The solo overlanding expedition across Africa continues and is getting insane! I'm entering the fourth African country of the solo overland expedition, and I officially leave the Southern region of the continent. Welcome to Tanzania and to the East Africa region! So exciting. But I will only stay for a 7-day visa transit, in order to reach Rwanda before the rainy season. I will obviously go back to Tanzania later during the adventure. My Toyota Hilux Rafiki is happy to receive a new flag sticker and it's so ready to drive the tough roads of West Tanzania. It's going to be off-road, wild, 4x4 surprises, and full of emotions and challenges! But.......did I manage to cross the border? Watch and enjoy this episode to find out!
After three intense but unforgettable months overlanding across beautiful Zambia I'm seriously
approaching a new country. My last stops have been Pika and Pulungu by the famous Lake Tanganyika.
Today I'm going to cross the border with Tanzania and to enter the region of East Africa.
So we couldn't fix it and I have to drive with that and to leave you know the cover half opened.
As already mentioned in the last episode I'm going to cross the border with a French-Moroccan
but while these two will be heading to the coast I need to rush it to Rwanda before getting caught
by the rainy season. I thus will ask for a transit visa of seven days whereas the guys
will ask for a two-month stay. The route ahead of me is going to be tough but surely very interesting.
I'm currently driving to the border with Tanzania. I'm actually yeah an hour from the border
yeah because I was staying at the Lake Tanganyika which is like
50 minutes from the border with Tanzania and yeah I'm very I'm very excited because you know
it's a new border crossing and it's a new adventure. I won't stay very long in Tanzania
it's just a transit but you know it's always very nice to discover and exciting to discover
a new country. I'm going to cross the border with Thierry and Kakra and then after a few days
they are going to head to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and I'm going to head to Rwanda.
I'm exiting Zambia. I need to buy some water down there and this is the border crossing
and I'm thirsty. So I just bought water here all this and now I'm going back
to the border crossing
so now I'm going back to the border crossing
I just left the Frenchie just Rafiki and I and the water
thank you man bye Jumbo look behind look behind look the name read the name of my car
Tanzania and Rafiki this is your country
I am in Tanzania hey it's uh the people are so kind I say that all the time
but they're very very nice it took us like maybe almost four hours to cross the border because it's
a very small border normally people they cross the border between Zambia and Tanzania and Tunduma
and we were at Mbala and it's a very small one so like the system was not very working so
basically they couldn't print some official papers and stuff and we had to wait and then like anyway
so we are in Tanzania I say we because I'm still with Thierry and yeah Thierry and
and Kadra and now we are heading to the nearest town where we can just have a good sleep a good
night of rest and uh and yeah and after like after a few days I'm going to go on my own again
I want to go to Rwanda I've got a special permit I've got a transit permit in Tanzania of seven
days I think I'm going to stay for five days because I really want to go to Rwanda before
the rainy season I'm going to be on my own again after four days we are in Tanzania finally yes
and you know what Rafiki is a Swahili word Swahili is the official language here in Tanzania
so we are the country of Rafiki the sun is already going down and I took a different
road from the French Moroccans I actually wanted to cross savannas and small villages
the first next Tanzanian city Sumbawanga and I hope I can make it before dark and of course I
hope the same for the guys but look at this how mystical and beautiful is this fog flirting with
the light and covering the bush this is the first tarred road with no potholes I've seen in you know
it's been months don't get me wrong I love driving off-road I love like trucks and stuff
like this is my favorite right but I'm a bit like yeah I'm a bit you know I'm tired it's
been like I've been driving a lot recently I had to you know exit Zambia and stuff and
because you know like my visa and also because I want to be in Rwanda for like before the rainy
so I'm very happy anyway this is a tarred road I'm driving at night
so we were outside of this big you know door and we were lost and so those people living here
they you know told us to come here and this is their house beautiful they don't want us to sleep
in the cars we feel a bit embarrassed but you know they seem very happy to welcome us
home and stuff and this they are so kind like Tanzanian people my gosh the first day and I'm
shocked they are amazing people I'm in the bed they are my mothers hey mothers
there are my mothers and here like my friend
