The Saving-Lives Entity (SALIENT) is a joint initiative of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Office of Disarmament Affairs- (UNODA) that allocates country-level grants to catalyse comprehensive approaches to small arms and armed violence reduction. It was established in 2020, in coordination with the Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO), and works on the principle that small arms control and armed violence reduction must be nationally led, people-centered, anticipatory and responsive.
Thanks to donor support, SALIENT is active in 8 countries: Cameroon, Ghana, Honduras, Jamaica, Kyrgyz Republic, Panama, Papua New Guinea, and South Sudan.
