So there are two specific pet products that I see as the most opportunity to start if you're
thinking of starting a pet business and you are wondering what pet products to create.
If we have not met before, my name is Keri Fitzgerald and I'm an e-commerce strategist
and your best friend when it comes to starting an e-commerce store. So back in 2016, I started
my first product based business called the dapper dog box. It was a pet online store,
e-commerce business and a subscription box. And I sold a lot of different pet products. Pet
products are incredible because the pet industry is one of the fastest growing industries literally
today. So it is such an awesome opportunity for you to start a really cool brand. But pet parents
are the coolest customers to have. They are obsessed with their dogs and their cats and
other animals that they have. And they will continue to buy things to make their pet's
life better. So for you, opportunity. So the first product that I see as the highest
opportunity in terms of growth and markup opportunity is this product. So the first
product is a dog poop bag holder. So you can see here, I have an image here of a manufacturer that
I found by doing a basic search on Alibaba. There's a lot of different types of dog poop
bag holders that you can manufacture, customize by color, brand, visuals, etc. So there's a lot
of opportunity here. But the reason I think this is such an awesome product is for multiple reasons.
One, it follows two out of my three requirements when it comes to starting a product based business.
One, it should have a clear pain point for the customer that your product solves.
Two, it should be lightweight, easy to ship. And three, it can be something that's replenishable
or consumable. So you can set it up as a subscription. And so you get recurring revenue
because customers will get the product over and over and over again. So this product here that
I'm going to talk about follows two of those three things. One, it's lightweight. Two,
it's easy to ship, it's cheap to manufacture. So there's huge profits opportunities. So if you look
at this chart here, you can literally manufacture these dog poop bag holders, they're silicone,
they're customizable. So you can make different designs, different colors, different shapes, etc.
You can literally manufacture these for if you're looking at the chart here, and I'm looking at my
chart on my other screen. So I'm just going to look over here. But you know, depending on the
quantity that you want to start with. So if this is your first business, and you have no idea what
you're doing, you should definitely watch my other videos where I walk through how to start an
ecommerce store, how to choose products, profitable products in the pet industry. But if you're new
and getting started, start with a minimum MOQ, which is basically your quantities that you have
to order from this manufacturer. So if we're looking at this manufacturer from Alibaba,
their minimum is 50 to 189 or 199 pieces. And those are $1.40. So it costs you $1.40 to manufacture
this beautiful little poop bag holder. If we then move into 200 to 499 pieces, the price drops
per piece down to 0.59. So 59 cents to manufacture 200 of those poop bag holders. And then if we want
to save even more money, we go into the 500 to 999 bracket. And that is 49 cents per piece. And then
if we're ordering over 1000 pieces, it drops down to 29 cents. So it's definitely a volume game here
if you're wanting to save the most amount of money. But if you're new, just getting started,
and you're just wanting to test one design, just go with the with the basic smallest option here.
So you can literally start manufacturing these for $1.40. And the benefit of that
is massive, massive, massive markup opportunity. So I'm going to recalibrate my numbers here
because I pulled up a different chart with different numbers. And I just want to look at
as an example, say you started to do this poop bag holder, and you bought it for $1. So it cost you $1
from overseas to the US $1 door to door. So this is going to fudge a little bit,
depending on if it actually costs you 150 or $2 or 50 cents, right? So just do that you can do the
math on your own here, but also just use your imagination. So let's say it costs you $1. So
if we're going to use that poop bag holder from Alibaba, the bottom tier for 50 pieces is 140. So
$1 and 40 cents, the next tier goes to 200 pieces minimum, and that's 59 cents. So I'm going to kind
of average the two and just say $1. You can sell these for about $10. So if you're going to sell
these on Amazon on Etsy on your own store, you can kind of go up and down a little bit on the
price point, but people would pay about $10 for a dog poop bag holder, especially a cute one with a
cute design. So it costs you $1. You can sell that product for $10. That is a 90% profit margin,
and it's a 900% markup. So your profit would be around $9. Again, this does not include
how much it's going to cost you to ship to your customer. It does not include
fees from your Shopify store or your Etsy store or Amazon or any of that. So of course,
that might not be your actual profit, but approximately if we're just looking at your goods,
the products, the cost of manufacture, and what you're going to resell it as,
that is a 90% profit margin. That is huge. So that's why I love this product so much, because
one, you have huge profit margins. I see so many of you, you buy a product for $5
and you resell it for 10, and that's not enough profit. You're not accounting marketing customer
acquisition costs if you're running ads, if you're paying influencers, paying yourself,
et cetera. So you have to make sure that you're allocating enough opportunity for major profit
here. And this product is a freaking winner. So the reason I love this product so much is one,
it's super cheap to manufacture. It's super small. So one, it's not going to cost a lot
of money for it to be shipped from overseas to the US. And then two, it's not going to cost a
lot of money to ship to your customer. You can literally put that little poop bag holder in a
teeny little bag, poly mailer bag, ship it in the US and it probably costs you, I'm going to assume
maybe three to $4. Don't quote me on that, but it's probably going to be about three to $4
because it's so lightweight. And anything under a pound is going to be probably $5
or less approximately. USPS shipping constantly keeps going up. So don't quote me on that exact
numbers. I'm just kind of guesstimating here. And the second thing is that it solves a huge
pain point for customers. So I'm a huge dog walker. I have two dogs. I walk my dogs every single day.
And for years, I would basically walk my dog, pick up the poop, put it in the poop bag,
and then have to hold the poop bag. And once I bought this poop bag holder from one of my
customers that are one of my clients that I worked with, because she actually started to
manufacture these poop bag holders. I bought one from her and I was like, wow, that is a game
changer. I'm now able to take the poop bag, clip it into the bag, and it's now on my leash. I'm
not holding it. So my hands get freed up to hold an iced coffee or hold my phone while I do some
work or things like that. So it actually tremendously improved the quality of my dog
walking and allowed me, again, to multitask when I walk. And my dog walks are part of my
business. I consider that part of my business and work time because I come up with good content
ideas. I check in with clients. I message with people on Instagram and things like that. So I'm
actually working while I do a lot of my dog walking. And so to free up space on my hand
actually was a huge thing that it solved a pain point for. And then the third reason I love this
product idea is huge opportunity for profit. And then as that grows for you, as like you can hone
in on a couple of really cool designs, you can then do seasonal designs. So when someone has
one poop bag holder, they're like, oh my God, I want this other one because these designs are
super cute. So just like any other product where there's seasonality. So my first business I
started again was the Dapper Dog Box. And I manufactured dog bandanas. And I also sold a
pet subscription box. So I love the recurring revenue model. I don't love subscription box
model, but I love recurring revenue. I mean, I shouldn't say I don't love the subscription
box model. It just wasn't my favorite thing. I also had a business where I offered a lot of
customization and personalization. So it just ends up being a little bit problematic. But I love the
recurring revenue model for a product. So if someone signs up for something once, and they get
put on a subscription, I love that model. So for this product, we don't have that. But you could
always offer on a dog poop bag as the subscription upsell and things like that. So anyway, so 900%
markup, 90% profit margin, you can go up and down on the price a little bit as much as you want to,
but people would spend about 10 bucks on a dog poop bag holder that cost you $1 or less to
manufacture. So that is why this is a major winning product. And I would hope you would consider this
if you are starting a online store. And in particular, you're thinking of starting something
in the pet industry. It's one of the best industries. It's one of the fastest growing
industries. So there's huge opportunity for you to get a piece of the pie. Alright, my friends,
