Hey credit warriors, welcome to the show and yes, it is that time of the quarter where we show you
the new 5% cashback slash 5x points categories on the Chase Freedom for the next quarter.
If you don't know, the Chase Freedom and FreedomFlex credit cards offer 5% back on $1,500
in spending per quarter in rotating categories. And that means you can get up to $75 bonus cash
back per quarter from those categories. And that's also convertible to 7,500 Chase points.
And you can then transfer it to Chase Sapphire or Inc cards where it takes on higher value.
For example, on the Sapphire Reserve, the points are worth 1.5 cents per point. So that 5% cash
back is now effectively 7.5% cash back on your spend if you do it that way. If you transfer it
to airline partners, it could be worth even more. All right, but let's now actually talk about what
the categories are. So before we talk about the categories for quarter four, let's just very quickly
look at quarter three categories that you have two weeks left to max out. They are gas, EV charging
stations, select live entertainment and movie theaters. And you can see that on both my Freedom
cards, because I do have two, Chase allows you to do that, I haven't really maxed it out at all.
I'm about a third of the way through on one and a little less on the other. I've mostly been using
it for gas. I haven't really used any of the other categories. So I'll fill up a full gas tank and
maybe get some gas cans for my generator before the end of the month. But now let's look at what
the categories are for quarter four. And they are McDonald's, PayPal, pet shops and vet services
and select charities. Okay, so this is probably the weirdest, most random selection of categories
that I've ever seen on these cards, right? I wonder if McDonald's paid them for having a single
fast food restaurant as a category. Then we got PayPal that can actually be useful on websites
that you're shopping on. If they have a PayPal button, you can pay through PayPal to buy Christmas
gifts. For example, there's also loads of other things that you can pay for with PayPal. So I
would say, you know, in my opinion, that's probably the most useful then for pet shops and vets. Well,
my cat is due for some vaccinations. So I might as well get them done this quarter, right? And then
for charities, yeah, I don't give to charities all that often. But in the past, I have done I did use
a credit card at that time I gave away a few of my stimulus checks to charity. But just you know,
so you're aware when you use a credit card to give to charity, the charity has to pay the merchant
fees, okay, like 3%. So you're actually giving them less money if you use a credit card versus
just giving a check to a charity or giving them ACH transfer or whatever other method is available.
So just pointing that out there, you will be giving the charity less money if you use a credit
card. Alright, so those are the categories. And like I said, I think PayPal is the most useful,
that's my opinion. But you know, everyone's spending habits will vary. And don't forget,
you do have to activate them, which you can do online in your account on desktop, which looks
like this, or in the app, or at a chase ATM, there's usually a prompt that pops up on screen,
if you have a freedom card, and you're also probably going to get an email about it too,
if you're a cardholder. So those are all the possibilities of how you can activate it. Also,
if you like cashback, you should check out Rakuten. It's a cashback online shopping portal,
where you can earn extra cash back. And it's also convertible to Amex points,
on top of what you would normally earn on your credit card at many popular merchants both online
and in store. And until the end of September, they have a deal where if you sign up through
my link below, and make a purchase over $30 at any one of the stores on their site,
you get $30 bonus cash back in your account for free offer ends September 30. So do be quick link
is below. But that's it for the video today. Please subscribe to the channel if you're new
guys and we'll see you in the next one. Bye bye
