Hey everybody, welcome back to the channel. It's freezing cold here, it's on the verge of
snowing already and I've got about a two and a half hour walk up the tops to set up for a big old
snow camp. My pack is so heavy too, this might be the most winter gear I've ever packed in
for a single trip because I'm expecting it to get to like negative 15 degrees celsius
in the morning so it's gonna be cold and windy but right now priority one is just get up to the
tops and not get hypothermia so I'm gonna push on and I'll come back to you guys when I'm up there
but get ready for a good one guys, this should be fun and I'll catch up with you soon.
I'm at camp, that was a pretty decent effort, about a three hour walk, quite a lot of uphill
but I'll tuck myself in here and hopefully I'm sheltered from the
harsh winds that are coming in the morning tomorrow I think.
I've got to get my puffer jacket on fast, it's freezing up here.
All right I've got to get the tent up, I have the Hilleberg Oona for this trip and my Alton tarp.
It's an inhospitable environment up here, it's cold and the wind's just gushing over the ridge
but if I set it up correctly I should be able to get pretty good shelter so I'll get onto that now,
get everything established and a well-deserved cup of tea on after that.
The tarp, hopefully I can get this right to stop the wind coming in at me.
It's a pretty nice setup, it'll do for now, I'm getting quite a bit of shelter from the
wind coming that way and if it snows it should fall off the tent so I'm going to unpack the
bag fully and get the whole entire tent set up. I've got a massive sleeping bag man it's
going to be so luxurious. She's a big one. I've got the Nemo tent set for this trip,
should be warm enough with the massive sleeping bag extra down underneath me.
1.2 kilos at 8.50 full down. The loft on this bag is absolutely immense, look at it, it's like
thicker than my entire body. I'm going to have a cozy sleep, it's like being in the womb or you
know that's how I would imagine it minus all the moisture, it's kind of weird. And because it's
going to be particularly cold, especially tomorrow morning, I've brought the chair cover which is you
know quite a luxurious item, the Big Agnes Skyline UL. Oh man this is incredible, I have the most
amazing vistas. I probably have to pull the tarp down more because the wind is still coming through
but what a spot. I've brought two down jackets so I'm going to put it on because it's just
gotten really cold. There's little ice snow flurries coming through, not sure if you can see those
but yeah man this is rough. Two jackets though, I'll be warm even without a fire.
Whoa, oh that's better.
I know a lot of you lovely Brits got upset with the way that I made my tea in the last video
but don't worry guys, this time I'm making builder's tea. It's going to be so strong
that I can stand a spoon up in it. One of the secrets to a good cup of builder's tea is you
get the bag and you squeeze it against the side of your cup to extract all that juice.
It's not standing up yet so the secret to a good builder's tea is milk. It's not working,
come on the Brits. Damn it, I did something wrong. Okay well the spoon doesn't stand up in it
probably because you know I didn't squeeze the tea bag long enough or something.
Digestives, they are the perfect biscuit for a cup of builder's tea.
All right I'm gonna go try find some rocks and build a little rock wall to try shelter the fire
from the wind. I'm not sure how well that's going to work but I'll do it anyway because I might use
it in the morning. So we get onto that and get some firewood. I probably want a little fire
like here or something. If I can build a little barrier it'll really help with the wind
but I might need more rocks than this. Probably will. The weapon. I'm probably not even going to
have to cut any wood. There's just stuff all over the ground. There's a few dead branches here
which you can just rip them off. This stuff's just dead. Heaps of it. So much wood.
Okay I'm gonna get started. I'm breaking down some of this. It's mostly twigs so there won't
be too much chopping which is good. It's quite dry this stuff I think.
Oh man, twig city. I'm gonna finish this off. Maybe get a little bit more.
I'm pretty happy with the setup. I got quite a good wood stash. It's probably more than I'll
need. I might not even have a fire tonight because these wind gusts just keep coming through and it's
kind of unsafe. Flames just go everywhere but in the morning the freezing level is going to drop
to 500 meters above sea level. Snow everywhere hopefully and almost no wind so if I don't light
it tonight I'll definitely do it in the morning. But I think I'm just going to chill for a bit.
Relax after all that work. Maybe go for a little walk and I'll show you guys the scenery before
I do dinner and get this going if I do. But yeah, have to get the other puffer on. It's cold up here.
Cheers everybody. Oh that hot liquid's good. It's actually lovely up here.
Just the setting, being in the mountains, complete isolation.
Whoa, it's lovely. Let's go for a little walk.
Hopefully some little snow showers coming. Not holding my breath though. Definitely in the
but up here we might get a little view of the surrounds. We'll be able to see what's going on.
This is pretty stunning. Look at these mountains man. It's amazing.
Well it's rather beautiful. Brutal winds. Looks like there's some patches of cloud coming in.
Not sure if it'll snow or not but something's coming. Fire out.
It's making my eyes water. Can't stay out in this for long. I'm gonna try like this. Just a small fire and
see if my rock wall actually works. If it doesn't I'm just gonna put it out. There seems to be some
snow ice coming in this way. I think a new front's coming in. The fire actually seems to be okay.
