Hi, I'm Dave from The Good Food Store with another wine tip. Today we're going to be talking about
champagnes and sparkling wines. While sparkling wines are produced all over the world, the
birthplace of sparkling wine was in the Champagne region of France. Elsewhere in France, you'll find
a lot of sparkling wine made. Much of this wine, very good, under $10 a bottle. It's something you
can put into a mimosa. It's something you can serve as an aperitif or actually have with dinner.
One of my favorites is Grand Isle. It comes from outside of the Champagne region,
but it's made in the same manner as Champagne. Prosecco is another very popular wine that is
a sparkling wine from Italy. California and the United States is another area where you find a lot
of really good sparkling wine. Korbel is one of the oldest sparkling wine producers in the United
States. They make a very nice product year in, year out. Another thing that makes sparkling wines
a lot of fun is not all of them are white. A sparkling wine from Australia, they use Shiraz
grapes and the wine is left in contact with the skin for so long that this wine is actually purple.
So I'm often asked, besides toasting at New Year's Eve, what else do you use Champagne for?
Well, if you're having a gathering, a bottle of Champagne is a great way to start a party,
start an event. They also are wonderful food wines. Champagne pairs well with seafood.
Rosé Champagnes pair very well with salmon or duck, and actually some of the darker,
the heavier Shiraz-based Champagnes will actually pair with a beef dish. So whether you're toasting
New Year's Eve, having mimosas on a Sunday morning, or having a bottle of Champagne with a nice meal,
sparkling wines, like most wines, come in a wide range of styles and flavors, wide range of price
points. So thanks again. Dave from The Good Food Store, and remember, conserve water, drink wine.
