(Laliga 2023/2024): Highlights RAYO VALLECANO - ATHLETIC CLUB

And it's in goal for the home side, his first start of the season. And indeed there is also a La Liga debut for Athletic Club midfielder Mikel Jaraguizar. Holding their shape as that ball is played to De Frutos, it's into the centre! And it's just wide of the mark from Radamel Falcao. Really good run, arriving late. Now an opportunity for Jorge De Frutos to make it 1-0. And he sends it across the face of goal, wide of the far post, with a second chance for Rayo Vallecano in the space. Here is the dipper on that occasion. Not really too much for Unai Simon to worry about. Or a trophy would be his if he does stay 0-0 here. It's a good save, low down to his left. See here, Rayo Vallecano trying to break forward. A real chance, and Unai Simon clips it away. Hand over, but a really good stop. It was Oskar Trejo trying his luck, good run. 80 years of age, the former Athletic keeper, still very much part of the club. Wide to Williams. Now Bettinger, maybe will go for goal himself. Pulls it back! And there is the opening goal, and it's Nico Williams with it. It was a very well-worked goal, and it's 1-0 to Athletic Club. 66 and a half. There's an attempt to the far post, and it's knocked down. And it's kept in, Nico Williams. The drive, and it's high and wide from Unai Gomez in the end. Thumbs up from him. It's allowed to run. It's not a bad ball in. Issi Palace on. Goes for goal, and it's not too far away. Alvaro Garcia once again causing problems down this left-hand side. There he is. Issi trying to find some space for a shot himself. He lays it out wide to Chavarria. Ball into the centre, and it's headed off target. There was a shout from Alvaro Garcia, who gives the thumbs up. I think Issi's saying he perhaps was... Back here, Rayo Vallecano. Chavarria, this time, will lift it in. It's not a bad ball at all, but the header from Alvaro Garcia didn't have enough on it. It was a comfortable save in the end for the visitors' keeper. Both Rayo and Athletic. Smiles all round. Rayo fans would have liked to have bowed out of the campaign, of course, with a triumph. But in the end, Unai Simone gives the thumbs up.