If I keep it like really small I might be able to have a little one here.
Although it's not putting out a lot of heat. I can actually feel that. It's good.
Yeah it seems if I can keep it small like this my wind block's actually doing a really good job.
So it should be okay. Yeah there's weather coming in this way. Dark clouds. It's starting to snow.
There's ice forming on the tarp but it's more like you know sideways ice. It's not like it's
snowflakes. But yeah I'll see. I don't know. It's a bit risky with the fire. You can see the sparks
going everywhere. It's nice but I just don't think it's worth it. Yeah there's way too much wind on
that fire. The heat is amazing but look at these sparks. Probably gonna burn the tent.
I can see like snow flurries coming through behind the camera.
Oh I might get dinner on soon. I've got a wagyu steak and mashed potatoes.
Camping in like a windstorm man. It's absolutely gushing through the trees.
It's kind of snowing. I'm not sure if the camera's picking that up but these little
flakes falling down everywhere. I think it's time for dinner.
It's gonna be kind of hard to cook. Could I use the fire? Probably not. Too windy.
I have to do it on here. Everything's a bit of a mess but we'll get the situation under control.
I'm gonna get this wagyu steak on. I've got butter, garlic and mashed potato to go with it.
Actually I'll rehydrate the mashed potato first. It's just a packet of mash. Oh no now I've lost my
Man it's gonna be good. Getting into the tent's gonna be good too.
The fire's actually doing quite nicely. I'm impressed. Bushcraft skills. Subscribe for that.
We need to get to 100,000 by the end of the year guys. Half of you that watch regularly don't
subscribe. Whoa! Camera almost just blew over. It's hectic up here camping like this.
Some more wood on this fire then I'll get my steak on. A bit of snow on my steak.
It's a piece of wagyu. Yum. In here I've got some butter and garlic. Everything's shaking.
It's too much wind. Check this steak. Smells good. Give it the flip. It's when those gusts
really pick up that it becomes a problem. It's quite stressful as you could imagine.
But we're managing barely. Oh it ruptured. What a mess. Right the steak must be almost done.
Oh yeah baby. Just have to. Oh man. Gotta get all of this potato out. Doesn't look appetizing but
trust me it's legit. Time for the steak. This is like butter and garlicky. Oh let me get that
butter on there. Why not? Man the flavors in that pan. All right we're almost there. Obligatory
close-up. Can you see that? That's next level dining experience. All right I'm gonna eat this.
It looks delicious. Oh it's tender. Oh my word. The fat is so tender. The meat,
the butter and the garlic. Oh look at this. It's cutting through. Honestly as soon as you start
eating all the stress. It just, like I said in a previous video, it dissipates through the taste
hopefully these winds stay down. They kind of come and go at the moment but I just feel totally
relaxed now. Just the camera's shaking everywhere. This is one of those camps. One of the crazy ones.
I think it's time to get into the tent. I might have to go to the tarn and get a little bit more
water but yeah I'm not going to put more wood on the fire. It's too windy and yeah the windshield
must be close to, I don't know, negative five, negative ten or something. So we get some water
and get into the tent. Just listen to that wind. Those wind gusts are getting intense out there.
These trees, they're pretty strong though. I don't think they want to fall over
but it's just like an ice storm outside. Sideways, snow and ice. I walked up to the ridge, got some
water from the tarn and I'm quite sheltered down in here. It's like this full-on blizzard
like 20 meters up on the ridge that way. I want to get all these clothes off, get into the tent
and chill for a bit. I'll just lay it on top of me. Far out man. Gale force winds. I don't think I'm
going to get much sleep tonight. This down, this sleeping bag is something special. When you put
the hood over your head there's so much down encapsulating your ears that you can't really
hear anything. I love it. It's not nice out here. Back into the tent. Oh man, it's so cozy inside
I'm gonna have a great, well probably not a great sleep but I'll be warm, very warm.
Anyway guys, I'll listen to this wind and unless anything crazy happens which it almost certainly
will, I'll see you tomorrow morning. Anyway I'll catch up with you soon and good night from the
tent. Oh man, I just checked the forecast. The winds are supposed to pick up.
Good morning everybody. I didn't have a good sleep but the snow is here. It is very, very cold
but as you can see I'm cozy in this bag. It's got an armhole and just an immense amount of down.
I don't know how I'm going to get a coffee on because there's just snow blowing everywhere
but I'm happy to be here and we have a lot of white stuff falling.
Unless I'm warm in this massive bag you can clip away the inner from this tent
and make yourself room down the end so I can do my coffee in here.
It's like clouds of misty icy snow blowing around everywhere out there.
It's going to be a nightmare going outside. Trapped in the tent in snowstorm.
I have the biggest breakfast too man. A whole pack of bacon
with sourdough bagels and relish and cheese.
