1-Minute vs 30-Minute Vegan Meal (High Protein)

I need to make all this chili pasta in 30 minutes,
these tempeh BLTs in 15 minutes,
and both of these Caesar salads in just one minute.
Or else, I'm going to need to hold a plant
for as long as it takes this cat to get its treat.
Come on, dude.
Not only are these meals lightning fast,
easy, and delicious,
but they're also packed with plant protein.
All right, so up first, we're making a savory Caesar salad.
And to prove that anybody can make this in under a minute,
this is actually the first time
that I'm going to be going through this entire recipe.
One of our team's amazing dieticians, Taylor,
created all of these meals.
So wish me luck and start the timer now.
A quarter of the mixed greens.
These greens are a great source
of your daily vitamin K for bone health.
Now, let's keep going.
We got matchstick carrots, one cup.
Break tofu into half-inch chunks.
Half cup of roasted chickpeas.
Chickpeas are a great source of iron.
You got some extra ones in there.
Now we're going to add a fourth of a cup of some dressing.
Wow, it's doesn't even come out.
All right, that was,
I think we're going to have to call that fail.
All right, let's go.
One cup of matchstick carrots, tofu, half-inch blocks.
Half cup of roasted chickpeas.
And then we're going to do dressing.
Taste test time.
It's quite good.
Could have made the dressing a little bit more uniform
through the whole thing.
Yeah, as far as one-minute meals go,
I think that would be pretty hard to beat.
We made two servings of this in under a minute.
So technically this is like a 30-second meal.
Man.
So each of these servings clocks in at 430 calories
and 25 grams of plant protein.
This meal is also a really great source
of two important bone-supporting nutrients,
which are vitamin K and calcium.
And each serving of this meal provides more than half
of the vitamin A that you need for the day,
thanks to the carrots and the greens.
So to keep this meal super easy and lightening fast,
you'll notice that we used pre-made tofu and chickpeas.
And that's because it's just a great practice
to have healthy, fast options available
so you can make quick, healthy meals
instead of reaching for junk food.
It's actually been a while since I bought this tofu
and I realized I need to start buying it again
because it has a really great flavor.
And also these chickpeas are a super awesome snack.
So next up, if you have 15 minutes on your hands,
you can make our next meal, which is tempeh BLT sandwiches.
So this recipe makes four sandwiches,
which is four servings,
and we're gonna be making our tempeh from scratch.
But if you wanna save even more time,
you can use pre-made and pre-seasoned tempeh bacon.
So once again, this is the first time I'm making this.
In fact, this is probably the first time
I'm ever making a BLT.
That's not something I eat
because I'm not a huge fan of tomato.
So let's start the timer in three, two, one, go.
All right, step one, open one package of tempeh.
Slice into quarter-inch thick slices.
That's easy enough.
All right, in a shallow container,
add three tablespoons of tamari.
Now we're gonna add one tablespoon of maple syrup,
one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar,
one teaspoon of liquid smoke.
Uh-oh, come on, get out of here.
A generous sprinkle of garlic powder and paprika.
Generous.
Add the tempeh slices, put on a lid, shake to coat.
400 degrees for eight minutes.
Cut two tomatoes into slices.
Let's wash these first.
How do you even cut a tomato?
So I need to toast two slices of Davis Killer bread,
eight slices total.
Okay, now I'm realizing I need to go a little faster.
Six and a half left?
Holy, are you serious?
What have I been doing?
Eight large leaves.
One, two, cut, open, one avocado.
All right, let's do that.
Can I just, can I do four slices?
There we go, sweet!
Okay, now what do you do?
Crap.
Sure.
Wow, that's pretty hot.
All right, we did it!
Not really a fan of tempeh or tomatoes,
so let's see what taste test.
Yeah, I actually do not like the B, the L,
or the T in this.
Each one of these sandwiches comes in at 455 calories
and 25 grams of plant protein.
Each sandwich is also packed with 19 grams of dietary fiber,
which is over half of the recommended daily intake.
So obviously, I don't really like tomato,
but if you do, then I'm sure you're gonna love this meal.
And for our final meal, if you have 30 minutes,
then you can make our chili pasta.
Now, I know that 30 minutes might sound
like a really long time,
especially since our first meal took just one minute,
but actually, we're gonna be making 10 whole servings
of chili pasta.
And this is a super freezer-friendly meal,
so you can either feed the whole family
or you can store these up to a month in your freezer
and have them on the go whenever you want.
This is my first time making it,
so I don't know what to expect,
but we're gonna get started in three, two, one, go!
All right, bring a large pot of water
to a boil for the pasta.
All right, dice two red onions.
Wow, I already feel this on my eyes.
Gonna start crying for all of you.
So, fun fact, onions contain compounds
that can increase your iron absorption,
so it's worth all the tears.
Next, dice three medium carrots.
Dice three bell peppers.
Three boxes, is that real?
So, the reason we're using chickpea pasta
is it adds more fiber, protein, and some other nutrients.
Good, third of a cup of tomato paste.
Ooh, that, a fourth cup of taco seasoning.
Oh, two, oh, ooh, I did the wrong order.
I shouldn't, I wasn't even thinking.
Obviously, onions are gonna go in there first.
I just literally added straight-up taco seasoning
to a bowl that's on a plane.
Literally, I have no culinary background.
You can multitask.
Nice and sauteed.
Oh, I got so many cans to open.
Oh, that's looking good.
Drain and rinse the beans.
All right.
All right, let's dice some cilantro.
We need a cup of cilantro.
Get the pasta in there.
This is gonna be a brick.
Oh, a little messy now.
I feel like I'm a lunch lady.
Just like, splat, here's your grub, kid.
News for everyone, there's a little fairy dust.
All right, there we go.
Done.
All right, where are we at?
Okay, I guess I could have been a little cleaner, but.
Time for a taste test.
Chili pasta, sounds pretty good.
Let's see if it lives up to the hype.
Pretty good.
I'd probably use a little bit more taco seasoning.
It's got good flavors.
Tastes really hearty.
I actually love that the carrots are not overcooked.
Like, they've got a little meat to them.
Little vegan meat.
So again, you can take these, throw them in a freezer.
I literally just made 10 meals in 30 minutes,
so I could put all of these into the freezer
and then just grab and go for lunch at work
or whatever I want.
And all you need to do is take it out,
let it defrost a little bit,
throw it into the microwave, warm it up, and that's it.
So on average, each of these containers
contains 456 calories and 28 grams of plant protein.
This meal is also packed with a ton of B vitamins
because this nutritional yeast is fortified.
So that's a really great addition
to a bunch of different savory meals
to increase the nutrition profile.
This meal is also a really great source
of immune-supporting nutrients like zinc and vitamin C.
Cilantro is good.
Nutritional yeast makes everything good.
And it's hearty.
I love chili.
All right, anything else?
Well, it's been a while, so I'm gonna get a plane.
Come on, little guy.
Is that it?
You got the treat?
