What's happening guys? Welcome to the Drum Central YouTube channel.
It's Friday, I'm in my Drum Central t-shirt, let's get to another lick of the week.
So if you want to grab the pdf below, all will become clear.
So the lick is going to start with a five stroke roll, played 1, e, and,
it's going to be on the left foot, so right, right, left, left, left foot.
Then we're going to have one right hand on the a of 1, that's going to be our back beat.
Then the 2 is going to be a ghost note, that sounds like this.
Now after that, we're going to have right, right, left, underhand, and then right,
so that's going to be from the 2 to e and a 3.
So that whole thing sounds like this.
Sounds nice.
Now what we can do is place a bass drum on beat 1,
and then, I don't know, sort of play that on the first beat of the second bar of a 2 bar groove.
So let's try that, nice and slow, 70, sounds like this.
Sounds alright, you could even make that the whole groove like I did in the intro.
What I do like to do with this is, why don't we displace it forward,
so instead of the a being the back beat, the 2 becomes the back beat as normal,
but the whole thing shifts one 16th note.
I'm going to start it with the bass drum, so instead of right, right, left, left, left foot,
it's going to go kick, right, right, left, left, left foot, right, left, right, right, left, right.
Now the hi-hat open is now on the e of 3, sounds really nice as a sort of shorter accent.
So let's try that just on its own, no metronome.
Sounds alright, let's do the exact same thing, 1 bar groove, but now we'll displace it forward.
As with any of these sort of groove little licks and flurries that you can come up with,
why not try putting them forward one note, back one note, add an extra note here or there,
take some away, and you can create from one idea that maybe is something you saw online
on one of our hundreds of videos, and expand upon it and create something new.
Let's try it back at 100 beats a minute, and I'll try and go back and forth, so one bar
will be with it on the beat, and then a second will be with a displaced one.
I hope you guys dug that lesson, I hope it gives you some inspiration to explore some new ideas
of your own. If you did like this lesson, hit subscribe, and I'll catch you next time.
