Perhaps best translated as 'harmonic fantasy' or 'whim', L'Estro armonico is the title of Vivaldi's first published collection of concertos. Published in Amsterdam, not Italy, by Estienne Roger in 1711, the collection of twelve concerti was dedicated to Ferdinand de Luna. It was dedicated to Ferdinando de' Medici of Florence. He was one of the most important patrons of the girls' orphanage in Venice, where Vivaldi taught music for much of his career.
In fact, it is at the Ospedale della Pietà that the concertos would have been played for the first time by the girls and by Vivaldi himself. Roger's publication circulated widely in Europe and was reprinted twenty times over the next few decades. Other editions in London and Paris, as well as pirate copies, made Vivaldi's concertos some of the most influential music of the period, alongside that of Corelli.
This beautiful river was captured on video near Jaun, Switzerland by Christian Schlegel and the video was edited by Wenjing Ma.
