The hottest topic today is who will be the Democratic nominee for president, after President Biden dropped out of the presidential race?
This is a rather complicated issue, and we will discuss it at some length.
But until then, let's take a look at some other news.
Last week's riots in Bangladesh have taught us that force is often not the most effective way to resolve conflicts.
It seems that the Russian-Ukrainian war could be resolved peacefully.
Hello all you freedom-loving people. Welcome to another episode of Front Page. I'm your host,
Scott Cameron Goulet. The hottest topic today, of course, is who will be the democratic nominee for
president after President Biden dropped out of the presidential race. This is a rather complicated
issue and we will discuss it at some length, but until then let's take a look at some other news.
Last week's riots in Bangladesh have taught us that force is often not the most effective way
and it seems that the Russian-Ukraine war could be resolved peacefully. Okay, let's get into it.
The Bangladesh government's quota system for civil service positions sparked a student protest
movement last week that led to riots across the country. This resulted in more than 100 deaths.
The Supreme Court on Sunday struck down the controversial rule. The controversy has now
been put to rest. The Bangladesh civil service quota system has long been criticized. It excludes
other qualified candidates and if a designated candidate fails the recruitment test, there will
be a vacancy. At present, 56% of government jobs are reserved for specific groups, of which 30%
are reserved for the descendants of freedom fighters who fought in the 1971 Bangladesh
liberation war. Even though job opportunities have grown in some parts of the private sector,
many people prefer government jobs because they are seen as more stable and lucrative. However,
these positions are not enough. Every year about 400,000 graduates take the civil service examination
competing for about 3,000 positions. Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government abolished
the civil service quota system in 2018, but a lower court reinstated it last month and set the
total quota at 56%. Students were outraged by this and a nationwide riot ensued. The demonstration
was the largest since Hasina was re-elected as Prime Minister for the fourth time this year.
Unemployment among young people who make up nearly one-fifth of the population is currently high.
Over the past week, demonstrators threw bricks and burned cars. The police responded by shooting
tear gas, rubber bullets and throwing flashbulbs. Authorities have closed universities and colleges
since last Wednesday. On Friday, Hasina's government announced a nationwide curfew
across Bangladesh and ordered the deployment of military forces to maintain order and commanded
the army to shoot straight if necessary. Although no official casualty figures were released,
Reuters reported at least 114 deaths and the AFP reported as many as 151. Internet and SMS
services in Bangladesh have been suspended since last Thursday. This leaves the country paralyzed.
Overseas phone calls are mostly unreachable while websites of Bangladeshi media are not updated
and social media accounts are inactive. John Heidemann, the Chief Scientist of the Networking
and Cybersecurity Division at USC said, to take a country of nearly 170 million people
off the internet is a drastic step. One we haven't seen since the likes of the Egyptian
Revolution of 2011. It was the Supreme Court's decision that finally put the protests to rest.
The Supreme Court directed the government to have 93 percent of the government jobs
be open to candidates on the basis of their personal qualifications without any quotas.
The job quota for the families of independent fighters was reduced to five percent and the
remaining two percent was reserved for the underprivileged groups and the disabled.
Calm quickly returned to the streets around the Supreme Court after the ruling. President Trump
warned the U.S. dollar is crashing and will no longer be the world standard which will be our
greatest defeat in 200 years. Saudi Arabia has ended the petrodollar which had cemented the U.S.
dollar as the world's reserve currency. Russia shocked the international markets and replaced
the U.S. dollar with the Chinese yuan for all currency trade. BRICS is attracting countries
moving away from the U.S. dollar. Gold is the security in times of uncertainty. Gold remains
a core asset to hold ahead of the U.S. election. Isn't it time to protect your retirement with

increases Ukrainian President Zelensky has shifted the course of the Russian-Ukraine war.
