Hoji's Backyard: Skiing The Canmore Couloir

Where are you thinking of skiing tomorrow? Right where my finger is. I haven't skied the one we're looking at Chris has, but yeah, it's been probably 10 or so years since we've been up there. Who is it? It's Eric and a bunch of other guys around here. Sunrise is at 7. We leave here at 5. Two hours up the back. Should be up there for first light. Then we'll be in position to go and assess the S shoot. We're still doing it! We're still doing it. Yeah, the last time we were up here we still had potential. Yeah, 10 more couloir. 10 more couloir. Looks like they've got their skis in their packs and their boot packing up. Yeah, buddy. You know, I've got all sorts of confidence in their skiing ability, but everyone has to make a lot of decisions out there regarding the snow pack. What do you think guys, thinking about crossing over here? That's the tough part. That's just kind of variable, like it feels good here. I mean really it's a wind skin, but it goes into a kind of thick hard slab. Underneath. Yeah, I don't think the skiing is going to be very good. It's kind of neat to be able to see what he does, but it's nerve wracking at the same time. It's going to be tricky to ski here. I don't know, I don't really know how we're going to do it. I prefer to watch the movie afterwards. It's less stressful. Oh yeah, back in the Rockies, baby. Eric once told me if your knees aren't shaking, it doesn't make the movie. Getting humbled. Getting up here. This thing is radical. Are your knees shaking? Yes. Maybe it'll make the movie. I don't think so. I just am on like a rock bend that's just disintegrating every step. So close. Classic Rockies. Wouldn't be the Rockies if we got to the top. It's so sad. But so awesome, look at this thing. So awesome, what a spot. Who's going first? It's like you are. This is what happens when you get old, you just ski stupider stuff slower. Oh, a straight line. That's intense. I don't know if I have that one in me. I think you got it, man. I don't know about this next one. Pretty barely straight line. There you go. You just guide walked your way down. Yeah, buddy. Okay. Yeah, buddy. That was sick. It's nice to see their adventurous spirit. Yeah. You know, that's really a big part of life. Yeah, buddy. That was awesome. Yes, sir. So good. What a place. Did we just glide right to my parents house? There you go. Up there. Oh, we got to take our skis off. So good. 10 more breakfast special. Wanted to ski that for a long time.
