I'm Ali from Mint Customs and this is our Ducati Street Tracker.
So I've brought the Ducati down to Bike Shed to show off to you guys and to leave it here
for a few weeks so everyone can see it in the flesh. The bike was built about two years ago
and we had it at the Tobacco Docks show in 2017 and during that year we also rode it
at the Mallee Mile. I did the sprint race and the hill climb on it. Not with great success
but it wasn't really designed for riding off-road up a hill. There's lots of things to talk about
with this bike so let's take you around it. Okay so I'll talk you through all the parts of this
bike. We're going to start at the front and work our way back. Now there's been a few adaptions
with this bike. When I first built it I had my number board for flat track racing from the DTRA
which looked really cool on the front of this bike but since then it has been used on the road
and occasionally when we lose our daylight. So I decided to bring daylight back with
an abundance, an entire rack of lights on the front. So we've got a couple of floodlight bars,
the big 12 at the top and the 6 at the bottom. This was actually started by being an attempt
to see which one I would like and I decided to leave them both on there. I had the twin spots
originally. These are really cheap items and they're not that great and they don't illuminate
that well hence the add-on with the LEDs. But just below them we've got a mudguard. I've not
seen much of mudguards in the custom world these days. This mudguard is from RSR Moto I think.
It's a matte finish and I just love it. It's carbon fibre, matte finish. It's for an Aprilia
RSVR as are my front forks. So the front end is RSVR Aprilia generation 1 so they're Ohlins.
Strapped down the bottom there we can see we've got the Maxxis Shod KTM Supermoto rims because
I wanted spoke wheels for this and it was all about budget really. So I found these on line
on auction and got them for a good price and then just had our machinist Craig make sure that they
would fit the spindle and line up the brakes and everything else. So yeah KTM wheels so I've got
the spoke look. Maxxis Supermoto wets that give the track a look. The rear tyre gives the track
a look much better which you'll see shortly. So coming further up to the top I've got the
Rentwolf Fat Bars which just fill you with confidence. They're nice and solid. You know
they're a brand you can really relate to for reliability and strength and everything because
I have been known to do a couple of wheelies every now and again. So I wanted some nice
heavy duty stunt bars on it. Top yoke, C&C yoke. That's a Ducati item and I bought that just
because it was in a bargain bin and it was too much of a bargain to miss up. I think I literally
paid like £30 for it and it looks much nicer than the original yoke from the old front end.
Moto Gadget little mini speedometer and all of the idiot lights are built into that so that
works nicely. As we drop from the front end into this area here the petrol tank is from a Ducati
1098 and the 848 they use the same tank and there's a void here which needed filling because
that's where the ignition key would be on a 1098 and there's an infill that goes there but it
wouldn't match this frame. So I built a little dash if you like and then inlaid this. Now don't
film too close down because it was painted and it wasn't powder coated and it's been on here for a
while so it was one of the things I need to clean up but this dash is fabulous. It's my on off switch
so my kill switch which is here so literally flick that into the on position my start button here and
then these two are my lights so that's lights on standard and then for the high beam so that's nice
and keeps the bars nice and clean. Talking about the bars or referring back to the bars I have
changed my levers to Adeline master cylinders for both clutch and brake. I believe they're
they might be Taiwan as opposed to China but I've gone through a few different master cylinders over
the years and these are the closest thing to Brembo's without the massive Brembo price tag
so and they've worked really well they're lovely work really nice and look good. Moving down the
right so as I mentioned a moment ago the tank is of the 1098 and 848 range and so is this little
shroud that goes around here so that's from that the frame itself is actually from a Ducati ST2.
When I got the bike this is actually based on a an SS the engine is a 900 SS
ie version and the 2002 and the frame that I had with that bike was dented so there was no
keep in that so I just went for affordability for what the engine would drop into and picked up an
ST2 frame with V5 happy days. Obviously it's been modified somewhat so if we move around the back
you'll notice the tail unit isn't standard whatsoever it's a it is a generic item of a
flat tracker item but it's been heavily modified at the back of this frame because the biggest
notice and the biggest reason for the modifications is our twin shock here more than the seat unit.
