Giant Spring Pike CHEWS Through Net!!! (Catch Clean Cook)
On this episode, we hit the shallow bays of Lake Joseph in Muskoka, Ontario searching for spring Pike. I'm fishing with one of my oldest childhood friends Ryley Begg who is an expert fisherman, outdoorsman, and guide up in the Muskoka region. We hooked into a hog early that smashed a swim bait right by the boat, and she ended up chewing her way out of the net. Then I snagged a perfect eater size gator right on the shoreline. These fish (along with their cousin The Musky) are the apex predators of lake waters and a lot of people are turned off from eating them because they're slimy and very bony. But I found a new way to take out the Y bones and the meat on these fish out of cold water is even better than walleye. I love May in Muskoka because it's the best chance of hooking into a big Pike all year before they move to deeper water as the lake warms up. A good thing to note is to not keep Pike once the water reaches around 70 degrees because the meat tends to become soft and mushy as the surrounding water gets warm. So, I hope you guys enjoy the episode and I would have kept fishing but a gnarly thunderstorm showed up and we had to find shelter as fast as we could. We'll be back in a few weeks to try and hook a giant in deeper water with giant cranks!