In a post on True Social on July 19th President Trump disclosed that he had a friendly conversation
with Ukraine President Zelensky earlier in the day and he expressed a vision of working together to
create a peaceful world. President Trump wrote President Zelensky of Ukraine and I had a very
good phone call earlier today he congratulated me on a very successful Republican National
Convention and becoming the Republican nominee for President of the United States. President
Trump also wrote I appreciate President Zelensky for reaching out because I as your next President
of the United States will bring peace to the world and end the war that has cost so many lives and
devastated countless innocent families. Both sides will be able to come together and negotiate
a deal that ends the violence and paves a path forward to prosperity. Meanwhile Zelensky also
said on X that he congratulated President Trump on his nomination and he condemned the shocking
assassination attempt in Pennsylvania. Zelensky wrote I noted the vital bipartisan and bicameral
American support for protecting our nation's freedom and independence. He added that Ukraine
was grateful for the support of the United States. He wrote we agree with President Trump to discuss
at a personal meeting what steps can make peace fair and truly lasting. Zelensky in an unusually
restrained tone in his address to the nation last week hinted at a willingness to negotiate with
Russia. It was the first time in more than two years. Zelensky also suggested that Moscow send
a delegation to the next Ukraine peace summit which he hopes to hold in November. Ukraine
currently faces two very significant challenges. One is that the war on the front lines of the
Russian-Ukraine military standoff is not in Ukraine's favor and the other is the uncertainty
of Ukraine's close allies in continuing to assist Ukraine. While the progress made by Russian forces
in Eastern Europe has slowed significantly it has not come to a complete halt. Russian forces are
still expanding their control just at a much slower pace. On the other hand how long the Western
military aid will last is unknown. Senator J.D. Vance the Republican nominee for vice president
has said that Ukraine should hold peace talks with Russia because the United States and other
allies cannot afford to provide aid to Ukraine. President Trump himself has said that he could
end the war in a day and that the U.S. cannot provide unconditional financial aid to Ukraine.
Zelensky told reporters last Monday that Ukraine is not getting enough weapons from the West to be
able to win the war so the outcome of the war will be decided outside Ukraine's borders. Russian
President Vladimir Putin has said several times recently that he is willing to hold talks with
Ukraine on ending the war although the terms he has proposed for negotiations have been unanimously
rejected by Ukraine and its Western allies. John Hurst a former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine told
CNN that Zelensky's softening of his stance on whether to hold talks with Russia may be related
to recent events in U.S. politics. Hurst suggested that Zelensky may be attempting to preemptively
signal to the future Trump administration that he is in fact willing to open negotiations with Russia
as long as the deal on the table is in line with the principles of fairness and equity.
On Sunday Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the U.S. presidential race. Biden's statement says
it has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president and while it has been my
intention to seek re-election I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for
me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my
term. President Biden intended to continue his presidential challenge but at 1 45 p.m on Sunday
he suddenly told top staffers that he had decided to drop out of the race. Biden's decision caught
many White House staffers off guard with several staffers expressing shock at the news. Just hours
earlier the Biden campaign was denying reports that Biden was considering dropping out of the
race. The Democratic National Convention the DNC is scheduled for August 19th to the 22nd in Chicago.
It was supposed to formally confirm Biden as the Democratic nominee for president. President Biden's
decision clearly creates a political vacuum and more uncertainty for both the Democratic party
and the November election. The Democrats will have to make unprecedented changes in a short period of
time to deal with this situation. So what will happen next? First can Biden transfer his electoral
votes to Kamala Harris? After announcing his decision to withdraw from the race Biden endorsed
Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him as the Democratic presidential candidate. Earlier this year
Biden won Democratic primaries and caucuses in virtually every state and he only lost the U.S.
enclave of Samoa where a total of at least 3,896 voters pledged their support for him as the 2024
Democratic nominee for president. Currently party rules do not allow Biden to transfer his electoral
votes to another candidate. However politically Biden may help her get some electoral votes.
Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were the first couple
to issue a statement endorsing Harris for president but former President Barack Obama in a rare move
did not state his support for Harris. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries praised Biden's
decision to drop out of the race in a statement on Sunday but it's worth noting that he didn't
endorse Harris to replace him either. He simply said that Democrats will continue to choose a
presidential nominee in the coming week. Few of the legislators who called on Biden to drop out of
the race mentioned Harris as a replacement in their statements. Some expressed support for an
open nominating process that would allow the party to endorse new candidates. Representative Lloyd
Doggett the first Democrat to call for Biden's withdrawal said the Democratic party should now
be open to anyone stepping forward to run for president. The next complicated question is can
Biden's campaign funds be used for Kamala Harris? Biden's campaign recently reported 91 million
dollars in cash on hand. Combined with the Democratic campaign committee funds Biden had
more than 240 million dollars at his disposal. Campaign finance experts generally agree that
Harris has control over all this money because the Democratic campaign was set up in her and
Biden's name. But this view has also been challenged. The FEC the Federal Election Commission chairman
Sean Cooksey has announced that all donations made to Joe Biden for the November election
shall either be returned or refunded or they will be re-designated as appropriate following his
departure from the presidential race. He cited the code of federal regulations in a statement posted
on X on Sunday afternoon. He wrote if the candidate is not a candidate in the general election all
contributions made for the general election shall be either returned or refunded to the contributors
or re-designated or re-attributed as appropriate. Election lawyer Charlie Spies also believes that
Biden will not be able to legally transfer his chest of 100 million dollars to Harris
since Biden had not yet formally been nominated by the Democratic party. He wrote in the
Wall Street Journal last week before the nomination officially goes to Mr. Biden his campaign is
limited to donating two thousand dollars to the Democratic nominee whether that new standard
bearer is Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer or Ms. Harris. If someone other than Harris is nominated
at the DNC convention then there are even more problems. A party account may still benefit the
new nominee but a Biden-Harris account would have many limitations. Joe Manchin the West Virginia
Senator is considering re-registering as a Democrat in order to seek the Democratic presidential
nomination. This is according to the Hill. Hours before President Biden's announcement
Manchin became the fifth senator to call on Biden to drop out of the presidential race.
Manchin told CNN's Jake Tapper on State of the Union, I came to the decision with a heavy heart
that I think it's time to pass the torch to a new generation. Manchin considered a primary campaign
against President Biden but ultimately decided against it. He also has no plans to run for the
next full term in the Senate. In May Manchin changed his party registration to independent
in order to keep his political options open in the future. When asked on CNN if he is considering
running as VP with Harris Manchin said no I'm not. He replied it's a new generation you don't
want a 76 year old vice president right now. When asked if the nation wants a 76 year old president
Manchin answered well if he feels like he's 50 maybe. Manchin advocated an open process to choose
a successor in the coming weeks. He said that the Democratic party has a lot of talent a lot of good
people. His top choices include Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
Several Republican lawmakers have publicly called for Biden's resignation as the current president.
Speaker Johnson said in a statement on Sunday afternoon if Joe Biden is not fit to run for
president he is not fit to serve as president. He must resign the office immediately. Johnson also
criticized Harris for being no better than Biden. He suggested that she is just as responsible for
the policy failures of the Biden administration. Johnson also criticized the Democratic party
for not respecting the voter's choice. Johnson said having invalidated the votes of more than
14 million Americans who selected Joe Biden to be the Democratic nominee for president
the self-proclaimed party of democracy has proven exactly the opposite. But the speaker also shouted
down his adversaries around the globe. He emphasized that no matter how chaotic things
get in the White House right now the United States Congress the United States military
and the American people are fully prepared and committed to defending our interests at home and
abroad. Representative Elise Stefanik also tweeted if Joe Biden can't run for re-election he is unable
and unfit to serve as president of the United States he must immediately resign. In a statement
Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell similarly accused Democrats of trying to subvert the will
of the American people as expressed in the national primary. McConnell however did not call on Biden
to resign the presidency. And that's a wrap for this episode. Thank you so much for your support
