Right here, right on the roof!
This is what we know about Thomas Matthew Crooks,
the 20-year-old suspected to have tried to assassinate
former President Donald Trump.
Greg Smith attended the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania
and saw a man bear-crawling up the roof with a rifle.
The witness alerted officers
and the police were running around, down
and around the bottom of the building.
Crooks reached the peak of the building,
then shots rang out.
A Secret Service sniper shot and killed Crooks,
but not before Crooks fired several shots,
killing one man and injuring two others at the rally.
Crooks lived with his parents in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania,
an hour south of the rally.
He was not on law enforcement's radar
and the FBI still has no motive.
The family is cooperating with law enforcement.
Our investigators are working tirelessly
to attempt to identify what that motive was.
Usually, the neighbourhood is a peaceful place to live,
says Bruce Still, a neighbour of the Crooks.
The family, quote,
keeps to themselves, he told The Epoch Times.
Crooks used an AR-style rifle,
legally purchased and licensed by his father,
and was wearing a Demolition Ranch T-shirt,
the name of a popular gun-related YouTube channel.
The host of the channel wrote on social media
that he was, quote,
just in disbelief.
We were shocked and confused to find this out.
This channel was never meant to incite violence or hate.
It never has, it isn't,
and it never will be a channel that does that.
Crooks worked as a dietary aid
and he helped prepare food for patients
at a rehabilitation centre.
The centre issued a statement
saying they were shocked and saddened.
The employer had done a background check
and said it was clean.
Bethel Park High School.
This is where Crooks graduated just two years ago.
Schoolmates say he was the quiet kid
who had been bullied.
Jason Kohler, who attended the same school as Crooks,
told reporters,
he was bullied almost every day.
He was just an outcast.
Crooks did not appear to be active on social media.
He was a registered Republican
but donated $15 to ActBlue,
a progressive action committee for Democrats,
on inauguration day in 2021.
This year's presidential election
would have been the first he was old enough to vote in.
