Welcome back to Bucharest you guys. Today we're going to be exploring one of the largest markets
here in Bucharest, Obor Market. In case you guys missed our last video we spent Sammy's birthday
here in Bucharest celebrating, met so many awesome people but one in particular his name's Andre and
he offered to show us around today. Yeah so we always love getting a local's perspective and
we were super thrilled that he offered to take us around. She's my wife. Hi how are you?
I'm excited. What was your name? Stephanie. We'll start with the Obor Market.
So we've just arrived here to Obor Market. It's about 15 minutes outside of Bucharest Old Town.
You can get here by public transportation or we took an Uber. It was like $3.50 to get here
but this market is the oldest and largest market here in Bucharest and they sell all kinds of
things like fruits and vegetables but we came here specifically to try a local traditional
Romanian dish. So let's go try it.
What a beautiful market this is. The smells, the sounds, so much fresh fruit, fresh flowers.
They have like an art section where they have traditional bowls and spoons. I'm getting hungry
from all the fresh smells though.
England? Thank you. England, no, America. America, oh. And you from Bucharest? Yes, yes. Okay, great. Thank you.
Good. Very, very delicious. Super juicy. Look at that color. Look how pretty they are.
We have this joke, you have to sell one kidney to buy some cherries. Thanks for
treating us to some cherries. They're so good. Unfortunately the meat place was closed so Tommy
and I are going to come back on our own another day. So Tommy from the future here, we're back
in the market. It is Saturday today so it is much more crowded. I love the atmosphere. We're hungry.
We're back to try the famous mič. This place is super popular so I'm sure it's going to be
amazing. At least they have some awesome music to listen to while we wait.
I'm tired. Too much party last night. Exactly. Exactly. We finally made it through the line. We
These little sausages are made from ground meat and spices, usually lamb or beef. They're served
with a ton of mustard, some bread, and of course a cold beer. Finally time to take a bite.
Wow, those are delicious. They're plump, juicy, so delicious. You can see why they're so popular
here in Romania. Mič also comes with mustard which is one of, I'm not really a sauce person,
but mustard is one of my favorite condiments so I'm very excited about this.
They're so juicy. They're almost like sweet with like a caramelized outside.
Definitely worth the wait.
What an amazing combination this is.
A little sausage bite, some bread, wash it down with a cold beer. It doesn't get much better.
The atmosphere here is so great. Such friendly people, nice music. Just has a great vibe.
I'm still a little hungry. We saw some soft serve ice cream right over here so I think
we're gonna go try some of that. Perfect. Cheers. Now it's time to get back to the video
and finish our food tour with Stephanie and Andre. Let's go. I think the next place that
Andre is taking us to is a place called Smith so we're gonna go there now.
This is not a traditional Romanian restaurant by any means because we ordered Korean chicken and
Arabic ribs. The thing about Bucharest is there is such a great food culture here and there are so
many nice, fun, unique restaurants to go out and try. So while we will be eating a ton of
traditional Romanian food while we're here, it's really nice to just come hang out with friends
and just eat really good food. So cheers you guys. Cheers. I hope it will be great for you too.
It better live up to the hype now. I love fried chicken and we love ribs and I am so hungry so
I can literally eat anything right now. Let's go. This is what I call great food. Look at this,
look at this. Oh it's beautiful man. Okay. You going for it? I'm going for it. This is the Korean
chicken. Looks like it has sesame seeds, spice. It was so good. It was worth the wait. Don't cry.
Spicy, smoky. Oh that crunch. Very, very delicious and it comes with a side of coleslaw
and some potatoes. Very delicious. Let's try. Oh it's so tender, yeah.
Oh yeah, my mouth's watering. I think I have a new favorite dish here.
The girl who loves the vegetables seems to be really loving that meat.
Out of the two dishes, I'm definitely gonna go with Arabic coffee rubbed ribs. They're
absolutely amazing, melt in your mouth, fall off the bone. So surprising over spicy chicken. I know.
You always choose spicy chicken. I'm usually like a spicy chicken person or chicken all the way over any
other kind of meat, but those are really, really good. Okay, your favorite. Which one? The ribs. The ribs?
Obviously, yes. They're so good. For me too. The ribs are amazing. Okay, that's four for four. Everybody
prefers the ribs. Everybody loves the ribs. We don't say that this is not good. The ribs are better. It's much
better than good. That is fantastic. What a great first stop. Thank you. This is just the first stop.
I don't think that's gonna be beaten on this night out. Those ribs just melt in your mouth.
Don't miss it when you get to here. All right, time to go to the next spot.
