Lando Norris was disappointed to miss out on victory at Silverstone last time out and would
dearly love to score his second F1 win this weekend in Budapest. And he laid down an impressive marker
in second practice at the Hungaroring by topping the time sheets for McLaren. He was two and a
half tenths quicker than championship leader Max Verstappen, hinting that we might get another
tense battle between the two for pole position and the win this weekend. After Ferrari went
quickest in first practice, hopes were high that the Scuderia would be contenders on race day.
But their preparations took a big hit when Charles Leclerc, third fastest in FP1, spun his car at
turn four and suffered a heavy impact into the barrier, which ended his day and brought out the
red flags. The Monagas walked away from the incident but will be left sweating about how
much damage his car sustained in the contact with the wall, with his mechanics perhaps set for a
busy night to get it ready for FP3 and qualifying on Saturday. But there was some encouragement for
Ferrari as Carlos Sainz, who topped FP1, was third in the second session. Joe Guanyu was another star
performer in first practice after going fifth fastest for Kick Salva, but he too spun at turn
four and though he avoided the barriers, he very nearly collected Sergio Perez in the process.
It was a lucky escape for Perez, who showed a much-needed good turn of pace as he ended the day
just two tenths off the pace of his Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen. Mercedes come into this
Grand Prix on a two race winning streak and Lewis Hamilton has a record eight victories at this
circuit, but the seven-time champ will need to find some speed if he's to add to that talent.
He finished the session P7, two places behind teammate George Russell. And down at the bottom
end of the timesheets, Yuki Tsunoda had a tricky session to finish P19 and did not appreciate the
hurry-up message from his V-car brace engineer as he chased a quick time late in the session.
Let's go, let's go, let's go. Don't rush me! So Lando Norris was top of the pile, followed by
Verstappen and Sainz. Perez was fourth ahead of George Russell, Kevin Magnussen and Hamilton.
Ricciardo is eighth, followed by Alex Albon with Fernando Alonso in P10. Valtteri Bottas was 11th,
followed by Logan Sargent and Oskar Piastri in the second McLaren. Esteban Ocon was next for Alpine,
ahead of Nico Hülkenberg, Pierre Gasly and Lance Strong.
Then it was Leclerc in P18, with Tsunoda and Joe rounding out the order.
