Hi guys welcome back to my channel and welcome to another video guys I know I
know I haven't sat down to do a video in such a long time that I've almost
forgotten what it's like to sit down and actually film a proper sit down video
for you guys. My apologies I literally had to put the family reunion series on
hold because you guys will let me rest in the DMS, you will not let me rest in
the comments about this video and I had plans of putting out this video after
the family reunion series is over but you guys have been in my DMS, you have
been in the comments asking Alma where is that how to plan a trip to Ghana
video? When is that video going up? So here I am doing this video for you guys.
In this video I'm going to be letting you into everything I did, how I planned my trip
to Ghana, how much I spent, how much the trip cost me, blah blah blah, everything
you need to know, all the frequently asked questions about that trip, I will
be answering in this video. Now if this is something that you definitely want
to see, then keep on watching.
Okay so first things first, I planned my trip to
Ghana in the space of two weeks, like in fact a week and some days because I feel
like myself and my travel partner Jennifer, we just discussed about that
trip like once or twice and the next time we discussed about that trip it was
like book flights, book apartments, let's go. It wasn't like planning and talking
about a vacation for like 1 million years before it finally happened, no, it was a
bam bam bam let's go kind of vacation, alright? Which I think is very important
if you really want to travel, I feel like when you are spawning over planning, over
talking about it, over, it's just too much, it's just travel, it's just a trip, there's
no scenario about it, okay? Now I traveled to Ghana, or rather I planned my trip to
Ghana with less than a thousand dollars and I will let you guys into the tea on
how I was able to do that. Fun fact, fun fact, I did not plan my trip using any
agents, yes? For those who have been asking me the DMs, give me your agent's
contact, give me your agent's number, there is no agent. The agent is me. Agent Alma.
It is me that planned the trip by myself, alright? You guys know how expensive
traveling is, like going to any country right now, no matter how close that
country is to you, has become so expensive, so it was very very important
for me to find a way to plan this trip without spending too much money, alright?
Let's go into the video proper, okay? Okay, number one, obviously the first thing you
need to travel to Ghana from Nigeria is a passport, obviously. In fact, going to
any country in this world, before you leave this country, you must have an
international passport, and being a Nigerian passport holder, you don't need
a visa to go to Ghana, yay, because you and I know that we don't like visa
process and visa wahala, so going to Ghana from Nigeria is super easy for you
because you do not need a visa to go to Ghana. As it is with traveling in recent
times, you would definitely need to go with your full vaccination COVID card,
your COVID vaccination card, you must have been vaccinated fully, obviously,
before you can leave the country to go anywhere, so make sure that you have
taken your complete doses for your COVID vaccine, very very important, especially
if travel is on your bucket list, trust me, just go and take that vaccine and rest,
okay? It will make traveling a lot easier for you. Next document you would need to
travel to Ghana from Nigeria, and I have touched on this before in my travel prep
video, is you would need a yellow fever card, otherwise known as a yellow card, I
didn't even know this until like days to our trip, okay? It's very important, I
think that is an important document for you to have if you're going to any other
African country, I know that to go to South Africa, you need that card, to go to
other parts of Africa, you need that card, so it's very easy to get, just go to any
Ministry of Health in your location, and get it done there, it didn't cost us too
much, about 2,600 Naira is what it cost us to take that vaccine, and it is valid
for 10 years, so you'll have that card for 10 whole years, you can travel
anywhere within Africa or any country that demands that you have that card
within the next 10 years, until you have to take another vaccine again, so yes,
your passport, your Covid card, and your yellow card, those three things are what
you'll be needing to go to Ghana from Nigeria, next thing obviously, you'd have
to book a flight, now to the best of my knowledge, there are two airlines that go
to Accra from Nigeria, and those are Our Air and Airpeace, Our Air is Africa World
Airlines, something like that, and then of course you guys know Airpeace, the only
airline that flies to Accra from Abuja, where I live, is Our Air, and Airpeace
flies only from Lagos, I used Airpeace, and I'll tell you why, by the time we checked
the return ticket to Ghana from Abuja, and return tickets to Ghana from Lagos,
including a round trip from Abuja to Lagos, it was still a lot cheaper than
flying from Abuja, flying on Our Airlines from Abuja would have cost us almost
400,000 Naira, but traveling through Lagos using Airpeace, even with the
return flight from Abuja to Lagos, round trip to Lagos, to and through Lagos, 50k
going, 50k coming back, and then Lagos to Accra was about 89,000 Naira, and Accra back to
Lagos was about 95,000 Naira, all in all, we didn't even spend up to 300,000 Naira,
the round figure that we paid per person was about 280 something thousand
Naira to go to Ghana, compared to if I was flying from Abuja, I would have still
had to add a whole hundred thousand Naira on top of that, so that was another
way that we cut costs. All we had to do was to book our flights in a way that we
