Interim President and CEO Jeff Hudson shares last month's end-of-month updates with us.

We currently shelter over 500 precious children at our three locations: Union Rescue Mission, on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles; Hope Gardens in the San Fernando Valley, and Angeles House in South Los Angeles. We can only do this because of you, our faithful donors.

And because of you, these 500 little blessings , can have hope for something better. In fact, July has been a spectacular month for our kids at URM to experience hope, love, and fun—and to just be a regular kid!

For URM kids, July means Camp Pondo! Camp Pondo is a unique camp in the San Bernadino mountains created to encounter Jesus. It's Gospel-driven, transformational, and crazy fun! Our kids had a blast zip lining, swinging on a giant swing, hiking, swimming, playing soccer, fellowshipping, and attending Chapel and Bible study. Our kids have new memories to treasure for life.

July also provided great memories for our families, singles, and seniors! They all enjoyed 4th of July celebrations including BBQ, root beer floats, and fellowship— sponsored by Living Hope Community Church—who sent teams of volunteers to love on and pray for our beloved guests.

Like I said, July was spectacular, but I’ve saved the best for last… Christmas in July!! Our beautiful Hope Gardens was transformed into a winter wonderland for our beloved children! The kids had a “merry” time sledding on 26 tons of snow (yes, snow in July!), and enjoying carnival games, bounce houses, a water slide, a dunk tank, and of course, Santa Claus! We extend a heartfelt thank you for the generous support of Roberts Home & AV and Wienerschnitzel.

Shout out to St. Matthews Music Guild that through the LA Philharmonic provided an ensemble group for our families to listen to Latin music at Hope Gardens. We’re so grateful to St. Matthew’s!

Keeping our kids in mind while looking ahead…we’re having a Back to School Uniform and Supplies Drive!

We’re in need of school uniforms, backpacks, plastic water bottles, lunch boxes, and school supplies, such as, spiral notebooks, markers, pens, pencils, sticky notes, and a whole lot more. Please contact our Gifts in Kind representative Rebeka at 213-673-4875 or [email protected] for the full list of needed school uniforms and supplies. The DEADLINE is AUGUST 5!

Your support means the world to our families, singles, and seniors devastated by homelessness. From the bottom of my heart, God bless you and thank you!
