EF1 tornado rips through Delaware with peak wind speeds of 95 mph

drone six flew over some of the damage caused by that confirmed tornado the touchdown near Marshon Delaware last night officials say it was on the ground from more than a mile with Winds near a 100 miles an hour people at a nearby shopping center captured some of that tornado on camera before it blew off parts of a an Acme roof action news reporter Brianna Smith live in mil Creek tonight Brianna boy a lot to clean up there today that's right Brian it's going to take days to remove the mess especially here on West forino Drive earlier today we saw this home homeowner cleaning up after the tornado ripped off sections of her roof and then her entire backyard fence you can see parts of it laying on the ground and then just across the way you can see this gigantic tree split in half and then unfortunately landed on three cars you may be able to see some of those cars under the branches and then just to make matters worse hundreds of people are without power one resident quickly captured video of the tornado as it tore through mil Creek Delaware the National Weather Service says the ef1 tornado touched down in marshalton with peak wind speeds reaching 95 mes hour it was just flattened everything was picked up twirled and then you know and thrown Glenda Sterling who lives on West Rino Drive in mil Creek says the powerful storm destroyed her backyard and parts of her house including the roof but God is good it'll all get worked out everything I'll get a new roof I'll get a new fence and new windows the tornado also knocked down trees trees that landed on houses these four vehicles in power lines sometimes you're watching it on TV and saying wow you know they're across the country and you're feeling for people you know in whatever state but now when it hits home of course it's hitting home a little bit you know closer to the heart the Del Marva power spokesperson says about 2500 customers in Newcastle County lost service we know how frustrating uh you know and difficult it can be to be without service especially during the summer months I just appreciate everyone's patience as we continue to work through the restoration efforts today the company along with local leaders say they'll continue to monitor the remnants of Debbie while restoring power and neighborhoods so far we're very thankful we in the county are committed to making sure some of the tree uh damage and things like that is taking care of we assist private homeowners to make sure they have bad luck we help them out yeah again a lot to clean up here and the Newcastle County Executive urges residents to call the emergency management office if they have any questions or see damage or unsafe conditions and as for those power outages Del Marva power expects to return most of the service by midnight tonight and the rest by tomorrow morning live in mil Creek Brianna Smith Channel 6 Action News Brian yeah they're moving as quickly as they can Brianna thank you
