Hi, my name is Mildred Jimenez. I will be talking about Johann Kepler.
On the left side is a picture of Johann Kepler. Some background information. Johann Kepler was
born on December 27, 1571 in Wildersbach, Wolfenburg, Germany. Kepler is a very well
known German astronomer, mathematician, and astrologer. Kepler is very famous for his laws
of planetary motion, which I will talk later on about it. Kepler came to write about 26 books
during his lifetime, which included astronomy and math. Kepler was alive during the late middle
age and early renaissance. He lived from 1571 through 1630. During the time period
of the middle age early renaissance, a lot of important events took place. One of the most
important history events that happened in 1571 was called the Protestant Reformation,
which all started with Martin Luther, a major movement within Western Christianity. It would
challenge religious and political challenges to the Catholic Church. During Kepler's life at the
age of 77, another important event happened, which was called the war. The 30-year war period
started in May 23, 1618 in Central Europe, which had an estimation of 4.5 through 8 million deaths
caused due to disease or starvation, which made it around 60% of Europe's population dying.
The cause of the war started because of Catholic and Protestant forming the Holy Roman Empire.
This war would continue on for 30 days, which would get its name from ending in 1648 due to
peace of Westphalia, which set religious and political boundaries for Europe. Kepler was a
very famous mathematician during the 17th century and to this day. We also do learn about Kepler and
our math book 1 in chapter 8. Kepler is known for discovering the laws of planetary motion.
Another thing about Kepler was that he did have a partner who was named Tico. Some information
about Kepler's childhood. Kepler's mother was named Katrina and his father was Henrich.
The Kepler family was very poor and Kepler was known to be a very sick child
during his childhood years. They were also known as a branch of Christianity, which were called
the Lutheran, which Kepler decided to separate from himself from it later on, which would cause
him to be excluded century during the 13-year war, which I talked about. Kepler's education.
He went to the University of Tübingen in Germany. He earned a full scholarship with his intelligence.
He was a very smart kid growing up. When he arrived to that university, he had a different
major. Kepler's laws of planetary motion. This is what he's really famous for and really known for.
Kepler's first laws of planetary motion states that every planet has an elliptical orbit with
the sun at one of two focus of the ellipse not being centered on the diagram. You can see the
planet going around the sun. That's what the first law pretty much states. Second law explains the
planet revolves around the sun, making the planet travel faster when closer to the sun.
That's what he soon discovers. On the diagram, you can see it basically trying to calculate
the distance between the sun and the planet. Third law explains the relationship between
distance from planet to sun and the orbital. He comes up with an equation to solve that.
We learn that more in our book, in the math book that we have. Some of Kepler's accomplishments.
He helped scientists get a better understanding of astronomy. He also did help discover two new
regular polyhedra. He also did prove how logarithm worked. Kepler did help start the
scientific revolution. Kepler published Astronomia Nova, also known as A New Astronomy,
in 1609. Kepler did also write his own De Nova Stella around 1605.
Kepler also did calculate many versions of Mars' orbit using an
point. Kepler also did observe a new supernova in 1604. Here are some famous quotes of Kepler.
One of them were, nature uses as little as possible of anything. Another quote is,
I much prefer the sharpest criticism of a single intelligent man to the thoughtless
approval of the masses. And then the last slide is my work cited. It shows where I got my
information. And that will be all. Thank you, guys.
