At the time of fighting between Chu State and the Han Dynasty, Ji Bu was a general serving under Xiang Yu, who repeatedly led his troops to defeat the army of the Han leader Liu Bang. After Xiang Yu was eventually defeated and committed suicide at the Wu River, Liu Bang became the Emperor and offered a bonus of one thousand gold pieces to catch Ji Bu. He also gave an order that whoever dared to hide Ji Bu would face severe punishment, including the execution of three generations of one’s family.
