Well, things got a little tricky on our off-road motorcycle adventure to Guerro Negro in Baja Norte on the 90 mile dirt and sand road...
Well it turned out this was only the beginning. It seemed that any way we would have spun it
we weren't going to make it to Cuero Negro that day. We thought we were just taking a
quick little jaunt but this was only the beginning of what was to come.
Yes. Can you throw what?
I've got bungee cords galore. Hey Andres too honey, you lost your um, we got it.
We got your cover. You probably hit them down here too.
I think that's easy. Oh you got it perfect, thank you.
If you got your gas you got that.
We rode further down this amazingly remote sand road until suddenly we came across Andres again.
The battery is dead on it, I can't start it.
I have a jumper but in my bike. And I have it in my truck for sure. I'm sure John has got jumper.
What do you need? What's going on? I think we just need to check because there's like no
no power whatsoever. It's like it's even the cable is off but the battery is totally flat.
And you can't start it or anything. I was just thinking I'd like to move a little bit.
First task get to the battery but on this KLR you need tools to open the seat to get to the battery.
That's so strange that the seat doesn't just pop off.
Andres and John did some futzing around to get to the battery and quite frankly I wasn't totally
following along. But what I did know was we were certainly in the middle of nowhere.
No cell service, no people or towns nearby.
Just five people and a dog in the middle of the hot desert having an adventure.
No power? You want to come and have a chain on?
What happened? I mean are you charging this? Yeah but not now I just tried and now there
seems to be no battery. I can get that one Donald. I'll get the big one.
We have electrical things in here. Wow all these guys. Oh well organized as well.
So we hung out while we waited to see if the battery would charge.
And while we were in the middle of nowhere even surrounded by jumping cactuses.
This is this is it? This is it. See these little balls. Oh it's those guys.
Geez they're kind of big. Well they can be really like little like this one.
Even the ones that are down? Yes those are the ones that get him.
All that mattered was we're in good company and having fun.
As soon as we take it off.
Good thing Fran was experienced in this area because he knew how to tow
a motorcycle. I thought you're going. I do. I just have it wrapped around his
thing stand on. I want something that comes on down quickly. How about something like that?
Steel. Here's another one. Good thing John has all the tools.
Now for the last part of this journey let's see if we can get ourselves the boys in tow
and a dead bike out of the desert and back home. Give me. You can do it.
Toys and adventure. We're gonna be going very slowly. This is an important task to learn.
This is a bad place to be stuck. Yeah. Nobody wants to push a bike out of here.
A break? How's it been? How are you doing? He's doing good. Yeah? He did fall one time but he's
he comes on this side that's when he falls.
Sorry that was so dumb.
Yeah. Oh wow. Easy peasy. Good. I'll put that.
Actually I'll just put it with you there. Okay. Thank you. Pick up some stuff for for dinner.
Well I'll do my part. I'll drink one now.
Hi dad.
Who else? Hey nice driving. We made it. I mean when you think about it where else can you have
that much more fun for 20 bucks? Come on. That ---- was fun. Yeah. That's an adventure. There
are a lot of elements to today. It was good. And every little piece like the fact that they were
they came along too was pretty clutch. Yeah that was cool. Thank god they did right? That was the
thing about today. So many things didn't go as we hoped. We never made it to Guerronegro.
We crashed. We broke down. Threw in the towel. Lost a license plate and got towed.
But at the same time we also had an unexpected support crew. A car full of water, snacks, the
right tools and right people with the right skills every step of the way. Compared to what it could
have been it was truly a breeze. And at the end of the day looking back it felt almost as if there
was a perfection woven into every moment that led up to now. So we got back to camp, put on our
cozies and proceeded to have one of the most glorious fun-loving feasts ever. Sitting around
the table I couldn't help but wonder how is it so that this perfect group of strangers feels
so much like family. Couldn't feel more happy and I can't believe I have this crew to ride with.
There are some elements to my setup that aren't the best for like real real heavy off-road riding.