I can't wait. Look at this. Brewing device. These things are awesome. You can put your own coffee
into them and you can have whatever coffee you want single serve up in the bush in the storms
and you're not really compromising on your flavor quality. Well cheers everyone to the morning brew
and a blizzard on the mountain after a crazy night. I'm drooling going out there.
I don't think I can have a fire unless when the sun comes up the winds die down
but it's going to look absolutely spectacular. I opened the tent door up. The weather's kind of
easing a bit. It's mainly the winds that are the problem. If the winds can stay down then it's all
right. I'm up but I'm not dressed appropriately. It is very hostile out here these conditions man.
It's like the snow blows off the trees and it's just like full-on snow ice mist.
Oh it's rough. I might have to get back into the tent for a bit. Sort myself out. Get dressed
properly. But yeah I think there's more snow coming in as well. I wish I could get the fire
going out here. Again though we're facing the winds. We had the sun coming up. It's just incredible.
maybe I don't have to because doubling up these two is pretty warm man. I think it's probably
about 350 grams of down so maybe I don't need another one. Man I can see the sunrise from the
across the frozen wasteland. This is a pretty incredible camp spot guys. Hope you appreciate
seeing this wilderness. Not many people come up here and do this type of thing so
it's cool that I can share it with everyone. Look at that snow ice gushing through the trees
up there. I think more weather's coming in. Might need to shut the tent up again.
It's not getting better outside. In fact it's getting worse.
All right. Oh no. It's getting way worse out here. The winds must be like 70 kilometers,
80 kilometers per hour. Blowing spin drift everywhere. Completely exposed up here.
All right. I've made the executive decision to pack up inside the tent. I want to chuck all my
layers on, the warmest clothes I have and then we'll venture outside. I might have to just pack
up camp and then abandon breakfast and do it back in the cabin but yeah it's hard to capture just
how crazy it is outside. All right. I have my battle attire on. This should be warm enough to
endure out there. Maybe not the feet. I've got my gloves too so it's time to get outside the
tent I think. We're out. Oh no. My stuff's buried. Oh man. I reckon I could probably do breakfast
actually. If I use my wind guard it'll be all right but I'm definitely not going to light the fire.
That would be stupid. The frying pan. Looking forward to breakfast. The walk out's going to be
The bacon smells delicious too. I don't have a fire to tip the bacon fat onto this time
thankfully. Someone told me in the comments if you tip the fat out it crisps up the bacon
better so I'll try this strategy. Some quite nice flakes coming in. Super crispy. Relish.
The spin drifts coming in again. Now for a bit of cheese. Actually I think I'll get this bacon on
first. Just heaps. I think I earned it on this one. All right it's a bit messy. I've got to show
you guys this crispy bacon. I'm going to focus. Oh it's coming in. Oh no. This is bloody delicious
a sourdough bagel. Tomato chutney stuff and it's delicious. All right guys I'm going to finish this
off. Try tidy up. Maybe have another coffee in the tent or something. Then we've probably got to get
out of here. Whoa. I'm going to try pack some of this stuff away. Just snow going everywhere.
At least it's not wet. Everything's icy. The wetness is worse than the cold snow I reckon.
By the way this is the Alton Tarp. Held up to that storm last night. An absolute beast.
I've got an affiliate link so you guys can get one yourself and help support the channel if you want.
Highly recommend the tarp. I've used it like a hundred times.
Okay I'm going to get everything onto the pack. In the pack. Maybe take the down jacket off
and get walking and I'll come back to you guys on the GoPro. The walk out is going to be epic.
Oh man this is going to be good.
I'm so happy that I got this camp in. I really wanted a brutal snow one.
Blizzard camp. Just look at the scenery. It's incredible.
Oh man you've got to see this.
Look at those mountains. It looks like the Alps.
Oh I'm looking forward to this walk. It's going to be quite high effort but
it's going to be beautiful. What a camp though guys.
Hope you enjoyed that one. It's really hard to film in these conditions.
I can't really emphasize it enough. It's just brutal. But you get the magic man. It's all worth it.
I've got more snow coming in.
At least it's nice and cold for walking. It's quite a good snow shower coming in.
Starting to get a little bit annoying in my eyes. I should have brought glasses or goggles up.
Would have been helpful.
It's really coming in now. I'm quite sore. It's going to be quite a trudge out today I think.
But the snow is lifting my spirits massively. I mean I want this. I wait for this all year.
In summer I miss it so much and in winter every day I'm checking the forecast. I'm like
is it going to snow? And we have it. Look at it. Look at that. That's incredible.
Oh man it tastes good. Oh I need a drink. I'm like a goat.
Okay another hour through the forest. We're back at the wagon. That was a slog but an excellent
camp guys. I really enjoyed that one even though it was hard work. We got the winter blast and we
made the most of it. I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who watches the videos
and supports the channel. I'm really enjoying the videos and I hope you are too.
And for the members, thank you very much. Anyway I'm wrecked. I'm going to get home
and get in the tub but I'll see you next time. I think this is the last video before the baby comes.
But anyway, might post a pic of the baby when she arrives but that's enough from me guys.
This is probably a long video. I'll see you next time. Peace.
