating. That's
main thing. You wouldn't think we'd be worried about her being too hot, but she takes so much
heat from Harvey. Yeah. So just got up to small water and it's actually really still up here.
We're properly sheltered from the wind, which is really nice. Um, yeah. So I reckon we might
go up Hartafell. Do you think? Yeah, I think so. Yeah. We'll start going up and see what it's like.
I think it's definitely going to be a bit windy up top. But if we just go up and then just get
down quickly, you know, we know that we can come down and yeah. So we know it's quite windy today.
It wasn't showing signs of it being as windy. Athena's getting a little, you're a little bit
like worried and quite rightly. I am always the one who, um, I'm the safe one, I guess.
Not that Harvey's a risk taker, but he's more likely to be like, oh, it'll be fine. Whereas
I'm like, I think we should go back or. Yeah. I suppose I'm more like, let's see what it's
going to be like. So at the moment we're in the, we're in the lee of the hill. And, um,
so we're out of the wind. We get like little moments of spin drift coming over. Yeah. I think
we're going to head up, keep heading up to the pass. See what it's like. Yeah. If she doesn't
like it as well, cause she'll let us know. Yeah. Um, and then we'll see what it's like. Cause
we're going to, the idea is to go up and over heart of fell and, uh, but that's going to be
a bit more exposed. So yeah, we're going to go, the idea is to go up and over heart of fell and
just see what it's like. Yeah. There are moments when it's just completely flat, like now. And
then there are moments when you feel the wind come in and it's like, Oh God, maybe we should
turn back. So it's going to play it by ear really. And yeah, I mean, it's definitely,
you can see the wind on the lake. Yeah. Yeah. And, um, but it's not as bad as, you know,
it's supposed to be like 40 mile an hour winds, but it's not looking that way. The clouds are
moving fast. I don't know. I don't know how to judge how fast the wind is by how fast the clouds
are moving. We headed into the light, which felt glorious, but the wind was definitely picking up.
So we decided to descend from this point at Nan Beald pass.
Hiking with a 10 week old isn't about reaching any summits, not for us anyway. It's about
learning to move together in the hills as a three plus Oslo, who just runs around doing his own
thing. We learn something new on every hike. We do something else we should have brought
or another way to become more efficient and ensure Aoife is as comfortable as we can make her.
This isn't just the case of a baby in tow, but when planning a route with anyone,
there's always a chance that you might have to adapt to the conditions and individual circumstances
on the way. For us, these rambles in the hills are about enjoying the outdoors together
as a family, allowing Aoife to share our passions. Hello. So as you can see, it is another absolutely
beautiful day in the Lake District. And so we are making the most of the weather
and we are out again enjoying the beautiful views. We are at Olds Waters today and we've
actually met up with my sister, Anna, who is now working as a photographer for the National Trust
and she wanted us to come along and take some photos of us as a family for her work.
So we're heading up Go Barrow Fell above Olds Water for sunset. It's just beautiful. It's about
three o'clock now, so about an hour before sunset. Yeah, really looking forward to getting up there.