would not miss our connecting flights, and we were good to go. The flight on
Airpeace was okay, I mean Accra to Lagos, Lagos-Accra is not a far distance, it's less
than one hour, and the flight was okay in my opinion, it was okay. It is an
international flight, so definitely you will be leaving from an international
terminal, we had to land in Lagos in the morning, and then take a boat to an
international terminal to check in for our flight to Accra, and back, the same
thing right? So yeah, a bit of a hassle, just a little tiny itty bitty bit of a
hassle, but for more than a hundred thousand Naira to be saved, I was willing and
ready and happy that I did that. The next thing, apartments, Airbnb, hotel. You guys,
my apartment, I cannot count the number of questions I've gotten about my
apartment, where I stayed, and if you watched the Ghana vlogs, I'm sure you'll
have that burning question, where is this apartment? What is the name of this
apartment? Now, let me tell you guys something, I told you guys before, I
booked my trip myself, I planned this trip myself, in fact, Jennifer if you are
watching, Jennifer had little or nothing to contribute to the planning of this
trip, I literally planned the whole thing myself. I went on Booking.com guys,
Booking.com is such a lifesaver, and when I searched for apartments in Accra, the
apartment that we finally went with, was one of the very top ones that was
recommended to us by Booking.com, and it's called Accra Luxury Apartments at
the Lenox. I will leave the name on the screen in case you are wondering, and I
would also leave the link in my description box to check it out. We loved
our apartment so much guys, I feel like my apartment was one of my, if not my
major highlights of staying in Accra. The apartment is not too far from the
airport, and we went with a studio apartment, initially we wanted a
one-bedroom apartment, you know with a kitchen, a living space, but to be honest,
we were just two, we didn't really need that, so we went with a studio apartment that had a
kitchenette still, a nice kitchenette, you guys would have seen that in the vlogs, a
nice bed, sweet room, like that place is so modern, it's very new, they literally
opened in October of last year or so, so it's fairly new, and our hosts, oh my god
our hosts, Solomon was amazing, he was so hands-on, he was at our every beck and
call, and always ready to help us out with anything that we needed, it was a
pleasant stay in that place, and if I go back to Accra, I would definitely,
definitely stay there, it has this amazing rooftop pool, it has an amazing
cafe downstairs, like that place is so, so beautiful, it was close, it was literally
like 10 minutes away from the airport, like see guys, I can rave and go on and
on about that apartment, it was amazing, and I was super, super happy that it
didn't go with a regular Airbnb, because to be honest, our other option was just
like a normal Airbnb, that didn't have that many facilities, but I'm super happy
that we went with this option instead, trust me, if you are going on a holiday,
do it and do it properly, that is me. Now for the apartment that we stayed in, the
studio apartment, the round figure, by the time you know, I got one or two discounts
and blah, blah, blah, it cost us about $692, do the calculation in Naira so you
would know, but because we were two, we split it, guys, travel with somebody, have
a travel partner if you can, or travel partners, that way, trust me, you can
travel as much as you can, if you have a partner, because why? Your costs are split,
the only thing you'll be paying for in full, most likely will be your flight
ticket, or every other thing for the most part will be, you know, split into two or
three or four as the case may be, and in this case, I ended up paying personally
roughly about three hundred and forty something dollars to stay for six nights
in my apartment, right? I paid half of that, and Jennifer paid half of that, so
check that, like I mean for that kind of apartment, that's amazing. Alright, so
that's that about apartments, flights, and all of that. In dollars, my flights cost
me $363, my apartments cost me $346 for six nights, okay? That's how much
already, I'll leave it on the screen. Now, to be honest, going to Ghana, you don't
need to hold a lot of money, I feel like for me, Ghana was a bit more affordable,
for me, it was a bit more affordable, I know that, you know, affordability is
relative, but for me, Ghana was not as expensive as I thought it was going to
be, you can go, definitely, you have to hold cash if you're going, it's advisable
that you go with dollars, obviously, change some money at the airports, change
to Ghana CDs, so they can have money to move around. For transports, we're moving
around mostly with boats, yes, there's boats in Ghana, and to be honest, I feel
like boats was a lot cheaper than it is here in Nigeria, so for most of our
running around, we're using boats. For meals, we're not eating like three square
meals, maybe we'll be eating like twice a day, breakfast and late lunch, or
breakfast and dinner, maybe like snacking in between. I don't think there was any
day we had breakfast, lunch, dinner. No. Most times, it would be breakfast or
brunch, and then dinner, or brunch and then lunch, you know, it was always like
two times a day. So all of those things, transportation, you know, eating out,
whether you're gonna be eating at your apartment, there at the cafe, or you know,
trying out restaurants and stuff, visiting the mall and buying a few
things, going to the market, buying a few things, going to the art center to buy
souvenirs and kente, and all of that, going to some tourist attractions like
Black Star Square, it's completely free, you don't have to pay for that.