So where are we at now? We are at Bukadarashul. In translation, it's little chef. It's a really
underrated place, but the food is really amazing. You'll see. I hope you'll like it. For me, it was
really good. Maybe let's have a beer. Oh, or two. Who knows? Not for you, though. You're drunk.
That's for me. You're out. This time. Bokur means enjoy or enjoy. Okay, enjoy. And that is the beer we just got.
Enjoy. Enjoy. Salud. It's the name of the man who found Bucharest. The new friend.
It's good. So what's your favorite Romanian beer? Do you guys have a favorite? Hey,
Romanians have good beers, but we are not famous for beers. Yeah. We are more famous for wines.
Here you can find a lot of good wines. Well, I couldn't believe all the microbreweries, though.
It's like a new trend here in Romania to have this artisan beer. All the beers here, even like
the IPAs, which are my favorite. These are your favorites. Amazing. They were so good. So the
microbreweries here in Bucharest are amazing. We've ordered a traditional Romanian dish. It is called
tocitora. It's a variety of pork cuts and it's served in like a tomato-based sauce. So that's
kind of like a spin on the dish. The traditional part is that it's always served with polenta with
an egg on top. Polenta is a very traditional here in Romania. I'm really excited to dig in. I don't
think we've ever tried this particular dish before. So it's a perfectly cooked pork and it
has some nice herbs on top. I think it might be dill. I see some like bay leaves. Really great
seasoning. I'm going to put polenta, sauce, cheese, pork. Okay, now I have the perfect bite.
Wow. The cheese. What an underrated ingredient. It gives it that salty, sour, little freshness
that it needs because it's kind of a heavy dish, like cozy and hearty, but that cheese is just so
bright and flavorful. Very good. This means enjoy your lunch. Okay, that's nice. You pay $10 for
this and we eat like four of us. Yeah, okay, we share the meal, but it's a good value. Oh, wow.
Well, I did a horrible job of cutting that, but this is sort of a traditional
Romanian dessert. I'm not sure what the Romanian name for it is, but a yogurt pie.
Looks like it's like phyllo dough, either like some kind of cheese or yogurt and like powdered
sugar on top. Not my typical dessert, but let's give it a go. Okay. Thankfully, it's a lot sweeter
than it looks. I think it's better than my auntie's doing. Oh, your poor aunt.
No, she's doing another version. It's sweet and fresh at the same time.
The dessert expert likes it? It's good. It's good. It's good. That's like a six out of ten.
Maybe if the yogurt was seven. Seven, okay. Yeah, seven. I was going to go with maybe like
six and a half. Six and a half? If it was chocolate, it'd be gone already.
That was delicious. We're going to head to our next spot.
I really think we thought we were going to go to a lot of spots, but I feel like everybody's
getting like a full stomach, so we'll see how far we make it. But we are for sure making it
to another spot, so let's go. Have a good day. Thank you very much. Have a good day. Thank you.
I always say it wrong. No, it's not. Why do they laugh at me every time I say it then?
I think they're just happy you're trying.
Oh, look at those glasses. Ice cold. Drinking Italian beer in Romania, it's like magic.
You're gonna get a lot of hate from all the Romanians in the comments. No, they know.
They know that this beer is really amazing. That beer right there? Yeah. You will taste it.
Let me see the label. This is Pira Moret. It's 100% Italian, but it's good. Okay.
We're trying the famous Italian beer. You just go ordering Italian beers in Romania.
These are our guides.
That's easy. That's good flavor too. So we're actually having Romanian beer. Okay.
Thank goodness the Americans are stepping up for them.
The non-locals. We're having the local beer. It's called...
I got a thumbs up. Two thumbs up.
Here it's always with a lot of food. You order a little of food, but
we've come to this restaurant, Toka, which is traditional Balkan food. So not traditional
Romanian, but we're still eating yummy, delicious food. Nonetheless, we ordered veal smothered in
like a mushroom and gravy sauce. We ordered fried cheese and we also have stuffed mushrooms. We also
ordered this beautiful salad with like arugula, pomegranates, oranges, grapes with like a yummy
looking drizzle. And then we also have this insanely yummy looking bread. So we're going to
dig into all of this. So the veal is not overly tender. It's definitely got like a nice char and
grill on it, but there's definitely some chew to it, but not in like a bad way. It's definitely
very hearty, but the sauce does have like a garlicky, garlicky taste to it with some fresh
herbs on top. It's just really a really great dish overall. I really want to try the stuffed
mushrooms though. So I think it's stuffed with like a yogurt and cheese and pepper and seasonings.
That's where it's at. Mushroom's a winner, huh? Wow. That is just like savory, kind of gives you that like
right here, like you salivate a little bit because it's so good and you're like, I want more of that.
