Same bed but it feels a little bit bigger now
I sung on the radio but it don't sound the same
When our friends talk about you all it does is just tear me down
It breaks a little when I hear your name
To try and punch you to know
And gives you all his hours
Has the chance
Takes you to everybody
How much you love to die
Do what I should've done
Who have we got?
My name is Arthur, I am 19 and I'm from Victoria
It's weird to be back isn't it?
It's surreal, it's so weird
It's familiar but slightly different
It is slightly different, the stakes are way higher
Hi, I'm Arthur, I am 19 and this is not the first time I've been here
I auditioned for The Voice in season 11
The night before my audition I had a life-threatening reaction to Brazil nuts
And I discovered that by going into anaphylaxis
I just lost complete motor control, struggling to breathe, fire, pain
Coursing through my entire body, 10 doctors around me, nurses
Like, oh my god, there's a 17-year-old boy that's about to die
It's terrifying, very scary
Woke up in the hospital the next day, nagging the doctors to release me
So I could go and clutch my flight
And I came to do my blind audition, I wasn't going to miss that for anything
Great song, great song
Good song
But it don't sound the same
When our friends talk about you
All it does is just tear me down
Heart breaks a little
Keep playing
When I hear your name
I hope he buys you flowers
And holds your hand
In his hours
When he has the chance
I was dancing
With another man
You have an incredible voice
Overall, the energy was high
But for me, I thought you were at 100 the whole time
In certain songs there is that push and pull
And I feel like I just didn't have that variety
But I would have loved to hear that light and shade personally
Arthur, can we try and experiment really quick?
Of course
Let's hit the piano for a sec
Because the song is an intimate song
But it's also about just believing it
No matter what your voice is
So what I'd suggest is, singing a little bit of the chorus
Is that your mum and dad right there?
It is
Okay, so your mum and dad are sleeping right now
You're at home, right?
It's like 3 in the morning
You've just woken up with this amazing idea for a song
And you've run out to the piano
And you want to sing it a little bit
But you can't wake your mum and dad up
So you've got to sing it nice and quiet
I hope he buys you flowers
Holds your hand
In his hours
The chance
To take you to every party
All you wanted
To do was dance
My baby's dancing
With another man
Thank you
So the reason I wanted you to do that
Is don't underestimate the person you are
Underneath that voice
Which is a very raw, real, sensitive, loving human being
We're going to feel that
No matter what your voice is
Yeah, we did, that was amazing
Thank you
If I was a girl with that other man
I would be coming back to you after that
This is a great chapter in your life
And I think you have serious talent
And you're going to get to some really exciting places
So cool
That's good, man
That's the way to do it
Just think differently like that sometimes
Trust yourself
The song that I'm singing for my blind audition
Is When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars
This is the same song that I sang in season 11
So I can prove that it wasn't the song
This time I am primed and ready
This is Unfinished Business
That's why I'm here
I'm back to turn the chair
I'm doing it, no matter what
You should take this as a huge compliment
There is no tougher time to audition than right then
Well, I disagree
I auditioned two years ago with you here
You must have looked different
Yeah, I definitely looked different
What happened?
I'd just come out of the hospital
I went into anaphylactic shock
The day before my blind audition in season 11
How?
I ate a Brazil nut
I didn't know that I was anaphylactic
And so I literally walked out of the hospital
And went straight to the airport to come and do my audition
Oh, wow
So the audition was a little wonky
Was it a weird audition?
So I didn't turn into chairs last time
Anaphylactic shock, that affects your airways, right?
Absolutely
I was also on lots of medications
I had no sleep
I was completely exhausted
And also this mental state of being like
To have something that actually
It could have killed me
That was definitely a headspace
That wasn't the best for going into the blind auditions
No
Damn
And it was very, it was scary
Like it was super scary
I was not in a good way
And I'm actually, I'm glad that I didn't turn into chairs
I didn't really know who I was
As an artist at that time
You know, this was redemption
Came back and
Look at that
You can literally say it took some nuts
To get to a position where you could audition again
It really did
Yeah
Jokes aside, that was awesome
You know, it seemed so easy for you
You hear that song covered all the time
And I've never heard it covered like that
You would cut notes short
Which I really loved
It was a very musical approach to the song
You weren't trying to impress
It felt like you know who you are
Do you know what I mean?
