Watercolor Technique Drawing Stick, Painting A Magical Winter Card, Real Time Painting Tutorial.
Apply some color
Take a pointed object like a knitting needle, a stick or a handle of a brush.
Draw some lines on steel wet paper.
With this technique you can create textures like bark or lines like twigs and grasses.
The best result I achieve with a small knife.
Apply some color.
Draw the lines very gently.
Don't use too much pressure, otherwise the sharp point can damage the paper.
We begin with a simple drawing.
The best way to learn is to practice, to experiment.
You may use the other side of used paper that you don't need anymore,
when you'd like to try something out for the first time.
Wet the paper on two sides.
First on the back side, then on the front side.
Let the moon circle dry.
This is very important to wet your paper on two sides.
If you wet the piece of paper on just one side,
it will curl and you will not be able to paint and relax.
Of course you can use a tape to adjust the paper on a painting board,
but what if you don't want a wide frame around your painting?
Or if you want to paint for a long time on wet paper.
Wetting the paper on two sides gives you also much more time to paint using wet-on-wet technique.
Take some yellow color.
For this particular painting I'm working with cold colors,
that are nice for night landscapes.
In the description of this video you will find a link to used colors and color mixes.
Be free to use other colors if you'd like.
Mix some blue-green and stretch the color.
Add a darker shade with more dark blue.
Clean your brush and dab it on a paper tissue.
We do this to prevent the water drop from the brush on the wet paper.
With a dry brush you can diffuse two colors in each other.
Add some yellow on the ground.
Then add some blue-green.
Mix green with some dark blue or indigo and define the part of the tree and the ground.
Like you did it with the sky.
Clean your brush and dab it on a paper tissue.
And with a dry brush diffuse the colors.
Don't be scared to add more yellow or green or blue.
Just don't use a very wet brush to take the colors.
Dab it regularly on a tissue.
Take some dark color and touch the paper in a couple of places.
These will be fuzzy trees far away.
I add a little bit more yellow on the ground for the texture.
Now take a small knife or another pointed object like a knitting needle.
Draw the twigs.
For this technique you need enough color on the paper and the paper must be wet.
If the paper is dry or almost white you will not see the lines.
Now add some darker color for the tree, the ground and between the twigs.
Let your paper dry or use a hair dryer on the two sides of the paper.
First on the front side then when dry on the back side.
Take some blue-green.
We are going to paint the spruces.
By holding the brush far from the point you can create loose strokes.
Clean your brush, dab it with a tissue and strain the color.
With the same dark blue-green paint a path on the ground.
After cleaning the brush dab it with a tissue and smooth the sharp edges.
Paint the tree and a couple of branches.
Now we will use dry-on-dry technique to add leaf-like silhouette between the twigs.
Mix some dark blue and blue-green.
Clean your brush, dab it with a tissue so that your brush is almost dry.
Take the color from the palette.
Hold the brush almost horizontally and lightly touch the paper.
The strokes will be rough. It gives a nice loose effect.
Take more dark color for the bark.
For this card I've used a transparent glittering watercolor paint.
It's perfectly up to you if you'd like to try this out or not.
Apply it on a dry paper.
Suppose you've made a mistake but your paper is already dry.How to correct it?
Just take a wet sponge.
I use here a natural one.
And rub on the place you'd like to correct.
You can do it best on a thick watercolor paper.
Like 300 gram per square meter or more.
On a still wet place add some color.
Thank you for watching.
I look forward to see your works.