Labadi Beach, I think we paid about 25 cedis or so per person to go in there,
and when we went in there, we had mostly like local beach snacks, bananas, local
beach ice cream, you know, drinks, like we didn't have like proper food at the beach.
And then, to be honest, the rest of our tours and things to do, we're visiting
restaurants, you know, restaurants that we had been buying, restaurants that people
have actually told us to visit, you know, the beach club, most of these places you
don't have to pay to enter, you'll pay if you want to order a drink or have a meal
and all of that. Guys, I would leave where to go, things to do, where I went to in
Ghana in the box, description box below, so you can check it out, but to be honest,
I feel like if I were to do a round figure of how much I spent restaurants
hopping, going to the beach, shopping, doing that, that, that, that, like I said
before, this trip was not basically a shopping trip for me, it was more of a
tourist trip, shopping for me was just for my immediate family, just one or two
things here and there, it wasn't a flamboyant luxury shopping trip, so I feel
like if I do a rough calculation of how much I spent, based on how much I took to
Ghana in cash, roughly about $300 would cover all of that, transport, moving
around, eating, shopping, $300, and if you spend judiciously, trust me, you'll come
back with change, okay? I think I even had roughly about almost $100 left, and I
spent that as duty-free at the airport to pick up a few things, coming back to
Nigeria, and yeah, that was it guys, basically like that was it. If I'm very
correct, I didn't spend up to $1,000 traveling to Accra for six whole days
and six whole nights, okay? We didn't need a tour guide, we never used a tour guide
like throughout this trip, everywhere that we went to in Ghana, I already
pre-planned and pre-scheduled them in my itinerary, Monday we are going here and
here, Tuesday we're going here and here, just so that you don't wake up in the
morning and you're just like, oh my god, where am I going today? I already knew
where and where I wanted us to go while we're in Ghana, so it was easier to get
up and just move, there was no tour guide, there was no nothing, we just went to
Ghana by ourselves and had a good time by ourselves, okay? In case you're
wondering, we didn't buy SIM cards in Ghana, I just felt like there was no need,
we had Wi-Fi in our apartment and we had a portable Wi-Fi that we would take out
with us in case we needed to make like WhatsApp calls and all of that, that was
how we survived for six nights without having an actual SIM card in Ghana, but
if you don't have a portable Wi-Fi that you can use there, definitely you might
have to get a SIM card for us, we actually didn't need to do that. Like I
said before, expenses were mostly done in cash, I swiped my dollar card a few times
once or twice, but trust me, nothing crazy, nothing out of this world, if you
have a dollar card, yes, it's advisable that you travel with it, because you
don't know what you're gonna get into, so yes, I did swipe my card once or twice,
but for the most part, I spent in cash. And yeah guys, that is everything about
my Ghana trip, how much I spent, how much the trip cost me, things you need to know,
things you need to have and all that, hope you guys enjoyed watching this
video, I hope that now I can rest from this trip, for you people, okay? But just
to let you know, that traveling to Ghana is no big deal, there's no scenario about
it, just get on the airline websites, book your flights, carry your passport,
carry your yellow card and your COVID card, carry money, book an apartment on
Booking.com and you are good to go. Give this video a thumbs up if you enjoyed
watching, don't forget to subscribe to my channel and guess in the comment
section below, where I'll be traveling to, because traveling is still gonna happen
this year, by the grace of God, so let me know in the comments where you think I'm
going to next and I'll see you guys in my next video, bye!