Absolutely
I would love you on Team Guy
I absolutely love that story
About you going into anaphylactic shock
That came out wrong
That was a weird opening to a pitch
Keep going, I'm sure there's more
A lot of people talk about
The ingredients necessary for a music career
Talent, luck and timing
But I think something that's often neglected
That is even more important
Is being on Team Kate
No, is
That I have not heard of before
Is tenacity
That little voice in your head that says
Keep going, keep going
That level of hunger
I think is even more important
Than luck, talent or timing
And the thing is the longer you hang in there
The more luck and timing
Are going to come your way
Your voice is really special
And you belong on my team
Thank you so much
Kate listed all the ingredients
Of what Team Kate could have
But you've got to be really careful
Because sometimes just in the corner
Might say may contain traces of nuts
Copy that
Hi
Hello
You're adorable, like really adorable
I mean take this in the best way possible
But you have this kind of Harry Styles
Like little thing going
And it's super cool
Just different textures that were there
That were really beautiful
I love when you got soft
And then you have all these
Beautiful runs and openness
You have it all
I would love to have you on Team Leanne
It was absolutely beautiful
Thank you, thank you
I know I'm not pitching
My team is full
But I don't know, there's something
About the way you carry yourself
And the voice, it was very distinct
It didn't sound like anybody else
I really think you're a star
Thank you so much
Make a decision
It's so hard
I feel like I'm under attack
I think that
Oh my gosh
Not there yet, not there yet
I need to talk
I think the ingredients are amazing
Are you breaking up with me?
The only thing is
I want to work with someone
That I got to perform in
In front of two years ago
So for that I'm going to go with Guy
Oh shit, so good to see you
Absolutely, well done
Now I'm closer
I'm starting to remember your face
Thank you so much
Thank you
Should we get to the song?
Let's do it
It's Tate McRae, You Broke Me First
I'm not a pop singer
I never have been
This is not a song I would normally sing
By any stretch
This song is going to be more of a challenge
Than you think it is
Even though it sounds simple
It's so complex in the way she sings
She puts a lot in a short amount of time
Such a short amount
It's so musical how she sings
It's very creative
Timing is everything in this song
I do love this song
I think it's different to what I sing
I'm very much a ballad singer
The timing on this song is very tough
The verses, they're very fast
A lot of lyrics in a short amount of time
I'm feeling really overwhelmed
There is a lot of words
And I can't sing very quickly
The secret to verses like this as well
Is you don't sometimes have to say full words
Maybe you don't like talking about
I didn't say like, I just went like
Don't feel like you've got to sing it so much
Cut stuff short, it'll help you heaps
Technically this song is really difficult
There's some really rhythmic fast bits in the verse
With lots of lyrics
And then some more spacious, melodic moments
To really nail this song, you need musicality
I actually love this for you guys
It's going to make you think about singing differently
It's going to make you think about
Approaching a song differently
Obviously only one can win
Let's give it everything, hey
Fight for that knockout spot
This song is definitely intimidating
Because I think I'm already going to
Have difficulty with just the lyrics
This song is definitely a challenge for me
It's very much talk singing
I'm not sure if I will be able to keep up
To win this battle would be
Just the next step in an already amazing experience
I want to get through the knockouts
And if I don't, I will be devastated
Only one person is going to be able to win this battle
And I'm going to do everything I can
To make sure that's me
Maybe you don't like talking too much about yourself
But you should've told me that you were thinking about someone else
You're drunk at a party
Or maybe it's just that your car broke down
Your phone's been off for a couple of months
So you're calling me now
I know you, you're like this
When things don't go your way
You needed me to fix it
And like me, hide the reason
Now suddenly you're asking for it back
Could you tell me where'd you get the nerve
You could say you miss all that we had
Really care how bad it hurts
When you broke me first
You broke me first
I was in denial when I first heard
That you moved on quicker than you could've ever
You know that hurt
I swore for a while I would stare at my phone
Just to see your name
But now that it's there
I don't really know what to say
I know you, you're like this
When things don't go your way
You needed me to fix it
Like me, I did
But I ran out of every reason
Now suddenly you're asking for it back
Could you tell me where'd you get the nerve
You could say you miss all that we had
Really care how bad it hurts
When you broke me first
Oh, you did
That was incredible.
