Visiting Leavenworth, WA: America’s #1 Christmas Town
If you haven’t been to the Bavarian-style town of Leavenworth, WA you need to go check it out. We kicked off our holiday season with a trip to the number one Christmas town in the USA and were not disappointed.
Leavenworth is America’s South German-style town tucked in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State. Getting there took us a two hour drive east from Everett, WA on Highway 2.
Once in Leavenworth, we found FREE parking on a side road behind the visitor’s center. Alternatively, there are a lot of paid parking lots marked with a blue “P” sign all around town. The downtown core is very pedestrian friendly, and we were able to walk to everything.
Just outside of town you will find the Leavenworth Reindeer Farm, where they raise a herd of reindeer and host educational and interactive tours. We absolutely loved visiting with the reindeer and learning more about them. Our biggest tip, especially during the holiday season, is to book your visit ahead of time and book early. We were told that it is impossible to get same day tickets at the door, and many people leave disappointed when they try to show up without a booking.
At 4pm all of the Christmas lights turn on. Every single shop, hotel, restaurant, and tree is lit up to the max. We walked around town some more and then went for a German schnitzel dinner before driving back to our Boondocker’s Welcome spot in Everett. It was an amazing day in Leavenworth, WA.
