Dr. Michael Hasel, director of Archaeology at Southern Adventist University, recently announced the find of an ivory comb from 1700 BCE inscribed with plea to stop lice. The comb contained a complete sentence using an early Canaanite alphabet.

As featured in the New York Times, CNN, and Jerusalem Post, Dr. Hasel shared the story of discovery, fascinating history, and historical impact of a 2x3 cm comb found in Lachish, Israel.

Though the inscription “May this tusk root out the lice of the hair and the beard” is not a dramatic, epic tale, the inscription will rewrite our understanding of the history of this time period.