This engine and this frame would have both had a monoshock but they weren't a compatible monoshock
so subsequently I wanted to do a twin shock anyway we chose to do a twin shock conversion
so that was a little bit of a scratch in the head for quite a while and due trial and error
both getting the angle and trying to work out what the what the reaction would be for
the weight of shocks and and just how it would feel and would it be stable enough
because obviously it wasn't a tried thing. The swing arm is standard 900 SS so it goes with
the engine. We have modified it and taken the top torsion bar off because we've got the
the the twin shock so it gives it much more support. A few other things have been added
just like the paddock stands and stuff. Rear tyre as I said earlier on we're talking about the front
the rear does have more of a tracker look than the front one. It isn't a flat track tyre but it's a
supermoto wet and they do look fabulous on these and they handle quite well as well.
Won't last very long you give it too many beans when it's dry and it is a bit too soft.
Moving to the very tail end the the masterpiece this is a Dan Motto GP can so the rear silencer
that is the rest of it to get to there had to be built and these engines have a twin exhaust
so I've chopped off one of the outlets welded that up and then Simon built the rest of it
with various odds and sods we had laying around the workshop to make it fit snugly up in here
and we've even got a Ducati heel guard that would normally be on the rear sets
under here then you can see it down but on the side as the the mount for the exhaust pipe which
was a nice little touch it's completely out of sight and nobody notices it that's why we have
to point it out but I quite like that. Side number plate hanger with a generic off the
shelf little LED tail light. One of the things I haven't mentioned which is more of the middle
of the bike since we swing back round to the front is the foot pegs now these are a nice
aftermarket enduro foot pegs you've got a nice big slab to stand on but the hangers are actually
from an ST and 900 SS and so on but they're rear hangers they're not front hangers so
popping these onto the front wasn't a major issue everything's spaced out okay and and so on and
it gives me a nice bit of clearance for my levers but over on the gear lever side it does mean that
gear lever is not coming off of the actual rear sets so I'm running more of a motocross style
connection which does mean that I'm now reverse shift so this is running race shift so instead
of one down five up I'm one up five down which I can handle people are a little bit wary of it
they're not used to it but I had a race bike that was like that once so it doesn't take too much
you do have to think about it a little bit especially when you're on the roads but but
it works quite well and adds to the whole look of the bike with this clear
area around the the foot pegs and obviously the big chunky platforms for your feet so yeah
certainly helps there the engine's got a few carbon fiber covers all off the shelf stuff
once again from RSR Moto same as the front fender so the the belt covers here and here
front fender and sprocket cover I think that's all I've got from them in carbon fiber
and I think we're getting quite close to emphasizing everything on it obviously there's
there's loads of little things lots of little bespoke stuff that's been done
to make it all actually come together but those are like the key solid elements it's
hilarious fun to ride it wheelies nicely which is what it's all about and it turns heads the
the paint job the green I don't know how well it'll come out for you guys but this is
I think it's about 1978 Porsche green which I'm a bit of a Porsche man myself so I really like it
it's a bit marmite as many things in the custom in the custom platform are but this was built
for me by me and I had a render done of the bike beforehand and even told them the colors
and when he put the green on it I said it's not quite the green I want so we've got it as close
as we could before actually finding the real one in the flesh so yeah we've got a an old English
white with the Porsche green on a gloss white frame white frame is something we did quite a
bit at Mint Customs we may be starting to move away from that at the moment but uh but yeah
and that is my Ducati ST street tracker playing on the frame's name anything left to do is take
it outside and start it up for you okay so before we do the startup for you we thought we'd quickly
show you the left hand side of the motorcycle relocated the ignition tucked in over here
you can see the air pod down here we lost the air box under the tank when we did the conversion
so there's a lot of stuff going on under there so we've got one of them poking out down here
looks quite good sticking out and then further along what I mentioned earlier on when we were
inside the rear the gear shifter has a connecting rod on the standard system with the rear sets but
because we've used pillion peg sets to hold the foot pegs we had to run a more motocross style
gear linkage so this was made up here and that's inevitably left me using race shift so one up and
five down not really much else to say about the motorcycle now other than to start it up and let
