Hi everyone, I wanted to record a short video as a few words of encouragement to the students and
for everyone in these challenging times. So I was asked by a couple folks that I interact with
on what sort of advice and guidance would I have for someone during these trying times and
an expression comes to mind, this too shall pass. So a little bit of a story, when I graduated
there's a lot of turmoil that happened so 9-11 happened and what that did was ended up grounding
all sorts of air transport and travel and shortly thereafter the dot-com bubble burst
which kind of sucks when you graduate with a computer science job and then the SARS, the
precursor to COVID happened and there's a very uncertain time there.
But as I reflected back on that time, it was an opportunity for me to kind of retool myself and
figure out well what could I do when I'm stuck at home or unable to find work or whatever it is that
I'm looking to do and what I tried to do is improve myself either by reading books, reconnecting with
friends and acquaintances and it was reconnecting with a friend that led me to kind of my first job
after graduation and then figuring out how could I actually leverage this time instead of being
fearful of this time and manage to get myself a little better. So what I encourage you to do is to
take the time to read books, to learn skills, to reach out to friends and acquaintances, to text
them, to chat with them, to reconnect with them and use this time of fear in order to develop better
relationships with other people around you and a better relationship with yourself. So I encourage
you to use this as an opportunity to get even better. So I hope that was a few good words
of encouragement and just remember that this too shall pass. Take care and have a great rest of the day.
