Our California RV Road trip continues on the Central Coast where we stayed at Pismo Beach and day tripped from there. In our 6 days on the California Central Coast we saw an elephant seal rookery, thousands of monarch butterflies, we fed ostriches, enjoyed the beaches, and found the little mermaid in Solvang, CA. There was so much to see and do on the California Coast that we could have easily stayed the entire season.

WHERE WE STAYED:
We camped at the North Beach Campground at Pismo Beach State Beach. The campground was clean, most sites were pull-through sites, and it only cost us $25/night. There is a sani/dumping station, shower house (additional cost), and fresh water taps. All sites are dry camping without hookups. This park is popular and we would recommend reservations, especially for weekends.

Pismo Beach was centrally located for us to visit the San Simeon elephant seal rookery to the north and the Danish town of Solvang to the south, each about 45 minutes away. One of the big draws to the park for us is the butterfly grove, where thousands of monarch butterflies stay for the winter in the eucalyptus trees.
