It is raining right now and I am soon heading south and I am leaving for a new county, Honghe County. Honghe County is built on the mountaintop because the latitude is very low. So the city is built on the mountaintop for its cool climate. The ticket is 23 yuan and it's about 1 hour ride. Also I want to say that Honghe County is not the only county that locates on the mountaintop. In fact all the 3 cities, Yuanyang, Xinjie, Lucheng as well as Honghe County, they are quite similar. Honghe County is also one of the least developed regions in China. It was only lifted out of poverty line in 2020 if I remember clearly. So if you look at those buildings, you can't really tell. Not all of them are in very good condition. Some of them don't have painted facades. Some of them have very broken windows. The old name of Honghe County is called Yisa. Yisa in Yi language means a place with water scarcity. Perhaps because it's on a mountaintop. And this city was developed because of caravan trade. And on this mountaintop, now this is the fortress built by Ma Bang, the caravan. It's all made of stones. Very different from other traditional Chinese stone buildings that is built with wood. It's all stone, so it's very, very solid. There are valleys on both sides of Honghe County. Here and there. And on that side, that's Yuanjiang. In the valley, it's very hot and very humid, especially in the summer. I was there once. I was in the neighboring Yuanyang County in summer. Oh, it was very unbearable. But here it's quite cool. It was a very important city on the ancient caravan road. It's a trading road that prospers in Qing Dynasty. Caravan is the trading group. Now I have already reached another county, Yuanyang County, Xingjie Town. And I'm so excited because I got myself a very luxurious hotel room. It's 144 yuan, but I've got a super spacious room. This is my bathroom. It's very nice and clean. And I've got myself a king sofa for work. And this hotel locates right in the middle of the town. And you can see the beautiful sunset. Very similar to Honghe County, Yuanyang Xingjie Town is also on the mountaintop. But what's different is that Yuanyang Xingjie Town is very green, very lush. And also it's more moist. And it's called a city above the cloud. Because as long as the weather is good, when you wake up in the morning, you will see that the whole city is above the cloud. It's very spectacular. And I've just checked the weather report. They said it will be sunny tomorrow. So I'm so looking forward. But this night, I'm going to show you this lovely center square. And the beautiful sunset. There is very limited space in the mountain town. However, in the middle of the town, there is a big square. And it turns very lovely at night. This is just so cool. And I found all those inflated playgrounds. I love it so much. That's the figure from Journey to the West. Tang San, the Monkey King and Zhu Bajie. In the morning, there is nothing here. And all those playgrounds are set up at night. And here there are some more playgrounds. It's so lively. But if you are living in that hotel, it might be a bit noisy at night. Because it's a banquet and open-air in the main street. And it's 4 km long. So I would highly recommend that you visit Luchun as well. This is a traditional food called It's made of white rice and then grilled until it turns soft. This rice cake has a natural sweetness. And you can also see the particles because the rice is red. I've tried it before and I really like it. Tastes very different from for example Tieguanyin and also the typical Lvcha in Anhui. So here a group of women they are selling their hand-sewed handmade embroidery. Those patterns are much more beautiful than the machine-made ones and they're also quite pricey. Eat here. You can also get some soup. It's a vegetable soup and I think it's mi tang and some pickled vegetables.