Very delicious. Starting to get a full, so many amazing meals so far.
We're going to go walk this off a little bit, hopefully work up more of an appetite.
These hop hooligans is the most popular in your culture and it's popular in London too.
This one is Romanian. Japanese tea pale ale. I love the label, number one. That's what he
recommended. It's his favorite beer in the whole place. Okay, I'm excited. Let's try it.
Here's our film crew. I would make something special. Our recipe, which is sour and sweet also.
I trust the master. To make one cocktail, but we drink shots.
Make an extra strong cocktail.
You guys like it? It's really good. It is really good. Yeah. It's sweet, sour, fruity.
Whoa, it's so good. The crunchy little sugaries. Brilliant. It's amazing.
Yeah, good job. That was great. Can I lick it?
Nice job. Hey, fantastic. I think that's the best shot I've ever taken.
Let's go another one.
One more? Yeah, I think so. Yeah. Okay, let's have another. It's so good. We need another, man.
I don't know how many more I can do, but let's do one more.
Thank you guys for everything. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much, man. It's so amazing.
The party keeps going on. After a couple shots, some beers,
got to walk a little bit still, work off this food, and eat some more, hopefully.
All the drinks were so good, weren't they? I know. Really good. We thought we were going to do some
walking, but turns out we did get a dessert reservation, so now we need to take an Uber
to make sure we get the reservation. Hi, I'm Samy. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you guys.
We just arrived to Papilla. We came here to round out our evening with a dessert and
I believe another cocktail, so we're definitely getting our drink in here tonight.
Wait, it kind of has like a peanut buttery smell. Peanut butter? Yeah. Peanut butter? No.
It's hazelnut. Yep. It's hazelnut. I knew it. Wow, that's it. It's hazelnut? Yeah, definitely.
I said peanut butter. I was like, I said peanut butter. It's hazelnut, yeah. Give me a little bit
of credit. Oh, thank you. This is a surprise for you. So you heard what it is? No. Taste it. Taste
it to see if you know what it is. What is this? I truly have no idea. You'll see. It's a surprise.
He hasn't told us any of these spots before we go because every spot he's like, I need you to be
surprised, which is awesome. I love it, but I have no clue. I'm so bad at these games.
But served in a way that... I would never guess that. In my defense, I was also trying
very hard to remind myself of like a sweet flavor because, you know, it's like a dessert.
But it's not sweet. It's totally savory. So I was like, I don't know what this tastes like
because my mind and the food were not matching up at all. She said multiple times. It was like
what she's trying to say. I thought this was the dessert. We came here to eat this dessert and I
was like, okay, you know, that wasn't sweet at all, but I'll accept it for what it is. That
was the dessert. And so we're getting up to pay and he's like, guys, we're still waiting for the
dessert. I thought that's what we just had. It wasn't. But so that was just our surprise before
the dessert. That's too funny. Okay, now this looks like a dessert. This is. Have you guys had
this before? Yes. But it's still amazing.
Hey, what happened to you guys' dessert?
We almost made it. But let's see what is this. It doesn't look like chocolate.
No, it's not panda. It's a raccoon or something. It's Romanian. It's something that we call raccoon.
Wow, it's delicious. Super smooth. All right, I gotta try this dessert now.
That is fantastic. They have not stared us wrong yet today.
Such a great evening, you guys. Thank you for taking us to all the wonderful spots.
What, no drinks on the steps or what? Are you down? Are you down? We're down, but are you guys?
No, we are, but it's fine. It's fine, right? Yeah. Let's have a little more time.
One last stop before we say goodbye to our new friends. We're gonna get a beer at the
local mart here and go hang out by the steps and just spend some more quality time together.
What an awesome night though. Drinking a beer at the room. It's a thing. This is the thing,
a thing to do here. Apparently, look at all the people hanging out. What a cool building though.
Cheers to this night. Hey, you guys, thank you for everything. We really appreciate it.
Showed us such an awesome time. Such amazing people. It was our pleasure.
We really thank you guys. You guys were the best. You guys were the best hosts.
Seriously. Oh, you're awesome, man. Bring it in, baby. Bring it in, baby. Thank you, man.
Seriously. I really hope that... So nice meeting both of you guys. Oh, we'll meet again. We'll
meet again, but I hope it will be soon. Yeah. We hope you guys enjoyed this video. I know we
really enjoyed eating our way through Bucharest with locals. I know it wasn't the traditional
Romanian food tour that we had planned, but it went in a much, much better direction. Bucharest
has so many different types of cuisines and so much food on offer. It has been a long night,
so we are ending the video here, and we'll see you guys in the next one.
