So if you're here to research your upcoming trip to Sarajevo, don't worry, we've got you covered.
In this video, we're going to be sharing with you all the top things to do in this beautiful city.
If you're a family, we'll also take care of that as well.
We will indeed.
We're Build A Picture, the family of three, and we've been travelling this beautiful country for the last two months.
And today, we've put together the most comprehensive guide the internet has ever seen.
They're in no particular order, so make sure you stick around to the end so you don't miss out on anything.
Most people arriving in Sarajevo will be flying in internationally.
So you're probably feeling a little bit jet-lagged.
The key is to take it easy on your first day or two.
Quick note on the SIM cards.
We picked ours up from the airport and used BH Telecom.
We got 30GB for 30 days for £17.
They're prepaid SIM cards, so it made it quick and easy.
We were so happy with the signal.
Even in the highest and most isolated villages, we had full bars.
We recommend starting off in the heart of Sarajevo at Baščeště, the old bazaar.
It's a short taxi ride from the airport, and it's the perfect place to immerse yourself in the city's rich history and vibrant culture.
A taxi ride from the airport to Baščeště will cost you around £50.
Alternatively, you can try to use local apps like Sarajevo Taxi or Mojš Taxi for more convenience.
But we had no luck with these.
Top tip.
Make sure you stay within walking distance of the city centre to be close to all the action.
We stayed at two lovely Airbnbs in the heart of the historic town.
We'll link them in our travel guide below.
Once you're there, take a stroll through the narrow cobblestone streets and enjoy a traditional Bosnian coffee at one of the many charming cafes.
You'll find plenty of halal places to eat, from local ševapi to delicious baklava.
We've got a full guide to eating in Sarajevo linked below.
Other things to keep in mind.
The tap water is safe to drink.
We found it so refreshing at our first Airbnb.
The currency is Bosnian Mark, and it's around 2.3km for every pound, so pretty much half.
Day two is all about exploring the history.
So after a good night's rest, it's time to explore Sarajevo's rich history.
Start your day at the Latin Bridge, the site where Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, sparking World War I.
Just a short walk away, you'll find the Museum of Sarajevo, where you can dive deeper into the city's fascinating history.
The museum is small but packed with information, so take your time.
For lunch, head over to the best ševapi in town.
If you don't know what a ševapi is, they're delicious grilled beef sausages served with fresh flatbread.
Next, check out the Eternal Flame.
A monument dedicated to the victims of World War II.
As you explore the city, you'll notice bullet holes and markings from the Bosnian War on many buildings.
This is a powerful reminder of Sarajevo's past.
Don't miss Sarajevo's Cathedral and Bezistan Bazaar.
This is where you can find some unique souvenirs and knock-off items.
For a truly local experience, hop on one of the oldest trams in the city.
It's a great way to see Sarajevo in motion.
On day three, it's time to see Sarajevo from above.
Take the cable car up to the Trebek Mountain for stunning panoramic views of the city.
The cable car ride itself is an experience and once you're at the top, there's plenty of hiking trails to explore.
After soaking in the views, head back down and visit the Yellow Fortress for a perfect sunset spot.
Grab a pizza from Mahir Pizza Place and take it with you.
Trust me, it's one of the best things that we did.
Enjoy the view from the fortress, it's honestly magical.
If you have time, stop by Hotel Deco for a coffee and amazing views of the historic town.
Now, let's talk children's play areas.
We visited the SCC Mall, which had a great children's play area called Playland.
It cost around £6 for an hour.
You'll find more play areas around the city, so check out our full guide for more details.
Day four is all about a day of reflection.
Sarajevo has a complex and often tragic history, so it's important to take the time to reflect.
Start your day at the Tunnel of Hope, a lifeline during the siege of Sarajevo.
The museum here gives a real sense of what life was like during the siege.
Next, visit the War Crimes Against Humanity Museum.
It's a deeply moving experience, giving a powerful look at the impact of war on the people of Sarajevo.
We highly recommend booking a free walking tour to dive deeper into Sarajevo's history.
Our local guide took us around the only remaining coppersmith's tree,
a hidden gem we might have missed without his help.
We used spirit tours and Adnan was fantastic.
Day five.
If it's a Friday, start your final day with Friday prayers at Ghazi Khuzrev Beg Mosque.
This is one of the most significant Islamic sites in the Balkans.
The sense of peace and community here is incredible.
For dinner, we recommend Avlija, a hidden gem serving traditional Bosnian dishes with a modern twist.
After dinner, head to Sebil Fountain and experience Sarajevo's vibrant nightlife.
Grab a tea, indulge in some baklava and people watch.
Sarajevo's ice cream is honestly a must-try.
We've had some of the best here.
If you're looking for the best burger in town, make sure you check out Samat Burger.
We also discovered a Palestinian restaurant and so much more.
Check out our top five halal spots linked below and make sure you try Sky Cola.
It's a local favourite.
For day trips, consider visiting Mostar, Lukamir or Konjik.
We'll cover these in more detail in our next video of the top things to do in the whole of Bosnia.
We hope this guide helps you plan your trip to Sarajevo.
It's a city close to our hearts and we'll show you love it just as much as we do.
