Hi everyone, I wanted to record another short clip on some career guidance that I would give to
someone in this trying COVID situation that we're all in. And one of the points in order to kind of
help yourself and invest yourself right now is to turn your commute time into non-negotiable time.
So for those that know me and have been following me, you'll know of my concept of non-negotiable
and that's the time that you spend dedicated to yourself, a meeting with the most important person
there is, yourself, the CEO of your life. And blocking that time off throughout the week,
ideally throughout the day, in order to work on those personal and professional development goals
that you've always wanted to but you've been putting it off and saying, I'll do that tomorrow,
I'll do that next week, next month, and then years later it doesn't get done. So treat this as an
opportunity as a bit of a gift in that the 10 minutes, the one hour door-to-door or whatever
you used to use for your commute, take that as your new non-negotiable time. So if you were
commuting from 8 to 9 in the morning, then taking that hour to invest in yourself. Now some of you
are already doing that where you might have been reading a book on the GoTrain or you might have
been listening to podcasts in the car, but now you can be a little bit more purposeful on that
and there's more versatility during that time. So you can spend that time in an online course,
you can spend that time reconnecting with loved ones, with colleagues, with friends, you can spend
it on a personal project in order to develop that skill so that you can put it as a bullet point on
your resume. But whatever you do with that time, make sure that it's an investment in you, that
it's something that you can use to kind of set yourself up for success when all of this subsides
and all this passes. So what I encourage you to do is to take that commute time and turn it into
non-negotiable time, time for yourself, and then even after all this subsides is to take some of
that non-negotiable time and continue having that in your day. Whether it reduces because you have
kind of two commutes in the morning and the afternoon, but you might want to just change it to
kind of a morning or an evening ritual, but make sure that you still have that consistent
investment in yourself, your own personal and professional development as well. So that's a tip
that I would have for those dealing with this particular crisis is to turn your commute time
into non-negotiable time as an investment in yourself. So that's some swipe, the stuff I
wish I knew earlier, and I hope you have a great rest of the day.