We'll get some help from the coaches
because this is going to be a tough call for you, I'm sure.
Leanne, who would be your winner?
I really enjoyed that.
I think you guys both have cool voices.
James, I do love the tone of your voice.
The tone is really beautiful.
Yeah.
Thank you so much.
There's this low, warm feeling
that I get when you sing.
And Arthur, your voice,
the sliding up into falsetto,
back into chest,
is so effortless.
That was stunning.
Adam, who came out on top for you?
I have to say, Arthur,
you have such an interesting stage presence,
but I think you have a real star quality,
and I see that here today as well.
There's something about the way
you carry yourself on stage
where it feels very sure,
and I thought your tone was really beautiful.
It was a really fluid sound,
and there's a lot of potential with you.
And I don't know what it is exactly, but...
Thank you.
Thank you, Adam.
Well, Guy, the decision is yours.
So who won the battle?
I think what we just saw
shows just how difficult
our job as coaches is.
It was so neck and neck.
It was this race that was just,
you know...
I think, Arthur,
you have this confidence,
and you do have this ability
and this potential and musicality.
James, there's something super musical
in the way that you sing.
It's really pop.
It's like you think about every line.
I'm never bored.
Those little vibrato moments,
those things just make me tune in
to you singing lyrics.
To the knockouts.
It is James.
Congratulations, James.
Thank you so much.
You've won the battle.
You've been victorious.
We'll go through.
Pleasure.
Now for James.
Arthur, is there anything
that you could say right now
to the coaches to convince them
to take you through?
Performing is my life.
And, Adam,
your presence is something
that I will genuinely hold in my heart
for a very, very long time.
I have so much more
still to show you.
So much more.
Make your decision.
Will you save Arthur?
Unfortunately, Arthur,
you have not been saved
in this instance.
It's been great having you on the show.
Thank you so much.
Put your hands together
for Arthur, everyone.
Wait a minute.
No.
I wasn't sure.
You got it, bro.
Thank you so much.
You're welcome.
It's going to be fun.
We're going to have a good time.
I'm so excited.
You got it.
I'm so glad he did that
because, honestly,
I was hoping that would happen
with you.
I was flipping between
every second line.
So just keep
proving why,
you know.
I cannot thank Guy enough
for what he gave me.
But I'm so excited
to work with you, Adam.
Your showmanship,
the control that you have
in your voice
is something that I really
want to learn from.
Oh, yay.
Thank you so much.
My pleasure.
We'll see you at the No-Count.
Arthur,
your song is going to be
Stay by Rihanna.
I'm not 100% sure of it,
but, you know,
I know the basic gist of it
and I can sing it.
I can play it.
Okay, okay.
I think the challenge for you
is finding a couple
little things
that you can do
to give it some character
and some musicality.
Now make it yours.
Yeah.
I think Arthur needs to
put his spin on it.
He needs to find some
signature stylistic choices.
I think that'll make it
work really well for him.
Really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like
I can't live without you
It takes me all the way
I want you to stay
I think I have to base
this decision on
the entire journey.
It's not just about this moment.
I think the artist that
I can offer the most to
moving forward
is Arthur.
Congratulations, Arthur.
You are singing again later
at the showdown.
That was hard.
That was a hard one.
Congratulations.
Yeah, my pleasure.
Yeah.
Get ready for the next one.
Next round.
She packed my bags last night
Pre-flight
Zero hour
Nine a.m.
And I'm gonna be high
As a kite by then
I think it's gonna be
a long, long time
Till touchdown brings me
round again to find
I'm not the man
they think I am at home
Oh no, no, no
I'm a rocket man
Rocket man
Burning up his fuse
out here alone
And I think it's gonna be
a long, long time
I think it's gonna be
a long, long time
The artist that will take
my last semifinal position
will be
Annie Jones.
